I also think the practice of allowing the government to shepherd you through life - without questioning the motives and ethics of those in power - is quite possibly the most damaging "mind virus" to ever be implanted on the people of this nation. People have the right to question any and all actions of their government (and/or its military, for that matter). This kind of "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil (if it has to do with government)" ideology has more to do with manipulation than patriotism. Even if 9/11 was neither an inside job, nor allowed to happen, to discourage people from looking over the incident - and surrounding factors - themselves is basically akin to saying: "Thinking for yourself hurts your country. Sit down, shut up, and let your government think for you." It is a stance of Nationalism over the quest for truth, and just not something I will ever endorse.
Just my two cents, but I could see how his position would irritate someone with your perspective.
