Penumbra

So me and my dad went to the Best Buy yesterday and we picked up all 3 Penumbra games for $20.

For anyone who doesn't know what Penumbra is, it's a first person survival horror game which the main character (you) recieves a letter from your dad, saying something about him dieing, and that he's been dead for nearly 30 years.

Anyway, you end up in this weird facility in Greenland, and some strange things are going on at this place.

Penumbra is a giant puzzle game. I'm really glad I picked this up, because I love getting scared, and I love puzzles!

Has anyone else played this before? I'm really liking it so far.

The shadows are amazing, but not everything is top-notch quality. I've noticed a few texture skewing and the model animations aren't that great, but it's good none-the-less.

I highly recommend trying out the tech demo.

I played Overture. The graphics were nice and they did a good job of scaring the crap outta you. It was a bit more puzzle oriented for my taste though. I'm also very picky about my adventure games though

Heh, well me and my dad usually team up with these puzzle games.

But he sleeps for most of the day (works at night-morning) so I have to play alone sometimes.

I've played the first two, and I played the tech demo a long time ago. Very interesting games.
Models/animation were not that great, as you said, but the grainy lighting and atmosphere were very engrossing. Definitely some scary moments in those games. I especially liked the myst-style hand for manipulating things realistically. First time I'd seen something like that in a game.

That said, my adventure game list is rather sparse as far as the ones that don't involve shooting your discoveries with shotguns go.
