Unhappy Are Kids Growing Up Too Fast?

So I was on Youtube recently, and one of the channels I'm subscribed to (CupOfTeamOfficial) done a video about the recent song by Jenna Rose (who's 12, by the way) called O.M.G. Here's the song *shudders*:

I think describing a twelve year old as a "Teen Boom Boom Doll" and then getting her to sing and dance provocatively is just... Shockingly bad. Really? Where's this girls parents? I can't imagine myself doing something like that and I'm almost sixteen, which is the legal age in the U.K for marriage and sex.

      Here's the video by CupOfTeam:

So I have to ask... Do you think kids in todays society are growing up too fast? If so, what do you think is causing this?

Do you call imitation growing up? Do you think a culture that has kids imitate false values is a culture that has grown up?

And, more pathetically, is it right that children set the standards of human behavior and endeavor?

Meh. I don't really care, or really think it matters. I think I turned out alright, and I've pretty much grown up in the same generation. In fact, I think most kids are doing pretty much okay, but of course, only the extreme sides of the spectrum get any attention. Anyways, it's typical for the older generation to constantly condemn/worry about younger generations because they see the way they grew up as the only correct way. Not saying you're older generation of course-- you're younger than I am, but I'm just saying characterizing all kids nowadays by this song is too much of a generalization. Most kids I've met now are pretty much the same as I was as a kid, not like supersluts or justin biebers or anything. They just have different music/shows/etc. People used to say the same kinds of things about Britney Spears-- "What is our youth coming to?!?" Nothing, the same things as always. Rebellion is the nature of youth. They did it in the 60s, the 80s we're bringing it back in the 2000s. No surprise.

I have to disagree. I am a couple days older than that.

If you understand what learning is, you have to understand that learning is the acquisition of ability to do. We abstract from those things we have learned to do. Craft is disappearing, and along with it, man's understanding of behavior. He is becoming more of a mass man.

Perception determines conception, conception determines will. With the loss of perception is a commensurate loss of will.

Factories are failing in America, because some smart ass decided that someone who has machined nothing more than a pencil should understand and run factories.

Do you really believe that an education is the ability to memorize and spout back empty words?

Sorry, what does this have to do with anything that I just wrote? Also, I'm getting the distinct impression that you're putting words into my mouth. When did I ever mention that "education is the ability to memorize and spout back empty words"? Really, your post seems somewhat hostile...

I was talking about kids "growing up too fast" not about education or factories in America. Though, if you want to get into semantics and call learning through media example education go right ahead, but I won't argue over it with you.

      Either way, little confused. =/

You said kids were growing up okay. This does have implications of validating the current educational model.

On the other hand, people are not okay, not by a long shot.

Or, don't you understand that all education is for the express purpose of modifying human behavior towards a specific purpose?

I understand. Why are you so condescending? It's like you're trying to prove something. I have no argument against you. I was never even talking about the education system or anything to do with education. I already said I wouldn't argue over semantics of a definition. I don't see media as education, though it can be learning, that's how I see it.

I meant they are no worse from a cultural/moral standpoint than they were before. If you read the first post/watched one of the videos you would know that I'm referring to slutty-ish music today and the heightened sexual media directed toward young teens and kids. Although it certainly isn't great, it's not really any worse culturally than Led Zepplin and counter culture were. My point was that youth rebels culturally, and it doesn't mean they are somehow "growing up too fast" it just means they are doing what every other generation of teenagers does: rebel.

So, you know... chill out, man.

I am not the one hyperventilating.

      Okay...?

I wasn't competing? I wasn't calling you... extraordinary or outrageous or... anything, really. I was saying that the argument you're trying to have with me isn't valid, because it's based off of you criticizing points I didn't make.

I never claimed to be clever. I just either A. am not actually implying what you think I am implying, or B. You're going way over my head and are really not helping me see the connections with your cryptic one-liners.

Well, I've made my original point. I think I'm just spamming the topic now, so I'm going to stop. You can always message me if you want to carry on.

Kids are growing up way too fast. It's not their fault, though. It's the fault of people who see nothing wrong with it.

      Kids? Nah, they're fine.

I was watching that Jenna Rose video and, when my mom walked in the room, I quickly switched to the porn I had open in another tab to avoid a beating. Holy fuck.

That Cup of Team guy was hilarious.

I'm at a loss when it comes to youth. Are they growing up too quickly? I don't know. Hormones come into play by 13 (usually) and in ancient times, it was normal to get married and have a family by then. But life expectancy was shorter and quality of life (not to mention education) was poor for most.
According to current standards, as dictated by society, SOME kids tend to grow up too quickly. A combination of bad role models and not enough parental guidance are the likely culprits.
The young DO rebel though. It seems to be the natural order of things.

EDIT: What's strange is, while watching it, I didn't consider the lyrics to be provocative. I thought it was more like, a girl talking to other girls saying "you wish you could, but you can't be like this", meaning they can't be as good-looking as her. Superficially that's what the lyrics are saying, although I guess they could be reenterpreted, half subliminally. And the video itself is definitely provocative.
EDIT: I'll also add that I don't see a problem with 12 year old males finding 12 year old females hot.

I youtuber I watch sometimes, LaciGreen (I like her way of thinking but she's decided to aim toward a younger audience now, I don't know why I still watch her) did a video response to this too. (She has giant breasts...)

What exactly does it mean to be "grown up"? To be more jaded? To be more predictable? To be more sexual? Really, any adult form is "grown up". It's about growing into a form that hopefully has an overall positive impact on society.

Hrm. This girl lives in Hollywood. Judging from what I heard in the second video that was posted, she wants to be a star. She has well-developed sexual features, but she isn't star-level pretty. She clearly has no problem with being portrayed in a sexual way. She doesn't have any musical talent so her dreams about becoming a pop star are bound to be crushed by reality.... Fifty bucks says this girl becomes a porn star in the next ten years.

Gee, I hadn't noticed. :/ I was too interested in what she had to say and found her analysis of this video, and the slice of the youth-culture pie it represents, quite riveting. She raised some valid concerns, especially whe--- omg they just jiggled. =D

Hey Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Soulja Boy, etc, come look; this guy still believes talent matters in Hollywood. Ha!
      -----
There's no such thing as growing up "too fast;" the quicker you mature, the better. Pretending to be "grown up" by dancing around like a skank (not just referring to this video) is the problem, not actually being grown up. Savy's right about rebellion being a mainstay of youth, but the increasingly overt sexualzation of teens kids is disconcerting. Britney Spears had already hit puberty before she was asking us to hit her one more time; Jenna Rose (and the plethora of similar girls she serves as an example for) probably doesn't even know you can grow hair on your no-no areas; yet she's releasing stuff like... this. How can you not see anything wrong with that?

I used (a couple) big words so you know you should take this post seriously and nod in agreement. That's how these things work, isn't it?

I honestly don't think there's anything wrong with it...
I can't see what is so wrong about a young girl singing and dancing provocatively, if that's what she wants...

Now, if said girl was made to do that by others, then of course it's a problem, but for different reasons, and if there are no parents to support her, then of course that is bad aswell.

Kids are growing at the same rate as they always have been since we evolved in to homo sapiens.

They are pretending to be older earlier, and that's because of shit like this which gets put all over the TV for them to watch. And this kids in this shit are forced by their parents to pretend to be older. End of story. Do you really need a thread to figure this out?

Hah, Gavin, I thought about mentioning that :p

And to answer it seriously, it may have something to do with it, but there's nothing attractive about the video in OP for me at all. Hell, I don't even find this attractive, even though the girls are right in my age of attraction...
