Legalize marijuana and tax and regulate it like alcohol to be sure. As for the hard drugs, I agree with you, keep them illegal. But they should be decriminalized, and available through government funded rehabilitation programs. Make it so that the drug money is taken out of the hands of organized crime and into the hands of the people, but also make it so that the addicts get the treatment they need in order to become sober, instead of throwing them into prisons where their habits can only become worse. Just as surely as the repercussions of prohibition are an increase in crime, homelessness, drug use, government spending, mental illness and disease, the implementation of decriminalization, regulation and treatment of abused drugs and their users would be the opposite. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
