I don't think Pandora and last.fm are very similar. Pandora is just a radio, last.fm is a music community, sort of.

I just use them to find new music.

I think that site sucks. The majority of the songs I look up on there are either listed but not playable, 30 second samples, or rare versions that suck. Last.fm is a big tease and really gets on my nerves.

I don't think it's a tease at all...

...but I'm sure that's mostly because I use it to keep track of my own musical phases, find others with similar taste, or find bands I've not yet listened to based on my current preferences; not predominantly for listening to music outside my own collection.

Although I only personally know one person who uses it, so I only have one friend sofar.

And that's exactly the way I use it. It wasn't meant to be a place to go to listen to full songs by other artists. I have found others with Super and Excellent compatibility with my musical tastes that have lots of other artists in their collection that I hadn't even heard of that I now love. Like Archive
