      What's Your Phobia?

After seeing the SCARY STUFF thread, i decided to make this thread here. Do you have any phobias? Anyways, I do....

      HERE GOES

Arachnophobia OR the phobia of Insects (iunno which one )

I USED TO suffer from Insomnia Phobia (possibly one of the worst phobias as HAVING the phobia can give you Insomnia AND that you will suffer from it almost every moment of every day....) Luckily I cured it without therapy XD lol

Now, I'm not so sure about the third one but yeah. I have the phobia of wide open spaces with nothing in them. I searched it up on google and i found Agoraphobia and iunno i got like 5 definitions :O. EDIT: Either wide open spaces or being in open water

      __________________________________________________ _______

Anyways i found this and i thought this was um..... weird

Anatidaephobia - The fear, that some time, somewhere, some how, a duck is watching you...
      no offense to Anatidaephobia sufferers.

      What's Your Phobia?

THIS HAS BEEN EDITED O_O OMG

I had a crippling phobia of thunderstorms as a teenager. Still scared of them, but I get a nice adrenaline rush now that I rather enjoy. I'm pretty sure if I lived in the Midwest I would be a storm chaser.

I'm scared of spiders and the thought of being in a body of water with another large creature or object. I know it's stupid but it still creeps me out. When I was little I dreamt of swimming in a lake with some sort of sea serpent and I've been afraid ever since. =P

People that I don't live with seeing me when I'm at home unless they're there to visit me. I turn into a super stealth ninja. I've gone so far as to climb out my window to get away.

Drinking water out of a plastic cup. I just won't do it. I'll drink straight out of the faucet or just not drink water. Juice is fine out of a plastic cup.

Touching my teeth with my fingers or anything other than a toothbrush, floss, or my tongue. Fingers are the worst though. I just cannot do it. (edit: or food or drink, duh)

Anything touching my eyes other than my eyelids.

Oh man I think I know what you mean.

I don't get how people can just go for a swim in the ocean. Like there's got to be a huge man-eating-whale-shark-the-size-of-the-chrysler-building.

      Forget it XD

      Don't worry you wont.

I don't think I have a phobia necessarily but there are certain situations that I find myself being extremely uncomfortable in.
One of them is talking to cops. I don't like having to explain to people (especially old people) why I don't eat meat so now I just say I am allergic.
Another is being in a room full of people when suddenly some random girl asks me very loudly "why are you so quiet?" and the room goes silent with everyone looking at me...

Reading this thread I actually found a phobia that I have had my entire life and never knew.
I always thought it was just some sort of OCD thing when I had to have any person sitting next
to me or any object to my right side and the only thing to my left would be empty space or, preferably,
      a wall.

Sinistrophobia - The fear of objects at the left side of the body

      I also have:
Thanatophobia - Fear of death or dying
      Metathesiophobia - Fear of changes
Catagelophobia - Fear of being ridiculed
also a deep-seated fear of rejection which doesn't have a term

Most other things, I really don't mind

Well I could probably come up with a list of hundreds of things I dislike and 'fear' in a sense, like the dentist, sleeping in through an exam, accidentally using the same toothbrush as my brother, etc. but I've always thought the definition of a phobia is a fear that's irrational. By irrational, I mean it can't just be completely explained by fearing some consequence, there's something odd going on in the brain, some 'faulty wiring' that causes you to experience blind fear in response to something when you can't necessarily back up that fear with a good reason. Or maybe the fear evolved for a rational reason, but isn't psychologically caused by that reason. If the definition is just something you fear, I have hundreds, maybe thousands, so does everybody.

An example is fear of heights. It's rational to fear heights if you're in danger of falling to your death, but the reason it's considered a phobia is because people will continue to fear heights even if they're protected by a big railing and know they're completely fine. There's just something in the brain that gives us this fear response when we're high up enough.

Mine that I can think of right now would be fear of:
      - heights
      - spiders & some other bugs, mostly the long-legged ones like leather-jackets/mosquito-eaters
That's all. I don't have any odd fears.

Glad someone is clearing this up. A phobia is more than just a fear of something. It is a deep terror that is all out of proportion to the thing causing the fear. My thunderstorm phobia made it so I had to look out the window every ten minutes and watch the weather channel non-stop even on sunny days. If a storm actually hit I would hyperventilate and cry and lie down on the floor. Not fun at all.

Oh it's high school all over again. Fun, fun.

      "I don't know, I'm just quiet."
      "Wtf, why?!"
      *endless silence*
      *wide-eyed stares in your direction*
      "I don't know... D:"

Come to think of it, I'm afraid of large open spaces too. I can manage if there's some sort of break, like something jutting out of the ground; but if everything's flat and identical in each direction, I'll start to worry.

How does one even get into that situation? I've never seen a field that big.

Like a big empty room. And I don't mean everything's identical as far as the eye can see, just up until a certain distance.

I worded that poorly and I'm not sure how to put it better so ignore that bit. xD Pretty much just a large, flat expanse.

A phobia (from the Greek: φόβος,phóbos, meaning "fear" or "morbid fear") is an irrational, intense and persistent fear of certain situations, activities, things, animals, or people. Wikipedia.

Often what is termed an irrational fear is often quite the reverse. For example, homophobia is used today as a derrogatory statement, irrespective of fact. So, it is kind of pointless to speak about things when no one will agree as to the meaning of terms.

The simple dislike for a thing, or the simple fear of a thing is not, by definition, a phobia.

I am not afraid of my insanity, I fear never attaining to sanity. Insanity is a given.

I have emetophobia (fear of vomiting)
I also have a fear of mannequins made to look lifelike (example, in a museum)
I also have a fear of anything being laid on my neck or chest, fear of large spiders, deep bodies of water and gaps between rocks. Also, rust and rusty nails.
      Top 5 Lucid goals:
[ ] Let it snow! [ ] Throw a fireball. [ ] Meet my characters and speak to them. [ ] Run as fast as Nat. [ ] Save the world.

Spaces which are hard to escape, crowds, sort of heights although i like the adrenaline rush, bugs, people being behind me (so much i taught myself sound tracking and identifying, i recognise peoples footsteps as them) and losing contro of my own body (yes, driking is a no for me even when i get old enough)
