I want song suggestions of a certain type

K, here's the deal. I'm looking for some songs. But I only want to get a certain type of song.

You know those songs that are all instrumental, and that paint a really good picture of a scene or setting, and it almost seems like the music is telling a story? Where after hearing it you go "damn that would be good in a movie?"

Ya. Those. And light-hearted ones aren't bad, but usually the slightly dark and dramatic ones tend to be better.

Does anyone have any song suggestions for me?

I just bought one song each from those bands, and they're pretty good.

      Thank you.

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence by Dream Theater - (The song is 8 parts long and totals at over 40 minutes. Yes, the song is over 40 minutes long).

Sound of a Gun by Audioslave

For What Its Worth by Buffalo Springfield (Also see the Ozzy Osbourne cover)

Move to the City by Guns N' Roses (Live Era version is best due to the extended ending)

      Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson

Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones (Also see the Ozzy Osbourne cover)

Can't Stop by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Lie Lie Lie by Serj Tankian

      Goodbye Stranger by Supertramp

      Pinball Wizard by The Who

Baba O'Reily (Teenage Wasteland) by The Who

      Black Magic Woman by Santana

      Drifting by Andy Mckee

Gates of Gnomeria by Andy Mckee

      Rylynn by Andy Mckee

Sweet Colleen by Van Morrison & The Chieftans

Sunday Morning Coming Down by Kris Kristofferson

      American Pie by Don Mclean

EDIT: I just realized you said "all instrumental." In that case, use only the Andy Mckee songs. All others have lyrics of some sort. However, they're all damn good songs.

      Some others I thought of:

      Lighthearted:
      • Manitoba - "People Eating Fruit", "Schedules And Fares" and "Happy Ending" (Start Breaking My Heart)
      • Caribou - "Hands First" (The Milk Of Human Kindness)
      • Sonic Youth - "Unwind" (Washing Machine)

      Darker:
      • Tristeza - "Are We People" (Dream Signals In Full Circles)
      • Flying Saucer Attack - "Oceans" and "Instrumental Wish" (Distance)
      • m83 - "Gone" (Dead Cities, Red Seas, And Lost Ghosts)

Also, it's kind of cheating since you said music that should be in a movie, but the K-Pax soundtrack is really good too.

Let me know if you run out of suggestions...not likely. But in case you do, I would love to think about more.

Addition, and actually was in a damn good movie by the name of Smokin' Aces.

      Dead Reckoning by Clint Mansell.

You guys are great! Now I have a bunch of new songs to listen to!

Now, I'd like to change it a bit... I've bought a bunch of your guys' suggestions, and they were just what I was looking for, but now I want to put a twist on it.

What if the movie that these songs had to be good for was an action, adventure, fantasy, or dystopic movie?

And lyrics are OK, now. Just not overly heavy on them (you know, no lyrics that totally dominate the song)

(I'm giving a bit of wiggle room )

What will you, the music resource extroardinaire, come up with now?

(Btw don't bother suggesting "Ride of the Valkyries" -I've already got it )

These are some just from the top of my head:

-Superstar - Sonic Youth (I think this song was in Juno too)
-Call To Arms - The Black Angels (has lyrics, but could perfectly fit in a movie, in my opinion at least)
-Poem Of A Dead Song - Broadcast
      -Asleep - The Album Leaf

Radiohead is pretty dark, so you'll like that stuff. Start out with OK Computer, The Bends or maybe In Rainbows though. The other stuff is kind of an aquired taste.

Some Psychedelic stuff that has vocals (but you're barely able to hear them) is The Warlocks

And anything by God is an Astronaut

Hope you like the tunes man.

      Thanks!

I bought the one by The Album Leaf, and the one by The Black Angels sounds perfect but is unfortunately Album Only.

God Is An Astronaut sounds good as well, I may buy some of their songs too.

      Once again, thank you!

There's a group called Two Steps from Hell, and they make the cinematic trailer music for the big films. They only sell their music by commercial contract though, which makes it unavailable to us by consumer standards. People are sometimes able to load pieces of their music onto youtube before it gets removed a few weeks later, but I've always been able to find this particular song (the one I'm linking below).

They make the BEST music I've ever heard. Ever.

Try searching "Thomas Bergersen" for music also, he is the co-founder and co-owner of Two Steps from Hell, most of the music I've found from them was through his name.

Well... Too bad for you, 'cause I'm gonna post some cheerful stuff.

Afrikaan beat and Swinging safari by Bert Kaempfert...

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Vivaldi yet? Everybody knows that guy. And he does a pretty good job in my opinion too ^^

      Spring & Winter

I always imagine the 3rd movement of Beethoven's 5th symphony as being a good score for Pirates of the Caribbean, for some reason ^^
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CJ6z...eature=related (this one's very good in my opinion, but has some irritating lags in between pieces)

Beethoven's ninth symphony, first movement. Could play somewhere in the Da Vinci Code movie....
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2AEaQJuKDY

Pretty much anything from Beethoven, really... Check out Eroica for some victory-parade music. Check out his 6th symphony for a summer landscape being painted. Check out his 7th symphony for some sort of love story.
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFltqVS8d9I
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZGb-...eature=related
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8eigkwmMEo

      Mozart's fun too ^^

      Oh! And Brahms!
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK_gY...eature=related

And of course, we have Shostakovic with some sort of marching-army & attack on Leningrad music.
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwz6eARrQs4

And that's it, I'm gonna stop (for now )

@invader_tech: Damn, those guys are GOOD.

I heard they're releasing an album soon, actually. They want more money.

@Carousoul: Yes, I've heard of them. They're really good.

      @ClouD: K

@Cryo: Good songs! Some people don't, but I, for one, like and appreciate classical!

Also, moved to Entertainment seeing as there's not much senselessness going on in here. :3

If you want some Dark, atmospheric instrumental...

      Lustmord is your band.

(It's very ambient, somewhat spooky music. If you want something with a lot going on, might wanna pass. It's very minimalistic.)

For the lighthearted side, "Dolphineus" by Gov't Mule is a good instrumental song.

Icct Hedral (Philip Glass Orchestration) by Aphex Twin. Probably the best instrumental song I've ever heard.

Speaking of Philip Glass, the "Metamorphosis" series are great. Beautiful piano work.
