Okay, I was listening to some songs, and I realized that some songs can really just BRING YOU DOWN.
So, post your most depressing song.
Mine is...
Artist: Immortal Technique
Song Title: Dance with the Devil
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I once knew a nigga whose real name was William
his primary concern, was making a million
being the illest hustler, that the world ever seen
he used to fuck movie stars and sniff coke in his dreams
a corrupted young mind, at the age of thirteen
nigga never had a father and his mom was a fiend
she put the pipe down, but for every year she was sober
her sons heart simultaneously grew colder
he started hanging out selling bags in the projects
checking the young chicks, looking for hit and run prospects
he was fascinated by material objects
but he understood money never bought respect
he built a reputation cause he could hustle and steal
but got locked once and didn't hesitate to squeal
so criminals he chilled with didn't think he was real
you see me and niggas like this have never been equal
I dont project my insecurities on other people
he fiended for props like addicts with pipes and needles
so he felt he had to prove to everyone he was evil
a feeble minded young man with infinite potential
the product of a ghetto bred capitalistic mental
coincidentally dropped out of school to sell weed
dancing with the devil, smoked until his eyes would bleed
but he was sick of selling trees and gave in to his greed
[Hook]
Everyone trying to be trife never face the consequences
you propably only did a month for minor offences
ask a nigga doing life if he had another chance
but then again there's always the wicked that knew in advance
dance forever with the devil on a cold cell block
but thats what happens when you rape, murder and sell rock
devils used to be gods, angels that fell from the top
there's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot
[Verse 2]
So Billy started robbing niggaz, anything he could do
to get his respect back, in the eyes of his crew
starting fights over little shit, up on the block
stepped up to selling mothers and brothers the crack rock
working overtime for making money for the crack spot
hit the jackpot and wanted to move up to cocaine
fulfilling the scarface fantasy stuck in his brain
tired of the block niggaz treating him the same
he wanted to be major like the cut throats and the thugs
but when he tried to step to 'em, niggaz showed him no love
they told him any motherfucking coward can sell drugs
any bitch nigga with a gun can bust slugs
any nigga with a red shirt can front like a blood
even Puffy smoked a motherfucker up in the club
but only a real thug can stab someone till they die
standing in front of them, staring straight into their eyes
Billy realized that these men were well guarded
and they wanted to test him, before business started
suggested raping a bitch to prove he was cold hearted
so now he had a choice between going back to his life
or making money with made men, up in the cife
his dreams about cars and ice, made him agree
a hardcore nigga is all he ever wanted to be
and so he met them friday night at a quarter to three
[Hook]
[Verse 3]
They drove around the projects slow while it was raining
smoking blunts, drinking and joking for entertainment
until they saw a woman on the street walking alone
three in the morning, coming back from work, on her way home
and so they quietly got out the car and followed her
walking through the projects, the darkness swallowed her
they wrapped her shirt around her head and knocked her onto the floor
"this is it kid, now you got your chance to be raw..."
so Billy yoked her up and grabbed the chick by the hair
and dragged her into a lobby that had nobody there
she struggled hard but they forced her to go up the stairs
they got to the roof and then held her down on the ground
screaming shut the fuck up and stop moving around
the shirt covered her face, but she screamed and clawed
so Billy stomped on the bitch, until he broken her jaw
the dirty bastards knew exactly what they were doing
they kicked her until they cracked her ribs and she stopped moving
blood leaking through the cloth, she cried silently
and then they all proceeded to rape her violently
Billy was meant to go first, but each of them took a turn
ripping her up, and choking her until her throat burned
her broken jaw mumbled for God but they weren't concerned
when they were done and she was lying bloody, broken and bruised
one of them niggaz pulled out a brand new .22
they told him that she was a witness of what she'd gone through
and if he killed her he was guaranteed a spot in the crew
he thought about it for a minute, she was practically dead
and so he leaned over and put the gun right to her head
(Sample from "Survival of the Fittest" by Mobb Deep)
I'm falling and I can't turn back
I'm falling and I can't turn back
[Verse 4]
Right before he pulled the trigger, and ended her life
he thought about the cocaine with the platinum and ice
and he felt strong standing along with his new brothers
cocked the gat to her head, and pulled back the shirt cover
but what he saw made him start to cringe and stutter
'cause he was staring into the eyes of his own mother
she looked back at him and cried, cause he had forsaken her
she cried more painfully, than when they were raping her
his whole world stopped, he couldn't even contemplate
his corruption had succesfully changed his fate
and he remembered how his mom used to come home late
working hard for nothing, cause now what was he worth
he turned away from the woman that had once given him birth
and crying out to the sky cause he was lonely and scared
but only the devil responded, cause God wasn't there
and right then he knew what it was to be empty and cold
and so he jumped off the roof and died with no soul
they say death take you to a better place but I doubt it
after that they killed his mother, and never spoke about it
and listen cause the story that I'm telling is true
'cause I was there when Billy Jacobs and I raped his mom too
and now the devil follows me everywhere that I go
in fact I'm sure he's standing among one of you at my shows
and every street cipher listening to little thugs flow
he could be standing right next to you, and you wouldn't know
the devil grows inside the hearts of the selfish and wicked
white, brown, yellow and black color is not restricted
you have a self destructive destiny when you're inflicted
and you'll be one of God's children that fell from the top
there's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot
so when the devil wants to dance with you, you better say never
because a dance with the devil might last you forever

Oh, and the entirety of Hood's album Outside Closer
And everything by Elliott Smith.
I went through a period of time when the sadder the music was, the better. These are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head...I could keep adding to this list indefinately. *slaps her own hand* Bad.

Opeth - Dirge For November ~ warning: contains death metal vocals
Definitely the most depressing song I have heard. And just listen to those guitar melodies when the heavy part kicks in... *melts*
The lyrics aren't the reason I find this song so depressing, but they don't hinder...
Lost, here is nowhere
Searching home still
Turning past me, all are gone
Time is now
The omen showed, took me away
Preparations are done, this can't last
The mere reflection brought disgust
No ordeal to conquer, this firm slit
It sheds upon the floor, dripping into a pool
Grant me sleep, take me under
Like the wings of a dove, folding around
I fade into this tender care
There's quite a few that gets me down, but I'd have to say the number one is--
Nine Inch Nails - And All That Could Have Been
Lyrics:
breeze still carries the sound
maybe i'll disappear
tracks will fade in the snow
you won't find me here
ice is starting to form
ending what had begun
i am locked in my head
with what i've done
i know you tried to rescue me
didn't let anyone get in
left with a trace of all that was
and all that could have been
please
take this
and run far away
far away from me
i am
tainted
the two of us
were never meant to be
all these
pieces
and promises and left behinds
if only i could see
in my
nothing
you meant everything
everything to me
gone fading everything
and all that could have been
please
take this
and run far away
far as you can see
i am
tainted
and happiness and peace of mind
were never meant for me
all these
pieces
and promises and left behinds
if only i could see
in my
nothing
you meant everything
everything to me
Here's a video with some depressing NiN songs, mine is in it.
What does it matter, a dream of love
Or a dream of lies
We're all gonna be in the same place
When we die
Your spirit don't leave knowing
Your face or your name
And the wind through your bones
Is all that remains
And we're all gonna be
We're all gonna be
Just dirt in the ground
The quill from a buzzard
The blood writes the word
I want to know am I the sky
Or a bird
'Cause hell is boiling over
And heaven is full
We're chained to the world
And we all gotta pull
And we're all gonna be
Just dirt in the ground
Now the killer was smiling
With nerves made of stone
He climbed the stairs
And the gallows groaned
And the people's hearts were pounding
They were throbbing, they were red
As he swung out ofver the crowd
I heard the hangman said
We're all gonna be
Just dirt in the ground
Now Cain slew Abel
He killed him with a stone
The sky cracked open
And the thunder groaned
Along a river of flesh
Can these dry bones live?
Ask a king or a beggar
And the answer they'll give
Is we're all gonna be
Yea yeah
We're all gonna be just
Dirt in the ground
A Desolation Song by Agalloch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN4AxskpSAE
Here I sit at the fire
Liquor's bitter flames warm my languid soul
Here I drink alone and remember
A graven life, the stain of her memory
In this cup, love's poison
For love is the poison of life
Tip the cup, feed the fire,
And forget about useless hope. . .
Lost in the desolation of love
The passions we reap and sow
Lost in the desolation of life
This path that we walk. . .
Here's to love, the sickness
The great martyr of the soul
Here's to life, the vice
The great herald of misery
In this cup, spiritus frumenti
For this is the nectar of the spirit
Quench the thirst, drown the sorrow
And forget about cold yesterdays. . .
Lost in the desolation of love
The passions we reap and sow
Lost in the desolation of life
This path that we walk. . .
Lost in the desolation of love
The sorrows we reap and sow
Lost in the desolation of life
The path that we walk. . .
Also Tonight's Music by Katatonia (and most other every song by them) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BjRmHMUWvQ
Who could call my name without regretting
who could see beyond this my darkness
and for once save their own prayers
who could mirror down just a little
of their sun
how could this go so very wrong
that I must depend on darkness
would anyone follow me further down
how could this go so very far
that I need someone to say
what is wrong
not with the world but me
who could call my name without regretting
who could promise to never destroy me
tonight my head is full of wishes
and everything I drink is full of her
Our mistake was the love we made I didn't deliberate But I never meant you wrong No I didn't mean it
If you've ever lost a loved one I pray for you, I really do If you've ever lost a loved one I pray for
you...
'Cause there s a sad and lonely comfort In the hollow of your eyes But don't you let it take you over
'Cause it will eat you up inside
I heard you're married to a house carpenter And your love will never be mine...
If you're not breathing why am I Left alone in this shit If you're not breathing Why am I left alone?
With a sad and lonely comfort Of the hollow in your eyes But don't you let it take me under 'Cause it
will eat me up inside
I'm sure you're married to your house carpenter And your love will never be mine ... All the pain and
the way it was All of the shame and the hate, because I was in love with the way it was All that I do I
do for you
All the pain and the way it was All of the shame and the hate, because I was in love with the way it was
All that I do I do for you If you're not breathing Why am I? left alone in this shit. If you're not
breathing Why am I left alone?
With a sad and lonely comfort Of the hollow in your eyes But won't let it take me over 'Cause it will
eat me up inside
I'm sure you're buried with your house carpenter And your face I'll never see no more Your face I'll
never see no more Your face Your face Your face Your face...
With a sad and lonely comfort Of the hollow in your eyes But I won't let it take me under 'Cause it will
eat me up inside
Yeah I heard your married to a house carpenter And your love will never me mine No, your love will never
be mine...
I am not sorry or empathetic whatsoever for saying that I believe the world would be much better off without people like you in it. Have a great fucking day.

aww man, there is this song i cant remember what it was, its really depressing to me because it brings back really happy memories which i know i cant go back to, they might not be depressing to other people, but ive got reason to. there are actually a couple of songs like this, if i remember any of them ill post it.
"There's a club if you'd like to go,
you could meet somebody who really loves you,
so you go, and you stand on your own,
and you leave on your own,
and you go home, and you cry,
and you want to die."
It either amuses you or sends you spiralling.

Don't post to tell us that you can't remember a song. We aren't waiting expectantly.

The way the three movements flow is strangely similar to what someone going through a breakup would feel (considering that was allegedly Beethoven's inspiration for the Moonlight Sonata). Movement 1 - sadness; "I miss you so much, it hurts to be without you!". Movement 2 - denial; "No, she still loves me...she DOES love me!" Movement 3 - rage; "I'ma KILL that ho AND the mothafucka she left me for!"
Total LDs: 10 | WILDs: 4 | DILDs: 5 | DEILDs: 2 "Take atheism, for example. Not a religion? Their pseudo-dogmatic will to convert others to their system of beliefs is eerily reminiscent of the very behavior they criticize in the religious."
Queen's "The Miracle" is sort of depressing to me, although it shouldn't be. It might be because it was written after Freddie Mercury was diagnosed with HIV and it seems like a final plea to humanity from a dying man hoping to see the world become a better place. I think the reason why it really depresses me is because we still haven't changed.
Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who has the same effect on me because, here we are just short of 40 years later and guess what, we did get fooled again, and it probably won't be the last time.

I find "Cats in the Cradle" rather depressing. I thought it had a catchy tune and everything until I actually listened to the words and found out it was about a father who didn't spend enough time with his son.
