Legend of the Fist: Return of Chen Zhen.

Kind of disappointed with this one, was expecting it to be more Ip Man-esque. There was a lot of story development, with some fight scenes peppered in. What puzzled me was the erratic editing they used during the fights. Especially the final fight, where Donnie Yen basically channeled the late Bruce Lee. After getting knocked down, they have the cliched flashback sequence in B&W with various quotes from different characters. The he gets all angry and uses that to win the fight, I haven't seen that 20,000,000 times before.

Though I was impressed with Donnie's physique.

The Wrestler. I can't say I didn't like it, but I wasn't much impressed with it, either. There were some great performances, but everything about the story was so obvious from beginning to end that it almost seemed like the movie didn't need to be made. "Washed up celebrity is highly dysfunctional outside the spotlight" is not exactly news.

It also seemed gimmicky the way Aronofsky kept telegraphing one action and then following through with something just a little different. If you're not sure what I mean:

With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

500 Days of Summer. A pretty realistic and entertaining film. I enjoyed it. One of the better romantic comedies, for sure.

Good Will Hunting. I had been meaning to watch it for ages and I finally did, and it was great, nearly cried at some scenes, very touching and inspirational, even though I'm not a Matt Damon or Ben Affleck fan.

Paprika. It was...very strange. Overall a good film, but I probably wouldn't want to watch it again. Except for the nonsense talk.

I was disappointed with Paprika, the characters felt empty.

Watched Transformers 3 last night in 3D. You definitely get your money's worth in terms of action, the last hour was basically wall-to-wall action in a huge bombed out Chicago set. Pretty amazing stuff.

Saw blue valentine recently. It was a pretty depressing love story. I also watched and then bought unknown with Liam Neeson. My buddy hated the movie, but I thought is was on par with the movie taken. The only part I didn't like that much was the ending of the movie. But besides that, it was pretty good.

I wouldn't know, I never watched Star Trek.

Watched The Big Lebowski last night, John Goodman completely stole the show.

Freedom Writers was pretty good, and Spirited Away was excellent.

Just saw Inglourious Basterds. Enjoyed it!

Tell us how the new transformers is. Im not gonna see it till I get a good review. But even if its not that great, I kind of want to see it just because of the new model/actress. Or should I say actor because now woman actresses want to be called actors so they are created equal. But I like to say actress because it differentiates between a male and female actor

I'm not 100% sure what an indie movie is, i think it is, but im not sure I DEFINATLY need to see all the other movies made by the maker of Spirited Away now, one of the best movies i've ever seen!

From Wikipedia; the definition is spot-on.

A feature film that is produced mostly outside of a major film studio. The term also refers to art films which differ noticeably from most mass marketed films. In addition to being produced by independent production companies, independent films are often produced and/or distributed by subsidiaries of major studios. In order to be considered independent, less than half of a film's financing should come from a major studio. Independent films are sometimes distinguishable by their content and style and the way in which the filmmakers' personal artistic vision is realized. Usually, but not always, independent films are made with considerably lower budgets than major studio films. Generally, the marketing of independent films is characterized by limited release designed to build word-of-mouth or to reach small specialty audiences.

My favourites are Lost in Translation, Leaves of Grass, Reservoir Dogs (!) and Memento. All indie.

Thank you for correcting my spelling of indie I spelt it wrong lol. An indie movie is basically a smaller budget movie that didnt go into the major theatres. It will sometimes go into smaller movie theatres made to only show indie movies. I can't say exactly what the correct definition of it. Have you heard of the Sundance channel or IFC. Those are basically indie channels that show indie movies and also have TV shows that are usually only know by people who watch those channels. One of the shows is freaks and geeks. Great show. Its where a lot of people started who were in the knocked up movie and a few others. yea so basically an indie movie is produced outside a major filming studio. That is the actual definition there's some food for thought lol . That was a long explanation. I should write a novel.

Miyazaki's movies are all wonderful, and while Spirited Away is the most popular, I think my favorite is Howl's Moving Castle.

Yes, I believe it is in fact an Indie movie. That movie is such a big mind fuck. Its weird too, because its directed by Christopher Nolan, but it was released in 2000, so it was before all his big hits like batman and inception.

I really hated Memento, a lot.

Speaking of which, I just watched The Hurt Locker and Guy Pierce was in it (thankfully not for long though).
