      Movie Recommendations

Hey guys, I enjoy watching films, especially philosophical / psychological genres. I was wondering if any of you have any movies to recommend, we could possibly share our favorite movies. If you have any genres that appeal to you and are looking for a film to watch, I can also recommend some.

      "MementoMori, the lucid machine"

"There's nothing better than knowing what it's like to fly like superman. Being fully aware of the air whipping by you, controlling every movement of every single atom in your body with a single thought. It's real freedom, and there's not a word good enough to describe it, so I'll just call it dreamy for now."

If you want something more obscure than you've ever seen, look for Eraserhead.

The most bizarre and metaphorically artistic movie I've seen.

      Saw it in a cinema.

Was good. Rewatching at home nowhere near as atmospherically claustrophobic and paranoia-inducing.

It was for me because I watched it in a dark basement with nobody home except the friend I watched it with at one in the morning. Still, I would have loved to have seen it in theatres.

Another extremely... err, "curious movie" would be Visitor Q. You just sort of have to watch it to understand how incredibly weird it is. Almost comically weird.

Badd answer. Alot of the stuff in this movie is fabricated, and alot of the scientists portrayed in it were cut out of context and stuff. There's been a shitton of complaints and controversy about how this movie pushes it's own cult agenda at the expense of the actual truth. it's baddd.

As far as my recommendations for philosophical or psychological movies go:

      Lost Highway
      Mulholland Drive
      Fargo
      The Big Lebowski
      Primer
      INLAND EMPIRE
      The Thin Red Line
      Burn After Reading
      Being John Malkovich
      Adaptation
      Synecdoche, New York
      Pi
      Requiem For A Dream
      Blade Runner
      The Truman Show
      Kids
      Memento
      Wild Strawberries
Any of "The faith trilogy" by Ingmar Bergman
      Apocalypse Now
      The Seventh Seal
      Groundhog Day
      Run, Lola, Run
      A Man for all Seasons
      La Strada
      American History X
      2001: A Space Odyssey
      12 Monkeys
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
      Brazil
      Amelie
      Solaris
      STALKER
      Trainspotting
      Jacob's Ladder
      Session 9
      American Beauty
      Taxi Driver
      A Clockwork Orange
      Donnie Darko
      The New World
      Days Of Heaven
      Oldboy
      A Bittersweet Life
      Sympathy for Lady Vengeance
      Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
      Faust[Oldest version you can find]
      The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
      Hamlet [all versions are decent]
      Jean De Florette
      Manon De Sources
      Annie Hall
      The Unforgiven
      High Noon
      Blue Velvet [real hard going]
Three Colors: Red White and Blue [this is three seperate movies]
Grave of the Fireflies [I NEARLY WEEPED AT THIS]
      Lawrence of Arabia
      Lost in Translation
      Inherit the Wind
Rambo: First Blood [This is a highly existentialist movie, believe it or not]
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

I can't think of too many more off the top of my head, but this list should keep you going for a good while.

I can guarantee all of these movies are really very good, in my humble opinion.

If you want some more, ask.

Yeah, most of it is very misleading i agree, but there are a few bits and pieces one can find intriguing if you can keep a knowledgeable mind whilst watching it. Mostly it's the physics that's effed in it, they make radical unproven claims, and some truly shitty references to other philosophies... you know what, just avoid it overall deathxel, lol that's the better suggestion that or take the movie with a teaspoon of salt.

Yes. When it's that hard to sift the shit from actual fact it's probably not worth the time.

      That list is incredible Carou.

      Jean De Florette
      Manon De Sources
These two slightly surprise me. I liked them, though they were generally very sad movies.

Those that haven't already been mentioned.
Garden State, 12 Angry Men, Let The Right One In.

They're sad but they have some pretty strong philosophical themes, which the OP asked for.

Carôusoul, we have quite similar tastes, I'd say.

I just saw 'Everything is illumniated', off of the novel by Jonathan Safran Foer
      and liked it.

A few days ago I saw Anthony Hopkin's 'Slipstream'. Somewhere I read
the comment 'like Mullholland drive on pcp', which fits quite well, I'd say.

For the artistic ones I'd recommend Akira Kurosawa's 'Dreams'.

And if you want to feel good in the end of the day, watch 'Amelie'.

This off the top of my head.

Well, most of the movies I was going to recommend have already been recommended!

David Lynch is an imperative; I'll just add Phone Booth, Lucky Number Slevin, A Beautiful Mind.
Come on! What if Martin Luther King said: "I kinda have a dream... nah, I don't wanna talk about it."
