Watched "Hight plains drifter" (1973) with Clint Eastwood. It was different. His voice, and how little he spoke reminded me of Snake Plisken, and Snake in Metal Gear Solid PS games.

Went to the movie theater last night and watched The Family. I liked it. If you like movies like The Godfather, and you like Michelle Pfeiffer, Tommy Lee Jones, and Robert DeNiro, you might like it too. Of course, it's not nearly as good as The Godfather. I should rewatch The Godfather some time. Of course, The Godfather is more serious, whereas The Family is more a satire of the mafia movie genre.

Insidious: Chapter 2 - This movie was weird. It was almost like Kill Bill, Vol. 2 wherein that it's the second act of the movie rather than a sequel, if that makes sense. There's far less building of scares and far more realization of the story that the first one set up. The movies are so connected that it was impressive. It does set up a sequel, but I can't fault them for wanting more money. It wasn't scary though. Like at all.

I just watched Star Trek Into Darkness and thought it was a terrible movie. I enjoyed the visuals despite many having a problem with J.J. Abrams lens flare but all that silly relationship drama was too much for me. I never watched the original series or any of the older movie before the reboot so I'm analyzing this film without bias.
I also recently watched and older movie called The Last Picture Show. It had Jeff Bridges in one of his first roles ever and I have to say it was excellent. The second half of the movie gets really depressing but its a really good coming-of-age drama. It's set in a dying desert town and you watch as things change for the main character from a lively senior year of high school to the loss of good friendships as they move on from the town. A great story of loss and change. Please see it.

I thought it could have been a lot better. I know Spock is supposed to be emotionless but I found Zachary Quinto too wooden for my taste (and a fat Spock?) I got the impression they may have been trying to recreate old Star trek a bit too much (IMO Chris Pine was definitely from the William Shatner school of acting) Like you, I don't want relationships in my sci-fi (I skip through most of that in Falling Skies to get to the lovely mechs and skitters etc)

I've recently watched "Oblivion" and found it better than I expected it to be. I thought Tom Cruise handled it well. (liked him in War of the Worlds too) I thought the drones were a bit of a rip-off from Falling Skies ...but good nevertheless. IMO worth a look.

Don Jon. If you haven't seen the entire movie, please don't judge. The ideal audience is male teenagers and young men who want to know more about SEX, LOVE & RELATIONSHIPS as well as older men seeking clarification on those things. I won't say anything more as I don't want to spoil what I thought was a terrific movie *assuming* you are not uptight about sexual situations and talk. If you are too young, you may not be ready for it. My opinion is that it is not ideal for most women of any age and there are a lot of gratuitous porno scenes as seen on the main character's laptop but open minded women should be able to appreciate it if they can get past some of the stereotypes and sexism...actually, who am I to speak for what women might think of it. Just my thoughts. Somehow it maintained an R rating...seemed more NC-17 to me. Try to avoid spoilers.

I'm being intentionally vague because I hate spoilers. Besides, personally I always liked going into a movie with no expectations or preconceptions. At least I try to do that. Often it is difficult not to automatically think of every crime-drama cliche when watching a movie about a serial killer, you know?

Did I already say that I had watched The East? I can't remember....and I'm too lazy to check. So I watched The East. While the main character's decision to turn is expected, the movie succeeded at turning me too. It had something to do with how they shot the scenes of her undercover, how they felt more real than her time spent at home. I'm not sure I can explain it. I really enjoyed it though!

I also watched The Call. I expected for it to be predictable, and in a way it was but I wasn't rolling my eyes every 10 seconds either. I especially enjoyed the ending. I gave a silent, joyous cheer. That's going to sound terrible, if you've seen it and know what I'm talking about, but there's a savage part of me that wholeheartedly agreed. Well...mostly, anyway.

And it's not a movie but I want to say that I am thoroughly enjoying the TV show Sleepy Hollow. In this most recent episode the protagonists induced a lucid dream state (though they didn't outright call it that) to fight a monster! YES. One of the things I like about it is that I haven't once thought "Yeah, whatever." Or gotten annoyed with their line of thought/reactions to things. Part of it is because of the guy they have playing Ichabod Crane. At first I wasn't sure I liked the female lead, Abbie Mills, but I'm warming up to her.

Just got back from watching CARRIE!! on the first screen date, it was totally 8/10, same scripts from the original, but with a "today's" feel to it like cell phones and etc....there was some added stuff but it was still good, and she really did damage in the end but 10x better! You all GOT to see it!!! This movie made me cry, feel resentment and happy for what she done to them! Very very deep stuff!
P.s. when the blood went on her there was a mix of the original and rage carrie 2 similarities, and i love rage carrie 2 also, when the blood spilled on her it was done repeatedly like 4-5 times in slow motion......very very good director!

Carrie sounds good! Sounds like some good LDing inspiration as well.

I really liked "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" currently on cable/satellite in the US. It kind of reminded me of a deeper version of a John Hughes Film. Nice soundtrack as well.

The Purge: The premise seemed unrealistic so I was dubious but actually despite being unrealistic the premise makes for a great build up. I was really into it for the first hour of the film. But rather than do something clever for the climax, it just turned into deus ex machina christmas. It really pissed me off, actually, to have such potential and then take a fat shit on it.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

I rather watch "You're next".....you might like it better than the purge, i seen the purge and couldn't watch more than 15mins of it, i just know when a movie doesn't get my attention in 15mins ? it's crap....i will watch you're next today, i was planning on watching it....i love thrillers.

I really enjoyed the first fifteen minutes

      Spoiler for The Purge:

Anyways I also saw more movies

This is the End: Pretty similar to all the other Seth Rogan/Judd Apatow movies like Superbad, Knocked Up and Pineapple Express. Great movie to watch stoned, or on other drugs. And god, Emma Watson's so cute she should just be in everything so I can stare at her pretty face.

Man of Steel: Superman just doesn't appeal to me as a character, even with Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan and David S Goyer behind the helm. The film is really well done, though. It's on par with The Avengers and Dark Knight. I really appreciate the way Nolan managed to inject some realism into something as fantastic as Superman. For example, rather than make him vulnerable to kryptonite they make him vulnerable to atmosphere similar to Krypton's since he's adapted to Earth atmosphere. I also think that both Russel Crow and Kevin Costner performed fantastically. Amy Adams and Henry Cavill did adequately enough. Also Morpheus is in it. I'm really looking forward to Justice League now, actually. Superman is sort of the Captain Avenger of the Justice League so even if I don't like the character, the rest of the colorful ensemble will more than make up for it and if they keep up the superb story telling it's sure to be epic as fuck. Martian Manhunter ftw.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

Bring Me The Head Of The Machine Gun Woman - YouTube for me it was 7/10....woman + guns = good! Subtitle only movie!

Bonnie & Clyde: Justified - (Official Trailer) - YouTube 7/10 this movie was only fun to watch, movie done in a outgoing and fun way, only focused on B&C.
Still waiting for the series though.

I saw "Now You See Me" over a week ago. It was alright. Interesting concept about a magic group that turns into another forensic movie. But it was still good. The ending wasn't very satisfying though.

Star Trek Into Darkness - As someone who's pretty hard on action films, especially if JJ Abrams is behind the wheel, I was actually pleasantly surprised. It didn't suck. It had plenty of flaws and plot holes, but they're not gaping wide to the point where they're distracting (expect near the end, but whatever). Granted it felt a little like a cute twist on Wrath of Khan, following the climax pretty closely just without the Genesis device. I think they were trying to exclude the Genesis device because it's sort of... well... silly. Plus Man of Steel was already using its own genesis device lolz. The story revolves around something no less silly though, but I won't give away any spoilers. Besides, you don't watch Star Trek for the story. You watch it to see Khan kick some major ass.

Kick-Ass 2 - This one was pretty disappointing, honestly. While I'm not a big fan of Nicholas Cage, at least he had a good role in the last one. They replaced the fatherly role with Jim Carrey, someone I actually respect as an actor, but his part was short lived and anti-climatic. They tried to up the ante in several ways, but it didn't work in my opinion. There were a few good funny scenes, but it wasn't even that funny over all. In fact the plot mostly pissed me off. That spoiled brat from the first one decides to become the world's first supervillain and hires a bunch of people to go out killing superheroes. Hit Girl just wants to be a normal teenage girl and won't have anything to do with it. Then she does.

We're the Millers - If you're looking for a good comedy, this is the one to see. This fucker's hilarious. I laughed my ass off practically the whole way through. This middle aged drug dealer gets robbed so his boss tells him to make up for the losses he has to smuggle drugs across the border. He hires a fake family to help make him look the part, hilarity ensues.

R.I.P.D. - Tries to be the next Men in Black but with the after life instead of aliens. It's only tolerable aspects are what it ripped off M.I.B.

The Conjuring - Top notch ghost flick, very well put together. Obviously, being a ghost movie, it's going to be stupid. People getting dragged around the room near the end and stuff. But it also deals well with subtlety, and it's the subtle stuff that'll surely give nightmares to the easily spooked.

After Earth - I... gah. I didn't know this was M Night Shamalakfhsj at first but I remember thinking it must have had a shitty director. He's got the Smiths speaking in some weird mixed accent or something. The film also drags a lot, and it's predictable as fuck. Couple good lines, not worth a whole lot else.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.
