Ok, fair enough, but I still say that not everything is possible in a dream where there are more than one person creating the rules.

I'll be seeig this as soon as I get back from North Carolina. My only concern with it is that it would spread a lot of misconceptions about dreams. Does it seems like that kind of thing to you guys?
i think the idea was that it didn't matter, reality cannot be "real" anyway so if you're happy and ignorant... but if i had to give an answer i'd say i think it does drop... grrr maybe not though, he was being chased by a corporation for failing a job that was created as a test to begin with... my wife thought it could be one big loop, like a constant dream...
INCEPTION WAS SOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!!!! So many salvia flashbacks! I had the most amazing dreams last night! I was in too big of a hurry to get out the door this morning so I didn't write them down and now can't remember them but I remember the overall feeling and it was very much the same as the movie.
At the end we get the idea that he's still dreaming because the top keeps spinning (something not possible in real life) right? Also when he and Mal were in the limbo for 50 years she locked away her totem to trick herself into thinking that world was real. So Cobb found what she hid away and instead of taking it out and showing her that she was not in reality he just told her they were not in reality? How is that inception? She was chosing to believe this was reality so when he had them kill themselves to get back to reality she still believed it was a dream? Couldn't she have just tested her totem? I don't think totems would work in real lucid dreaming, because my mind would make the top topple and i'd convince myself i was awake.
Craziness, and yes i'll have to watch it again.
I think why they didn't just fly away or turn to monsters to defend themselves is because
#1 they were in someone else's dream, and that's why someone else's subconscious attacking them something we, as lucid dreamers, could never experience because dream sharing, as far as I know is science fiction
#2 if they did alter "reality" too much the "dreamer" would become lucid or wake up and the inception wouldn't work they had to play along to get Fischer to come up with the idea on his own
Also remember they're using strong sedatives and "dream sharing" with some fancy technology developed by the military, so they're not actually "lucid dreaming" as we know. Because of the strong seditaves they couldn't die to wake up, but instead would go "deeper" into "limbo"
Whoa, lacerup, you can edit your post you know. "Edit post" button at the bottom of the post. Use it in future. :P
this forum is set up differently than others I'm used to. I can't see who's replied to what unless there's quotes and then when I try to relply to individual posts they all just show up at the bottom with no way to see who I'm replying to, so it just looks like I'm posting radomly over and over. I'll just keep my mouth shut from now on other than my dj
the reason that saito was injuered in the dream was due to the sedatives that were administered by the Chemist. it had to be so strong that they wouldnt wake up, they had to be so out that they could go three levels deep. even if you died, due to the sedatives, you wouldnt wake up.
another part that has me thinking is when Dom and Mal were lying on the train tracks to die and wake up in the real world. they died, woke up.... but they were not connected to the Dream Machine. they were just laying on the floor. that makes me wonder if they (or just Dom) were ever out of limbo.
This is why people do things like this. Quote part of the message.
I don't know what kind of forum you've been on, but if it really is that much different, then just get used to this... you'll be fine then.Quote:

But also,
I've never seen a forum that doesn't do it that way.Quote:

That's why you use quotes, or you address them by their name, or whatever.
I'm on a knitting forum and on there I can see how many replies on each comment and who replied. Also when someone replies to a comment I posted I get a note and they flag the post so I can read it and reply back. Also when I reply it immediately goes right under the post i'm replying to, but then eventually posts at the end, but it still references the post I'm replying to.
so maybe I'm spoiled and just need to get used to this way
Oh, that's fancy.
But yea, try to get used to it. You benefit a lot from posting in DV (In on-topic, anyways :P)
I love Chris Nolan this was an awesome move
also the totem Idea sounds great (the top, the loaded die, ect.
Totems are a terrible idea. they don't prove that you aren't dreaming, they just prove that you aren't in someone else's dream... which is still just as impossible as it was before this movie came out.
The bottom line is that this movie does not even show what a normal dream is like, let alone a lucid dream. The dreaming was just a plot device. The Matrix was much better showing what a lucid dream is like, and it wasn't even about lucid dreaming.
The movie may have been entertaining, that is another matter, but still, I would not see it again.
I would not recommend this movie as an example of what lucid dreaming is like to someone who has never had a lucid dream. I would recommend the Matrix.
ya, I'm really thankful for this movie introducing a bunch of new minds to lucid dreaming, but it also starts people out with misconceptions. Which is sad.
That said, the movie was still an awesome watch.
Well in any case, metcalf raised a really good point (possibly in a different thread... there are so many now), which was that the totems only assure you that you're not in somebody else's dream. So regardless of what the top did at the end, it's possible that he's in a dream of his own making the entire movie, possibly even in "limbo." I tend not to think that this is the case but I have to admit that it's certainly a possibility.
I felt it was a great movie, suspenseful and all.
The only things I didn't like were how the DCs acted, and how they were unable to be controlled as in a real lucid dream. I also kept waiting for them to do reality checks, but all they had was those totems.
And I loved the ending.
Spoiler for ending:
I just saw this movie... what did you guys think about it. very interesting and got me even more excited about lucid dreaming. although now i'm finding it a bit of a scary idea :P
inception was an amazing movie, however the rules tht apply to the dreams in inception r not accurate. for example, it has been scientlifically proven that there is not much of a difference in the time between dreams and reality
It was an amazing movie.. but just a movie (unfortunately) :(
Yeah it was definitely and amazing movie and is up there for me, but a lot of things in that movie aren't true. The most obvious like going into a dream limbo for decades if you die in a dream.
Inception was definitely a fun movie! It was based on a book, right? I must find that book and read it, I'm sure it's amazing.
Obviously it's a movie/fiction and not real... but I was impressed by their interpretation of dreams and lucidity and how they presented these things. When they're in the dream worlds and they are able to adjust things in the world... it's beautiful! The fluidity of the changes and the visuals were both awesome. And for anyone who has ever controlled a dream or created while in a dream, some parts of this movie may have felt familiar. I was happy when they showed someone changing form, as that would be such a basic thing to do if they are really that advanced. And I was happy when the one guy pulled a bigger gun "out of the air" through pure creation. Why not? They could have had a bloody tank if they were that concerned, but I realize they had to be careful of upsetting the subconcious of the dreamer. And honestly, that's not too far off of reality, in my experience. If I am lucid and start running things the way I want, I have to be careful not to "shock" myself awake. That's generally only when I'm in a mid-lucid state instead of full.
I like the view of the subconcious-controlled NPCs (non player characters) and how they would turn on something they weren't "programmed" to understand/ignore/welcome. I have experienced similar. I have had dream NPCs turn on me when I go against what they think is the norm. It's fun! lol!
For me, time is definitely variable in the dream world. It isn't as structured as they show in the movie, but they certainly couldn't have pulled off all their very-timed moves without that mechanic, so it works.
I kept wishing they would do more.. like if they were in danger, warp away.. or whatever.. But I realize that to make well flowing movie you have to have certain rules (if they could just warp in, make a bazooka, and blow all the enemies up... what would they do to fill the movie-time up? lol).
All in all I'd say it's a fun and inspiring movie but definitely dangerous for those who are very suggestable and don't yet know what is really possible and what is just fiction.
But hey.. if it brings more awareness to lucid dreaming and the dream world in general, I'm all for it! It's been a passion of mine my whole life and I'm very excited to see so many others paying attention to it as well.
