      Missing experiences?

Everybody is born with certain physical features that you can't really change. Do you sometimes feel like you're missing out on whatever feature you're missing? I mean, I don't think it should get you down or anything. I just sometimes wish I could experience things that I'll probably never be able to experience. This can also go for what you decide to do in life. One can't do everything one desires and through choosing what is most important to you, you can miss things. I know that I've wanted to be dozens of differing professions while growing up. I've had to choose one though so I can focus and achieve it.

What are some of the things you feel like you are missing? Maybe things that you wouldn't mind having a second life to accomplish or experience. (Luckily we even have lucid dreaming for this)

I know that I have often wanted to know what it is like to be a woman. I feel as though it would be fun to have sex with a guy, but only as a woman really. I'll never be a woman, so I'm defiantly going to miss out on this opportunity.

Yes, I get that with plenty of things. A couple years ago when I was deciding whether I wanted to go into computer programming (stable, easier, know I'm good at it, find it fun, fun to be a rare female in a male-dominated field) or some sort of biology field (more exciting, interesting, will find out amazing things about the world that most people don't know, probably less money, more difficult, not as stable). I felt at that time as though I was choosing between 2 roads in life. Whatever I chose would change the entire course of my life. (I chose the former).

For other things, yeah I've wondered what it would be like to be a male, more for interest reasons. Death is depressing, realizing I've missed out on experiences is just one of the many things resulting from the fact that we die that are depressing.

As they say, you can do anything you want, but not everything you want. Though who knows, maybe we will live forever and get to do all the things that we missed out on. I recently started studying engineering in school. My hopes is to eventually learn enough so that I can work on research on cutting edge technology, in an area(not sure which yet) that will result in longer lives. With all the cool and crazy things we can do, and the possible things that may appear in the future, it is just to tempting to pass up. I always thought, if you are not 100% sure there is an afterlife, you should work as a doctor or engineer and research trying to live forever hehe.

Hate to bring in religion lol, but Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the earth will eventually be rid of all wickedness and that "the meek shall inherit the earth". No hell, heaven limited to 144,000- earth is where righteous mankind will live and there will 'be no death and no sorrow'.
When a person has complete trust in such a system, it makes "yearnings" easier. I tell my kids to imagine all the things they could learn and accomplish when they have FOREVER to do it.

I don't tend to wonder what's on the other side of the fence- so to speak. I'm relatively happy with my lot in life. My dreams take care of anything else (I fly almost every night, I'm a super hero on occasion, I've faced the end of the world etc lol)

I used to want to be without anxiety. No that I am (about 90% of the time), I realize I'm denying myself. I'm more creative when I'm anxious- I skimp on sleep, my moods are more erratic. But having anxiety is hell, so I sacrifice my creative side.

With one experience, one must sacrifice another... I've found a pleasant balance for now

Being a Jehovah Witness and believing that heaven will only hold 144,000, wouldn't you want the least amount of people to join the church as possible? This is a question that I've wondered about.

Nope. The more the merrier Only a TINY fraction of JW's go to Heaven. The vast majority look forward to life on a perfect Earth. In 2008, during the Memorial of Christ's death, 17,790,631 attended (JW's and interested people). Only 9,986 people partook of the emblems (the bread and wine which indicates they go to heaven).

I've often wondered how food would taste in such a world. No pollutants, grown as large as they should, bursting with flavor. My son is the cook of the family and I've told him to imagine the dishes he could prepare

So as not to completely hijack the thread... when I was a kid, I wanted to live like the people from Swiss Family Robinson. I wanted to live in the Amazon Rain Forest. Every now and then, I wish I could escape- by myself- to the jungle and just experience it. I would like to explore Alaska too

Your post is completely irrelevant to the topic. Mine was too, but at least it was a constructive question that I was actually curious about.

I was just pointing out that religion was irrelevant to the topic. I didn't mean to offend anybody, you don't need to get so offensive. I don't think that was a very mature way to respond to my post.

You're right. Sorry I called you an ass.

I'm not religious I'm just tired of religious flaming occurring in every thread and her post was relevant. It had to do with the topic.

I dont think its healthy to ponder too much about the things you will never experience. Regardless I would love to experience the world before it was deflowered by industrial civilization. I am reminded of a quote by Pascal, "When I consider the short duration of my life, swallowed up in the eternity before and after, the little space which I fill, and even can see, engulfed in the infinite immensity of spaces of which I am ignorant, and which know me not, I am frightened, and am astonished at being here rather than there; for there is no reason why here rather than there, why now rather than then." I think we should appreciate the time and place we were "thrown into" after all it might be for a reason.

      Awesome quote StormCrow!

When I was a kid I was CERTAIN I actually lived in another time that was more like the world of Dragon Lance. My best friend at the time and I actually had a ceremony one evening to help us switch over. We woke up VERY disappointed
When I was a kid I was actually almost obsessed with the idea of "missing experiences". Maybe that's why I'm so content now-a-days.
