      Boredom

It seems like boredom is just feeling entitled to entertainment from an outside source. It comes from an assumption about how things should be

Something can be dull, but if you change the way you are looking at you can usually at least find humor if not something even deeper.
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

This thread is boring. How can I change the way I look at it to make it humorous (if not something deeper)?

So you're saying, entertainment should flow from the inside out? I find this in-line with my own experiences. When I get bored, I create things. I teach, creating ideas in people (and a certain parrot), I make music as I do chores, I create and propagate life itself, both animal and plant. It's rewarding and fulfilling to know that I've made new things come into existence, especially when it's something I can always improve upon, or magnify.

But then, what about the external stuff? What makes it not boring? Music, television, videogames, board games, literature, friends... I don't treat them as mindless consumption. You get what you put in. You must know yourself and know the media to know what you value in that media. So I research shows and albums, by watching/listening, but also discussing them with others, what specifically I like and don't like, what I'd think they'd like, and what makes them distinct from others in the genre.

If you go into any activity expecting to have fun served to you on a platter, with zero effort or interaction of your own, you are of course doomed to boredom. By definition, you are not actually apart of the activity; you're living passively.
