Thread: Halo: Reach

Beta is good fun, but it takes a lot of getting used to. Gameplay is slower than Halo 3.

(If you're wondering how I got in, I got a direct invite from Bungie. And yes I am well aware of how many people make such claims on the Internet and how unbelievable that sounds. However in my case, it is actually true)

Lucky you! Were you one of the last Halo 2 players who all got codes? Or gaming press?

Nope, H2 codes go out today. I'm definitely not part of the gaming press (or one of the people who pretended to be part of one to get a code off MS like a lot of people did this weekend).

Basically every Bungie employee got a few codes of their own to give out and I got one off my contact for years of networking feedback

I'm awaiting the moment for my brother to get back into town and me and him are going to throw down on some sweet beta. I'm not a hardcore gamer (anymore)
but i still love my favs (CoD4MW, MW2, ME 1&2, and the Halo universe). Reach is going to be the last game made in the series, and by far the absolute best. The graphic are bumped up regarding lighting and texturing. The game play is so much more overall bad ass. You have the new game types, head hunter being my fav of the new, and you also have the jet packs. The Elite's (alien not player skill) in multi-player have the ability to dive and roll out of the line of fire called 'Evading'.

Trust me, you'll not be disappointed with the weapons at all, for the weapons they removed they replaced with equally awesome ones. Notably the needler rifle.

The armor in multi-player is also now even more customizable, as well as have accompanying abilities attached to them such as: Cloaking, Speed burst, Momentary Invincibility, jet packs and others.

You're also given the ability to sneak up on an opponent and assassinate them using a knife, real stealth kills.

Basically Bungie has 1+ everything about Halo multi-player and went out with a helluva bang. This will be one of the best online multi-player experiences of the year, possibly the next couple.

(though i still wouldn't take reach over my sweet MW2, they almost tie)

WOW.

I love this new game. The graphics are beautiful, the gameplay fresh yet familiar, the ranking system seems a lot better to me, playing with randoms isn't a bad experience, and the loadout idea is not bad at all. Although the clear favorites are Stalker and Jetpack, they are not overpowered. With an uncluttered HUD, this is on the level of Halo CE.

Seriously, it may surpass Halo CE.

If they follow through on their Campaign and diversify the Multiplayer, we may have a game of the year here.

I've only played two games of SWAT (which I am a beast at), but I'm too hungover to enjoy it properly right now so I'll give my verdict later.

Actually, SWAT works quite well with the DMR. It requires a little more precision but you can still try to fill them with lead. The Focus Rifle scares me a little.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far. Here's my stats. I love all the armor abilities, maybe except armor lock, which I always forget to use. Some good times have been had with stalker.

I'm a little concerned about the effectiveness of the DMR/needle rifle. I've found that it's pretty ineffective at a longer range (even if you fire accurately). If it's the kind of situation where 'nades won't hit and you're on your own, you've got a problem. The shots don't do much damage, and you only get three or four off by the time your target has sprinted behind cover. Maybe I just miss the pwnage of the BR! On the other hand, the pistol is sweet. And the assault rifle has become godly!

I'm going to try and post a saved film of my best moment so far. It wouldn't let me upload it to the file share because it doesn't allow the word "rape", and now I can't figure out how to rename it. ^^ anyway, that sentence will only be there till I've posted the clip.
EDIT: Damn. Apparently it's a bug and there is currently no way to do it.

I have an incredible Triple Kill that I'm going to upload. Ninja, melee, and a snipe.

Nice stats! I got my first overkill earlier, but it's not really worth uploading, I was whoring rockets.

I take back what I said about the DMR/Needle Rifle. They own in invasion matches! Picking off some foolish elite who's never heard of cover is quite satisfying.

I am legitimately excited by this game. The maps we've seen so far are good, Invasion is a hell of a lot of fun, and they're fixing their mistakes.
