The decision is an outrage. I'd like to see some opinions if you guys don't mind watching an otherwise great fight between two legends.

Me too. Apparently they've both agreed to an immediate rematch, so in 3-6 months we get to see another stellar fight. I just hope the judges don't fuck it up again. To me this is far worse than the Bisbing-Hammil Decision...Plus it was a title shot.
Slow video load. ttooooo slow
There are two options, try the other one if you haven't already?
Yeah, both were too slow.
I searched around but all I managed to get to watch was the pre-fight propaganda by UFC.
It's worth the wait if you leave it on and do other stuff while is loads up...I forgot you lived in australlia...There's a UFC event going there soon :P
I watched it last night while i got wasted, my 2nd time watching UFC, and i was LAUGHING!!!!!! at how the other guy won, Shogun dominated that guy, not badly but he dominated.
You guys need spoiler tags!
Even fight metric thinks shogun won:
http://fightmetric.com/fights/Machida-Shogun.html
I think this fight really could have gone either way. sure, shogun had some good leg kicks, and a couple body shots. but lyoto got more good solid body shots a more good head shots. I had it going 2-2 in to the final round where neither one of them really impressed me. I would not liked to have been the judges in that fight.
tbh, you never intentionally take a champion to a decision. The judges will always go in favor of the champion unless you dominated him badly, ala forest vs rampage. Lyoto had a few flurries in a couple rounds where it looked like he was actually trying to finish the fight, shogun never took such actions. aggression is one of the considerations.
so, all in all, I can see how the judges could have gone that way, but I WAS suprised it was unanimous.
Ill tell you one thing though....I was SO pissed at machida for not front kicking shogun in his ribs. He left that open 90% of the damn fight.
I disagree. I think shogun was the aggressor for 90% of the fight.
while forrest did use leg kicking as a big part of his arsenal, he also did dominate Jackson for a whole round straight on the ground, and they gave him and 8-10 round for that. That was the difference.
I think when you look at it again, without the announcers, it is not even close to that kind of domination. I saw two very clear rounds for both of them, and then one that could have gone either way. machida stuffed any take down attempt shogun made, and he landed a fair share of his own body and head shots. Shogun was quite bright red for the first part of that fight. In my opinion, this fight was actually really close, but Im happy they are giving them a rematch, so one of them better finish this time.
I re watched the fight again without sound and kept my own score.
1st Round: Basically a draw, gave an extra point to Shogun for pushing the pace, aggression, and control.
2nd Round: Machida, very close.
3rd Round: Machida, Very close again
4th Round: Shogun
5th Round: Shogun. This one was a blowout for him.
If Kieth Jardine can lose a fight with 1 knock down in the final seconds of a fight, Shogun should have won that fight in the last round. The judges are fucked. They gotta be taking bribes. Horay for MMA taking after boxing.

lol, nice box, but now you see at least a little where Im coming from right? as you said, the first round was essentially a draw. and you could have really given it to either one. The rest of your scoring I agree with. So, if anything, he didnt get robbed, he was just unlucky.

Machida was out struck every round
does this website make these stats after having hours of time to review it? because a judge does not have that luxury. We all know and agree machida lost the last two rounds, thats a given.
But look at round 3, if you didnt have the benefit of replaying to look at how many shots really "landed" it would be a toss up round. Since Machida is the champion, he gets toss up rounds by default.
round 2, while the stats might say shogun had "significantlly" better striking, he didnt even land any head shots, and he had a take down stuffed. and all three of machidas head shots were apparently "power shots"
so, that leaves us with round 1. This was another quite even round, and again, without the benefit of repeated replay, what do you see? on leg strikes, percentage wise, it was only 1% difference. On head strikes shogun was better but lyoto landed an extra "power strike" plus stuffed a take down. again, since its a championship fight, a close round like that is going to go to the champion.
so, if I am to believe this site's counts, shogun only dominated in the last 2 rounds. the other three were very close. with round 2 going to machida and 1 and 3 being pretty deadlocked. Stuffed take downs count for a lot in a judges eyes, so maybe if shogun hadnt even gone for it, he would have been awarded round 1 and won.
Stuffed take downs don't mean shit. It just means the other person is being aggressive, and controlling the fight which does normally score points. Shogun also owned Machida in the clinch.
I agree with you that stuffed take downs shouldnt matter much, all Im saying is that to judges, they do. Too much emphisis is put on take downs in my opinion, I mean, someone should not get a huge point for a take down if they end up in guard, they are actually in more danger than the person on the bottom.
I dont particularly agree he "owned" him in the clinch, neither one of them did much in the clinch for me.
The UFC needs some modifications to its rules. Did shogun win the fight overall? yes, I believe he did. But I think machida played the rules well enough to work them to his advantage, as disappointing as that is, so that he got the better of the scoring.
I agree. The UFC judging is way to bias for american wrestlers, that's a major problem and why a lot of people loved Pride because it had a different way of judging fights, also a 10 and a 5 minute round instead of 3 5's. They also judged the fight as a whole instead of on a point for point basis.
