Why has nobody replied to this?
I started watching this show the other day; damn is it great. It really is.
I'm not watching it cause it has Meth in it... Honestly.
It's my favourite show, right up there with House. 8D
I enjoy it as well. Probably one of the best shows on television.
Love it. Ahh and you just reminded me, I missed last Sunday's episode! *downloads*
I could have sworn I had made a thread about this a while back. I absolutely love this show. It's my new favorite.
I rewatched the last episode today because I'm very bored. The acting was superior to that of past episodes. Dialog accomplished a lot. Finally some reflection on Walt's extraordinary journey. He's finally got emotions again. The father-son bonding was also much needed. The conflict between our two heroes was tearing the show apart for a while.
And of course the allegory of the whole episode. Walt and Jesse are as a fly to the cartel. Or to Hank's DEA. This episode was extremely foreboding. The criminals and cops are all trapped together because of "positive pressure," and it may take a while for the cops to swat the criminals, but they aren't going anywhere, and eventually either they fall into one of the cartel's vats or get swatted by the cops. There's no way out.
Again I say, spectacular episode, and not filler as most people have been saying.
I loved the last episode. I found it hilarious because they just couldn't get the damn fly, but it was pretty foreboding too, as you mentioned.
Watching the first episode right now... I have regained my faith in television.
Just watched the season 3 finale or whatever...
Holy shit. I've never watched something as intense as that.
I'm gonna start watching it soon. One of my friends recommended it to me.
You go do that. :3
Holy shit!
Indeed, what a finish!
Do you think Jesse followed through with it, or did he chicken out?
Definitely chickened out.
Yeah man, I read chicken all over that face.
Spoiler for third season finale:
This hasn't been replied to in over 2 years, but I just want to say this is the best TV show I've ever watched, and anyone can watch the first 4 seasons for free online here. Seasons 1-3 are also on Netflix.
Excellent character development, the best I've ever seen, and great acting and plot. It's intriguing, captivating you the entire time. I was upset that the last season ended and can't wait until season 5.
This show is pretty great.
I fuckin love Jesse. One time in class a guy called him "that wigger from Breaking Bad" and I nearly kicked his ass. Then I asked myself "What would Heisenburg do?" So I made a bomb and blew him up instead.
It is only interesting to science students and people. I have watched its two episodes, I think it was not pretty good to me.
You need to watch more than two episodes. The characters change, you begin to know them and care about what happens, but that can't really be accomplished in 2 episodes. I didn't think much of it for the first half of the first season, but by end of it all it was my favourite series.
And it's definitely not only for scientifically inclined people.
"You got me."
I LOVES ME SOME BLUE METH ====== hisinberg
For some reason I didn't find this season so far as entertaining. There's really nowhere for them to go with Walt's development anymore.
Spoiler for spoiler:
Maybe it's just because I watched the others one-after-another, while this is the first season in which I've had to wait a week between episodes, and sit through commercials, so I couldn't get as much into it. And it sucks that we have to wait months now until the season resumes. But hopefully it will get more exciting now because
Spoiler for spoiler:
and that should be pretty entertaining.
I haven't watch it.. haven't heard of it too.. maybe I was just too busy, But it sounds interesting, Do you guys have links on this so I can watch it online? Thanks :)
Bryan Cranston (Walter White) was on Anderson (who happens to be a Breaking Bad fan) the other day and mentioned that the following season would be the last.
I can't give you links to watch for free, but Netflix I know has the first couple of seasons. For me, season 5 wasn't on Netflix at the time, so I caught up by downloading it from the PlayStation Network.
Yes actually. :)

If for some reason that doesn't work, this site is also good, it just loads a little slower:
Project Free TV :: Breaking Bad
FYI those two sites are also good for finding just about any good streaming show if you can't watch it any other way. I watched Dexter and Game of Thrones there too. There are going to be a few ads (sometimes the ones that trick you into thinking you're hitting the play button, god I hate those) and the resolution isn't always the best, but they actually let you watch the shows without interruption, they don't secretly ask you to pay or or anything like most sites do.
I finally got done watching the 5th season and overall I thought it was kind of stupid. The whole thing was basically about meth, which I'm not interested in honestly. The only thing that kept me watching was how different it was. I basically hated Walt throughout the whole show, no offense to the actor (I liked him in other things like Malcom in the Middle lol). He starts out with good intentions for his family and turns into this weird, greedy, annoying thing. Science was kind of a theme, but the philosophical/moral motivations of these characters were more than questionable. I thought some things were cool, like Jesse's idea to get that huge magnet. Of course Walt's weird stubbornness almost gets in the way lol. I didn't expect it to end where it did, but I'm kind of just glad it's over.
"YEAH SCIENCE!" Lol breaking bad is favorite tv show, just look at my avatar
Why does everyone like this show so much? I guess I just found it kind of boring. Does anyone actually like the main character Walt? All he did was want to make meth in the end. I couldn't find him interesting at all really, he just got on my nerves and I just thought he was weird.
Yeah, I think Walt's character development seemed kind of weird. He started off as this nice, well-meaning father and husband and slowly turned into this demented sociopath that can kill people off without a second thought. His motivations are kind of hard to grasp, even after they're partly explained. He didn't take payment for his treatment because he saw it as charity and was too proud to accept it. That's understandable. But the fact that he immediately decided he would raise the money on his own by cooking meth? Yeah, you've lost me.
His attitude throughout the series just seems to get weirder. He overreacts to everything, he gets mad when things don't go his way, he becomes incredibly greedy, egotistical and power hungry and just doesn't seem to get the idea of quitting while you're ahead. I understand these changes can come about due to all of the events his character has been through throughout the series. But some of it just seems too sudden and too drastic to be believable.
He just evolves into this immature tyrant by the end, and his constant confident attitude just didn't fit the things he was doing. Another thing is that the wife seemed like she actually liked that he endangered and virtually ruined the whole family. The whole thing was just... weird. lol
Yeah, the whole thing with the wife was strange too. She started off supportive, but a bit cold and bitchy at times. When she found out about Walt's secret, she tried to kick him out of her life. Then she's all supportive again and is completely on board with the whole husband: drug dealer, wife: money launderer thing. Then it's all "I'm your hostage! I won't let you near my children!"
Again, some of it is understandable, but the rest is just confusing.
I'm surprised that you two didn't like it. I won't say you're wrong. It makes sense and is entertaining to some people and not to others, as with a lot of things.
I found it funny, intense and entertaining. It seemed pretty realistic too and I can't agree with the arguments some people brought up. I mean I'm not interested in meth either, but that didn't ruin it for me at all. Since when has that ever been a problem? I'm not interested in blood spatter analysis either, but Dexter was still awesome. And you're supposed to hate Walt. That's what makes it interesting. He's the main character but the bad guy. Just because he's a bad person doesn't mean he's a bad character. Like Joffrey in Game of Thrones. Yeah Walt gets weird and power hungry, but that's part of what makes it so entertaining, trying to figure out what his motives are. His development seemed to happen very slowly to me, so I don't know what you mean when you say he changed too quickly. There were no two episodes I could pinpoint in which his character suddenly changed. It happened so gradually, through a bunch of little events, it was hardly noticeable.
Skyler's development and reactions made sense to me too. Of course she's going to get mad when she finds out he's hiding something from her and is cooking meth. And of course she'd try to get away. But she couldn't get away because he wouldn't let her, because she cared about her kids and didn't want Walt to get into trouble, she was stuck with no way out that she could see which wouldn't put her family in danger. Eventually she'd toughed it out and gotten used to it, which happens to a lot of people in real situations. She changed into a stronger person and began to just endure. She started doing what she knew needed to be done for the best result, even though she hated the situation. After a very long time, with this new 'toughened' state of mind, she even started to appreciate having such a powerful husband. Women start falling for alpha guys for that reason all the time, and there may have been a bit of Stockholm syndrome. There's nothing about it that seems unrealistic to me. In fact it seems the characters were very well thought out and scripted.
But none of that even seems worth talking about. To me what makes any show or movie good are the details, not the main plot points. The dialog, how information is conveyed to the audience, how scenes are orchestrated, etc. and I found all of that great. Again, I'm not trying to argue. Your opinion is your own, it's not like you chose not to like it. I'm just kinda astounded.
It wasn't all bad, some parts were exciting and interesting. I just couldn't really make any parallels to my own reality with any of the characters, they all seemed very fictional. Not that fiction is bad, but they seemed to attempt a sort of realistic feel to it. I just couldn't relate. The story was also disappointing to me, but it's interesting to contemplate whether it was implying something deeper, such as the meth standing for something else like ill-founded ego inflation or something.
Oh no, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying I didn't like it. I only found out about the series recently and blazed through it all in just a few weeks. I did enjoy it. I was just pointing out a few strange character shifts that weren't very well thought out, in my opinion.
Breaking Bad is tragedy in the Shakespearean sense. It's a story of non-admirable characters coming to ruin because of their flaws. If you can't sympathize at all with the characters, you're probably not very honest with yourself, but likability isn't the appeal so much as a kind of car-wreck fascination. Walt is no kind of hero--he's poison. Everyone in the show suffers from their association with him.
No sir, he did not. He started out ordinary, but embittered, insincere, closed-off and self-deluding. The cancer amplified the bitterness and started to eat away at the self-delusion, uncovering deep narcissism and moral neutrality.
Yeah Walt is a real bastard. I understand why some people don't like the show. It can be pretty painful to watch at times.
