What was the first online game you played?

What was the first online game you played and what were your feelings when you were joining a server?

My first online game was in Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. It was quite fun and I was very excited when I first started playing. I soon found out that you could use single player cheats in the multiplayer part. I would noclip around and freak people out, but I soon stopped that as it wasn't any fun :/

It was a pretty fun game. I'm looking forward to the new Medal of Honor.

The Kingdom of Loathing. Still play, but I'm not such a big ascender anymore. It appealed to me way back in middle school because I was using dialup and could not practically play anything else.

I tried downloading RunEscape one time, but the game code took all night to download and then it wouldn't run. I tried Maplestory once, but I didn't know how to build my character right and even without that problem, the game requires a lot of grinding to level up at any speed. The unreliability of my connection also makes playing anything with more graphics that stick figures a problem.

I think my first one was Ragnarok Online, and of course, being the little animetard I was back then, I was in love with it. Of course, I only had the trial version, so I had to eventually stop...

But then I found Runescape, a game that (among others) helped change my narrow-minded "graphics make or break the game" outlook on video games as a whole. Not the greatest online game ever made, that's for certain, but it does entertain. And it does show that fantasy adventure-exploration games have come a long way (Zork, anyone?).

I was happy that it was free, but I wasn't too fond of having to read everything.

Quake 3 when I was 9. I played it for 4 years. I used to get up at 3 in the morning and sneak down stairs and play until school started.. good times =p

My dad has been a huge MMORPG nerd for as long as I can remember so my first online game was Ultima Online back when I was in elementary school. I used to play it whenever I visited his house and he was at work.

      I played WC3.
I adore real time strats, I do. I'm just terrible at them.

After a while, I just stuck to the custom maps. LoaP, Alien infection games, Mini-game sets, Tower Defence, all fantastic.

Counter strike for me, when I was like 8. I logged in thinking how awesome I was going to be at it... I got destroyed. Runescape was my second love. Full rune and Dragon longsword FTW!

Guild Wars, i found it nice that it was free content. That's assuming you're only talking about on a computer... because if not then my first was Phantasy Star Universe for the 360, OMG i got so caught up in that game, i had 10 of my younger friends playing it and farming for me and i sold stuff at a discount, kinda like a black market, undercutting the game badly i also "married" 14 times for cash! I got a shit ton of cash every time from moderators that attended. Mind you it was over a period of a 2 years or more and not close together so they couldn't catch on.... But those days have passed. Now i only play MW2!!!

Starcraft. Best game ever. I wasn't that good at all, me and my friends were mostly playing on UMS. Aaaawh the ol' days! I remember having a clan and it was sooooo awesome. I was something like 8.

      This.

Starcraft was, and still is probably the best game ever made.... I mean, it's the only game I've ever seen with such unlimited possibilities to its editor thats easily learned and usable by its entire user-base, to make maps of any sort.... I always sucked at melee, so as soon as I discovered UMS I never looked back, and quickly formed a couple of different clans, usually based on Final Fantasy for whatever reason....

Those were some good, care-free days.... Now I just can't wait for Starcraft II. The new editor is 1000x sicker than the last one, and really capitalizes on the fact that you can really create games of any sort now.

Half-Life 1998, a week after its release, after I beat the SinglePlayer mode I got into HL deathmatch quite a bit.

It was quite an incredible experience 11 years ago.

I had never played anything before TF2... I made the mistake of joining a 100% crits 2fort server and going sniper... good times.
And now.. for a Stephen Strutmeyer Film...
