Ok, this made me think "WTF??". I didn't read much of the last part, but as for education "bombarding" school kids with homosexual references, I think it's BS. When are you going to find a question in maths related to homosexuality? There's probably a 1:100 chance. Are males not allowed to take the leading role in parenting? GAH!!

There's also stuff on religioun and drugs as well, but I didn't read much of that. This isn't usually my thing, but once I saw I got a little angry. I'm focusing on the school part though, since I'm in S4 (aka grade 11? I think?) in highschool and I have to say, in maths, science and geography I am not bombarded with homosexuality. The questions relate to everything. Race, gender, favourite type of food.... Why not homosexuality? If I got an exam paper, and it asked something like "what percentage of homosexuals move to the city?" with a pie chart, I wouldn't think "OMG! HOMOSEXUALITY!? What?? Help!? I'm overwhelmed! WHAT IS THIS??" *brainwashed*.

Getting these questions shouldn't matter. I've known what being gay is for as long as I can remember. Along with sex, abortion, pregnancy, death... And I couldn't care less if my teacher comes up to me and asks what a bloody seahorses parenting role is.

Ahh.... Maybe I'm getting this all wrong, as this isn't my thing as I've said. Maybe there's something between the lines. But whatever, the way it comes across to me is that she's being rediculous.

What are your thoughts?

Anything that mentions "the gay agenda" is the first few sentences is not a legitimate argument.

Then shouldn't children be barred from seeing or hearing heterosexual references as well? It's not like simply telling a kid that it's possible for a person to be attracted to someone of their own gender will turn them gay.

It's not like teachers are telling students to go out and have sex with someone of their own gender, they're simply telling them that there's nothing unnatural about a man to falling in love with another man or a woman falling in love with another woman.

Hetrosexual is the natural course humans have been taking since thier appearance (exceptions are presence). I think you will find a lot of younger girls tend to want to live with their best friend when they're older, in a 1990's education environment they will earn that's not normal, and will both fund boyfriends and Have kids. However in our education they will be told it is perfectly normal to be together, they will then sexually experiment together and most likely then live together. What's wrong with that you ask? Homosexuals carry more diseases then strait people. In the 1980's 100 people in my state where killed because a gays were giving blood and giving the patient diseases. Gays are now banned from giving blood where i live. STI's are a lot more common in the gay/Lesbian community, have you told the kids that as well?

This is hardly an argument for anything. Kids are not being told to be gay, kids are told that being gay is okay. Basically somebody estimated that a lot of people walk around being miserable, because they have to stay in the closet, in order to conform to the norm and all that. We also have a lot of people who are making the lives of homosexuals miserable. These two things have to be handled in some way, and the simplest way is awareness.
Additionally, the idea that STDs transfer more easily between homosexuals is stupid. An STD is just as likely to transfer between a heterosexual couple as a homosexual couple. It depends on the way they're doing it, to be blunt.

Seems a bit weird to me. We never covered race distribution in the UK in Geography for example so I don't see why we'd cover 'gay distribution'. And I can't imagine any way to wheedle this into an exam question without it seeming ridiculous any more than an exam question on the median musical taste of black people would seem ridiculous, and indeed encouraging stereotyping.

I absolutely agree with this, but then the US is a special case. They are particularly far behind in the tolerance department, compared to the rest of the western world. Rising awareness at a fundamental level is a great idea, though they're probably taking the wrong approach.

Non sequitur fallacy. You see female roommates living together all the damn time. Literally tens of thousands in university systems alone. They view it as perfectly normal to live together, but do the vast majority of them sexually experiment with each other? No. If they do, then so what? And if they do, then they aren't having sex with anything they aren't already attracted to. Living together with someone of the same gender will not make you gay.

Homosexuals and heterosexuals are equally susceptible to STD's. Improving education on STD's and homosexuality is one way to cut back and prevent them. This is no reason, at all, why you or anyone else should "discourage" homosexuality. By the way, how exactly do you plan to discourage them? Bullying? Teasing? Shunning them from social circles until they act straight? Use their orientation as a basis for job selection (read: discrimination)? Fucking up their lives so bad that they commit suicide? And whose fault is that? The gay people, who were unaware of their diseases and were only trying to help, or the people who drew the blood without any tests? A straight person could have just as easily given contaminated fluids, and it does happen. And again, what the hell does frequency of STI's have anything to do with this? There are treatments and protections available. If you're going to use STI's as any sort of argument for your position, then all sex should be discouraged/banned because there will always be a risk, no matter who your partner is. Jesus Christ. Perhaps instead of treating a minority like shit, you should help build them up and actually help them.

If you know anyone with this perspective, I would encourage you to encourage them to sit down and make an effort to understand evolutionary biology. It sound's like a profound misunderstanding of it to me.

In order for survival of the species enough of them to sustain the population have to reproduce. Not all of them. I'll bet there are a lot more childless straight people out there then there are homosexuals. I don't plan on ever having children.

"Species" surviving has very little to do with evolution so I don't know why you're even bringing it up. The replicators in question are genes. So if you do want to say that an organism has a "purpose", it is most emphatically not to continue the "species" (This is one of the largest misconceptions concerning evolution and is specifically the one that I was referring to. It's funny to see you walk right into it.) but to create as many copies of the alleles of the genes that it is acting as a "replication device" for as possible. So there are all sorts of ways that an organism can cause the replication of its "passenger" genes without reproducing. Look at kin selection. It's not clear that this provides an explanation of homosexuality, so if you're looking to say that homosexuality is "okay" from an evolutionary perspective, you might be disappointed. It came up on another thread that the only other species in which we've observed true homosexuality rather than bisexuality is sheep. So it could be that it's a bad move for a gene to cause it.

But that's all besides the point. The real point (and the point that I think that Aquanina was trying to make) is "Why should we give a fuck if we exist because we help genes replicate themselves? How does that make it \"our\" purpose to have offspring?" Saying that our purpose is to spread our genes is just falling into the naturalistic fallacy.

I don't care whether it's something to do with genes or not. Homosexuals are still people, and therefore should be given the respect they deserve. Who they love and what they do in their bedrooms is not any of my business, and they are certainly not causing any hurt to me. So why should I discriminate them? I just think that homophobic people need to get with the times.

And the only thing in my subjects that I'll be worried about is my exam results and whether I can understand parabolas (which I can't. Grr... :P )

OK, personally, I am against moves to promote homosexuality, or to show that it is natural, but I will go ahead and give a further opinion.

Even as an anti-gay person, I still think they are making a semi-smart move. I don't think that people should be gay, I do not feel that it is natural or that we should do it, but I think that gay people shouldn't be discriminated or denied services that normal people have. They're people, so they should have the same rights as us. But I don't think it should be promoted as natural or OK, as it can easily spread around as the new cool thing, which can screw with birth rates and such, even with artificial insemination.

Less and less people are having kids, and when homosexuality becomes dominant (which I doubt it will), it will make it even less common since accidental pregnancies can't occur. With less population... well, with our current dilemma, it would be a good thing, but it would quickly turn worse. As the years go by without children, there will be less people to replace them each generation, so eventually our population may drop to a very low rate. You can see how that may turn into a problem.

Also, a point I missed: gays adopting children. I don't think so. As I said earlier, I think that gay behavior shouldn't be promoted, and this will obviously promote it on an indirect level, as the children will learn it from them, and continue many problems to come. I just disagree with any moves to promote homosexuality, but I am OK with people trying to stop discrimination and give them equal rights (yes, call me a hypocrite for the adoption thing, but I still stand by it).

I think it would be OK to put some kind of gay statistics/facts in social studies, math, or whatever, as long as it isn't overdone and doesn't promote it.

you seem to be using the word "natural" here. I've heard a couple definitions, but the most commonly accepted is "found in nature". I'm not going to bring up the usual arguments, such as the one that other species have been shown to be homo/bi-sexual at times. Instead, I want to ask you how YOU define natural? not-human? are humans somehow separate from nature? how silly is that thought-process?

Personally I don't think it would ever spread around as the "new cool thing". I think that being gay is something you are born as. It's always there. You either like the same sex or you don't. I really don't think that many people at all would sit and think "hmmm... well there's quite a few people becoming gay now so I guess I should too...". Maybe there would be some lesbian action during a drunken game of spin the bottle, but that's about as far as it would go I think.

I also think that it should be promoted as ok, because it really saddens me to think of people too frightened to tell other people about something that is just part of them, incase they are discriminated. I dunno... Like you are given chocolate milk and strawberry milk, and although you really really want the strawberry milk and can't stand the taste of the chocolate milk, you must drink the chocolate milk because otherwise people will hurt you, mentally or physically. And the your whole life, while you live off of chocolate milk, the strawberry milk is right there, in the fridge, staring at you in all it's pink, creamy glory!

(I am currently drinking chocolate milk. A literal glass of chocolate milk.)

Also, homosexuals really are a minority compared to hetrosexuals. I doubt that the birth rate will drop to the rate you describe just because more people are accepting homosexuals. The birth rate is getting higher, what with medicine and such.

If straight couples can raise gay children, can gay couples not raise straight children? If being striaght truely is "natural" then what does it matter? Because then, homosexuality would stick to a minority, and therefore we have nothing to worry about.

But I'm glad you don't discriminate people just because of which sex they are attracted to, which let's face it, we can't help who we love, right?

Oh yeah, and my dog (who is male, and the cutest thing ever xD) tries to hump males instead of females so I guess it is found in nature :P

FYI, approximately 1-3% of the US population is estimated to be openly gay. People can't just magically turn gay. It doesn't work that way. What you're proposing is a massive, unified shift in sexual orientation. This is simply impossible. To prove it, I offer you a test. Sit down, and contemplate another man. Now tell me...do you feel ANY sexual attraction for this man? No? So what makes you think anyone else is so different? People don't just wake up and go "Oh, I think I'll be gay today."

Holy slippery slope, Batman! This is quite the extreme leap from saying something is okay to assuming it will become hugely mainstream. And what's wrong with a declining birth rate, anyway? It happens in all modern societies. Japan, which is far more punishing of homosexuality than America, has an astoundingly low birth rate compared to America. Gay people aren't going to be responsible for any significant decline. They aren't going to become 97%+ of the population, leaving only 3% of breeding Americans. :facepalm: It has been shown, time and again, that being raised by gay parents doesn't automatically make you gay. Doesn't even improve your odds of being gay. Now consider the stressed adoption system in place already. We need parents, and gay people are just as competent at parenting as straight people.
Let's go back to artificial insemination a moment. What if a lesbian couple have a baby? Are you going to take it away from them, for fear it may turn out gay? You treat homosexuality as some sort of disease.

1) People are influenced by their surroundings. Let's use smoking pot to help me explain this. Well, it's possible to start on your own, but many people start because of peer pressure and people recommending it to them. Smoking pot is considered cool nowadays (that is, among the people not associated with the law), and since people want to be cool, they will do what the smokers do. It's the same thing. People become gay, they are seen as cool because they are gay, people want to mimic them to become cool, so they become gay. How can it not be spread around in this manner?

2) So, are you saying that people should become gay? I think you are trying to say we should accept them into society, and I agree, but I also think they should be encouraged to become straight or asexual.

3) Please read my previous argument. And I didn't say it would be because homosexuals are accepted, I'm saying it's occurring in an imagined situation where most people are gay.

Yes, they are influenced to an extent. But smoking pot is not something you are born as, but something you can do on and off. You are not gay if you just follow a crowd. That is just gay-action until you eventually stop, which if you are straight you will, because you are straight. If all my friends suddenly turned to me and said they were all gay, would that make me gay? No. Would that make you gay? Probably not.

And by the time there is any peer pressure on a young generation (say teens like myself) to become gay, I'm sure that they will have already felt some attraction to whichever sex they like already. The first boy I remember liking was when I was four, and continued until now. Maybe for gay people it takes longer, but highly doubt that being gay will ever become "cool" or people will follow just because of that.

Even if this were true, the burden of proof still rests upon your shoulders. To validate the claims you've been making, you must show that:
1. It is a behavior that can be actively taught and learned
2. It can override existing sexual orientation

What a ridiculous claim. Kindly prove it. Here is my last post explaining what you must prove for your argument to have any validity whatsoever. Until then, we'll go with the argument that has the best support: sexuality is something that cannot be changed as easily as you make it out to be. Not even close. There are factors at work (physical, genetic, etc) that are beyond the control of the individual, and begin either at birth or at a very young age. This is the best supported position to date, and it is the one that shall be used in all arguments until it can be disproved and replaced with a new argument, or modified to take into account new evidence.

Oh, and I should tack on a requirement:

Cause I pretty much agree with him on that one. Getting pregnant by letting some other guy blow his load in your ass is a huge problem. Happens all the time. It's a terrible way to reproduce. My gay roommate had to get an abortion just last week in fact. I highly recommend against reproducing by engaging in homosexual acts.

I think that the people who worry that if they try gay sex that they will like it and become gay, must be somewhat gay. Speaking as a heterosexual, I have no desire to even try gay sex. There is no way that I will like it. If you think that someone can influence you to try gay sex, you are gay or bisexual. If you think that there is a possibility that you will like it and turn gay, you already are bisexual or gay. The only way someone can turn gay is if they are latently gay already, but haven't come out of the closet to themselves.

Every few weeks one or another of their friends are "gay" and in relationships then they switch back.
Several of their male friends even wear makeup. And we live in a VERY small town.
I drove home one such boy one evening. They had been hanging out at another friends house and my 15 yo put makeup on him.
After I dropped him off I couldn't help but ask: "Does his mom and dad live together... Is his dad around... is he going to get in trouble for wearing makeup?" Stereotypically, in my very limited experience, father figures tend to be much more sensitive to such things. Dad wasn't in the picture, completely, but was more accepting than mom. I think this has more to do with them being teenagers. There were a couple of girls in my class who went through a kind of lesbian phase, though I always got the impression that they did it to mess with other people's heads, rather than gain attention/actually being lesbian. According to their facebook profiles they're straight, but then, so am I. About boys wearing make-up, that's not really gay, that's just weird :P

I myself am 15, going on 16. I'm straight, and a few of my friends are gay or bi. But that doesn't make the rest of us think "that's cool" and then join in. A couple of girls I know have made out playing spin the bottle, but that's as far as it went. They're all on a hunt for boys actually. A bit of lesbian action doesn't make you a lesbian, just really drunk and looking for attention, especially since they plastered the photos all over facebook.

As for boys wearing make-up, I only know one guy (a good friend actually) who wears a bit of eyeliner, but to be honest he's a bit of a man-whore (with girls) so makeup doesn't make boys gay, it's just personal preference. He only ever wears it when playing gigs with his band.
