Excuse the ultrabook at the start, I was wondering why that would be there and then I realised that is explained by the note at the end of the article that says it was "brought to you by Intel".

Which ones are you most excited for?

I think 3D printing, laser healers, the wooly mammoth "rebirth" and the Eye of Gaia telescope will be the most exciting. The sustainable cities, solar planes and electronic paper will be the best in terms of not destroying the environment.

Mainstream space tourism, Eye of Gaia, $100 DNA sequencing. Crash-proof cars would be great as well.

hahaha Well, that would be great! I'm sure it'll come soon enough. I'm personally just hoping a seed company goes and gets the high CBD level Cannabis from Kazakhstan.

One of the "Technical skills" schools in the area has a 3D printer; it's really neat. The sustainable city will be a huge step into finally saving the planet (although it may be too late by then. We've already rendered so many resources unusable after consumption and improper disposal.)

Once the Age of Silicon comes to an end (early 2020's), we might have a few speedbumps until quantum computing is made efficiently enough to become mass-produced.

Undoubtedly people will become even more reliant on technology, which will require us to redefine "human" or drop the idea of being "human" all together. Which is a shame, because sometimes people seem to underestimate their own potential. We better hope solar storms don't cause major EMP's because that would definitely slow down society a bit (it would even now.)

I heard that some astronomers are working on a warning system for solar flares. So they can shut off power before they hit.

Well then, there you go! Although people who are hooked up seriously into "the grid" (internet/communications servers) would have to deal with a little downtime if power were out intentionally.

I heard on the radio that 1 in 5 cell phones has diseases that are only found in fecal matter on them... And people were calling in saying how often they use their phone on the toilet. Long story short: People are disgusting, they rely too much on technology, and I'm never borrowing a cell phone ever again.

HAH! I was just saying this about how disgusting it is to use a laptop on the toilet because it gets bacteria/shit particles all over it. And someone basically called me a moron because people don't wipe their arse with their laptops or something.

I agree, sometimes my mum and brother will be watching TV, while using their phones to look at the internet or something. I'm like "you can't be paying attention to both, it's impossible" and they come up with some faulty, pathetic rationalisation for it. When the real reason is that they can't even take two seconds out to think about something. They always HAVE to be "connected" or "plugged in".

And yeah, I never like to borrow phones or anything like that, coz I know how unhygienic most people are.

My laptop is in the living room, but I cannot physically pay attention to the TV when I'm on the computer. When my shows are on, the computer is closed and off, and my cellphone is away and charging.

Totally agreed.

I never even look at my phone when I'm not at work. Sometimes work calls me during the week, and the next time I'm in, I'm just like, yeah battery died and didn't look at it all week so I didn't realise lol
And like, I'll explain that, but they just don't seem to comprehend and ask a few more times what happened.
They just don't get that I wouldn't pick it up instantly every time.

I hate being tied to technology so much. Well, not so much technology in general, but phones, computers etc.

I've gone entire weeks before without checking my phone for missed calls and text messages. It's not that I don't care, it's that I just forget about my phone.

(And on the article, the laser wound suture thingy is pretty awesome, that would be SO helpful for surgery.)

You guys sound like a couple of old men, but you're probably just in your 30s. The world is starting to change so much that even at my advanced age of 23, I'm starting to feel nostalgic for the days when you had to be sitting down to access the internet.

The big thing will be BCI (brain-computer interfaces). Once this happens, in a few short years most everyone will be wired to everyone else, on a direct cognitive level. Individuality may lose some or all of its meaning. I actually had a terrifying dream about this a few weeks ago, where I was like the last person in the world to implant a BCI, and I was afraid of becoming a part of the 'collective'. Scary stuff.

Heh, I'm 21. Almost 22.

I have never accessed the internet without sitting down. I've used a smartphone for like 10 seconds, and shown my aunty something on my mum's iPad, while I was standing, so I guess that could count.

But tbh, I just can't be bothered dragging this stuff around with me all the time. If there were brain implants, that might change it a bit. And it would become more part of me, instead of extra baggage.
Likewise I would transfer my brain to a more capable robot in a heartbeat.

Call me crazy, but I don't want to live forever inside of a computer network. I'm fine living and dying just like every living thing that has ever existed (except for maybe a couple species of jellyfish that are literally phoenixes and rise from their own corpses.) I also don't like the idea of "uploading" myself into a computer; how do we know that it's not simply ThePreserver Prime, and not actually me? Impossible to know for sure!
