The title of the thread, for starters, is completely made up. You also made it up that South Africa was prospering and is now in decline (trying to coincide their decline with the end of apartheid, which has nothing to do with it)

can someone please define racist, and with that definition, explain how it applied to me.

Not if we define prospourous by "advanced, european style economy" which is what most people actually mean. It was a sloppy wording of the question but it doesn't seem inherently racist. Of course not every european nation prospered but the clear indication is there. Likewise, different African countries have "attained" different degrees of "westernization" but South Africa clearly stands out as the most directed in that regard. Of course I doubt an arpartheid era, black "citizen" of South Acrica would have considered the country prospourous, but just think of GNP. That's a usual definition. The answer as to why South Africa is the exception is simply that the white people came from Europe, killed many of the people that they already found living there and transplanted there "prosporous" (remember definitions, I know it's hard!) "civilization" to the southern end of Africa. In central africa, the diseaes were too strong and europeans didn't have suitable crops. South Africa is much more like parts the historically dominant parts of Eurasia in climate than most of the rest of Africa.

It's only racist if you find yourself unable to answer it without resorting to racist theory.

So the question is,

"Why did White Europeans have the "Guns, Germs, and Steel"? Can you answer that question in a non-racist way?

I don't view whites as superior to others, mainly because superior is a subjective term. I mean sure white skin is superior in europe, but then again, black skin is superior in africa, its subjective, like all the other characteristics of each race. I can't really say 'whites are superior' or 'blacks are superior' although you seem to think mixed-race people are superior, and I consider that racist, although noone else seemed to care about that blatent anti-white, anti-black anti-asian racism.

I don't know how i've treated non-whites worse than whites. I have non-white friends, they know my views, and they don't seem to think I am racist against their race, a couple even agree with me.

Does this mean that famine, poverty, poor infrastructure, lack of education, contaminated water, extreme population growth, a lack of access to modern medicine, extensive dictatorships and political corruption, poor human rights are 'Black standards of success'? That's just absurd. These aren't 'white standards of success', they're successes by anyone who values their quality of life.

For all the flaws of western civilization it has had some great successes, which is why many who don't have access to those luxuries want them.

Why is "white" success different than "black" success. That's essentially the same question as why the whites (well, a minority of whites) ended up with Guns, Germs, and Steel, i.e. it's begging the question. This can be answered in a non-racist way.

I would say that racism is "assuming that behavior will differ based on genetic attributes of different 'races'".

My enthusiastic response was celebrating the acknowledgement (I wouldn't expect you not to know this) that all standards of success are inherently circular. It's nice when we do agree: it must be right.

And Omnis, saying that racism is "thinking your race is superior" goes to show your general ineptitude with definitions. Please study some math.

Thinking your race is superior is MyRaceSupremicism. Look that one up in the definition. You know what it means. E.g. White Supremisisum. Or whatever. My dad is a racists (he thinks white people are smarter and black people have more heart, but he's not a surpremicist. He's just a racist) He then accuses me of being a supremicist because I value intelligence. But I reject to begin with the idea that white people are inherently smarter. So I'm not really a supremicist. Just thought I should fess up that at least one black person (my dad) considers me a white supremicist. But he's a racist anyway (though at least not a surpremicist: may we all do better than our parents)
