Are you talking about genres of music, or individual people/bands?

Jazz and Experimental is really the only actual creative process of music making in my opinion. I have listened to it all, and the summit doesn't get any higher for me. It literally opens doors to originality that no other music genre will ever be able to penetrate without traveling through that territory.

I'm not listening to a whole lot of music at the moment. The last music I listened to would have been the last CDs I bought, which were from:

      Mr. Bungle
      Sigur Ros
      Giacomo Puccini
      Pain of Salvation
      Rush

Pretty sure that's Creedence Clearwater Revival, guitarboy.

A little of this, a little of that, for me.

Battlelore (Catchy, but mostly LotR-based. Good in small doses.)
      Blue Man Group (Amazing sound.)
      Blue October
      Darkwell
      The Decemberists
Dream Theater (Still not convinced I like them, but I'm giving them another try.)
      Edenbridge
      Epica (Still on top.)
      Hammerfall
      Lacuna Coil
      Rammstein
      Sirenia

I try and narrow down the bands that I listen to, so I can study them better

Sigur Ros(the new Pink Floyd (and bigger than ever))
      Dntel
      Fleet Foxes
      Radiohead (of course)
      Modest Mouse
      The Islands
      Flaming Lips
Return To Forever (how could you not?)

Just two days ago I found this amazing folk metal band called Elvenking! Their songs are amazing! Especially this one called "another awful hobs tale" I cannot get it out of my head right now!

this is easily my favorite genre at the moment combined with symphonic metal like Rhapsody(of fire) and Nightwish. Dragonforce and Edguy are quite high up in normal metal as well.

      Take a wild guess.

But really, the music I listen to is progressive, metal, (but none of that something-core shit) and/or instrumental.

What ever's on the radio mostly.

As for songs etc. that I love:
I LOVE Jekyll and Hyde the musical, but even though I am not bipolar, the music can make me rather manic and/or dysphoric and prompts disassociation. So I don't listen to it often unless I want to trigger those moods.

      Rock Star
      Flowers on the Wall
      Dream a Little Dream
Did you ever see a dream walking
      Hate me
      Viva la vida
      Paralyzer
      Hey there Delilah
      Fall For You
      Wild Side (Marky Mark version)
      The Way I am
      I'm Yours
      Dido
      New Soul
      Bittersweet Symphony
      How far we've come
      Jewel
      Enter Sandman
      Nothing Else Matters
      Crimson and Clover
      The Freshmen
      Phantom of the Opera
      Les Miserables
      Fiddler on the Roof
It can't rain all the Time
Chrono Cross Music CD (attributed to Blue Man Group but Wikipedia says it's Yasunori Mitsuda)
      The Rooster

... to name just a few

I am a Breakcore, Ambient, and Drum & Bass guy myself. I like to listen to the likes of Venetian Snares, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Autechre, Limewax, Current Value, Raiden, the list goes on and on. But more specifically the darker ('darkstep') kind of Drum and bass. I think that Pendulum has lost their touch and is a disgrace to the D&B scene. Don't get me wrong, I love their older stuff like Toxic Shock, but the new psuedo-rock stuff and the 2-step drum patterns are just silly. Venetian Snares, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, and Autechre are just crazy geniuses.
