      South Park vs. Family Guy

The search button yielded no results.

South Park vs. Family Guy; the age old TV question.

      Now for my opinion:
South Park is in-depth, deals with politics and current events, and is not afraid to express a strong but valid opinion on touchy subjects. Every story has a strong plot, even though it may be silly, with emotional character development throughout. The characters are original and the jokes are relevant to the plot 90% of the time, never needing to rely on cutscenes.

Family Guy has shallow, one-line characters, relying on cut-scenes to deliver jokes. The plots slowly decline throughout, and the characters hardly react to anything that happens, only saying "you think that's bad, remember the time X happened"? And then cutting to a sloppy and poorly-written joke.

I also respect The Simpsons and King of the Hill.
Agree with me, or prove me wrong.
      Vote.

South Park is timeless. Family guy is just annoying.

I like both for their differences. Family Guy can be very hit or miss, but there's been episodes of South Park where I haven't laughed at once. I agree with everything in the OP.

The Simpsons was amazing. Up until a couple seasons ago, that is.

I was watching the one where cartman is dog the bounty hunter and ike falls in love with his teacher.

But that was a while ago now. I like family guy when its not being stupid. When they repeat sensless things over and over it gets really annoying. Atleast southpark has that attitude of "fuck you". Where family guy tries to make everyone laugh.

If a South Park didn't make you laugh then you missed the entire underlying point of the episode.

One can get the "point" of something without the joke being funny to them.
It's never happened to me with South Park, but with Family Guy and The Simpsons(more recently) I can remember it happenening. Or at least only "ha ha-ing" once and no real laughs.

I have literally had asthma attacks watching South Parks because I've laughed too much, and I don't even have asthma. Clear winner

I'm gonna have to go with Family Guy. It's less offensive, and running gags don't annoy me.

When I watch South Park with people, just people who don't think it's funny just laugh at all the wrong moments and miss all the subtle jokes or references. I don't think that anyone can get the point of a South Park and still think it's not funny...

I have to agree, the Simpsons was the most amazing show evar until the last couple years hit.

Family Guy is too shallow and dumbed down to be appreciated by me. It's a random piece of crap that contains jokes that will never stand the test of time. It has it's moments, but that's about it.

I, for one, can't wait for the return of Futurama.

^You don't like Family Guy for being too dumbed down, and yet Futurama is basically a dumbed-down version of The Simpsons, only set in the future. Don't get me wrong, I love Futurama, I'm just saying.

I'd say that ofttimes South Park goes a lot deeper than FG, but it can also be way more offensive. But that's not saying much, a couple episodes of FG I've seen are...yeah. For me, my friends and family, SP makes for a majority of inside-jokes. ("DEY TOOK OUR JARRRBZ!!11")

All in all, though, I'd say I've had more actual ROFL moments with FG. Quagmire makes up for the show's other shortcomings.

Don't let the fanboyism get to your head. I never said South Park wasn't funny; in fact, I prefer South Park over Family Guy, but they're both good shows. I've never not watched an SP episode and never gotten the 'point' (like it's that hard with South Park in the first place?).

South Park, it's just too timeless and funny.

Family Guy kind of depends on joke scenes that aren't even related are associated to the main story. Family is still a bit enjoyable though.

South Park's satire and underhanded humor make it a winner by a landslide.

I like how almost none of the "Family Guy" voters actually comment on the thread.
Maybe because there's no way to back up Family Guy...?

To me, a good episode of Family Guy is about equal to a bad episode of South Park. The best South Park episodes, however, reach a level of comedy that Family Guy could never possibly imagine. So what I'm trying to say is South Park FTW.

I completely agree with this statement.

I can enjoy Family Guy, but I always find it lacking the various humour of South Park.

Also, those that believe South Park is only toilet humor have either only seen the first couple seasons or are not watching them at all.

I agree with that South Park is not just toilet humour, but I don't agree that Family Guy deserves any credibility at all. Everything is just so sloppy, from the story to the jokes to the animation to the characters .
But then again, I'm a disciple of Matt and Trey, and I've watched every South Park episode 4 times, so I'm a little bit warped.

How is Futurama more dumbed down than the Simpsons? If you're referencing the science in the show, then you should know that the science in and of itself is a parody. The only difference I perceive between the two shows is that I find Futurama consistently more clever and funny than the Simpsons.
