What is your opinion of Thoth aka Hermes Mercurius Trismegistus

I am curious what people think about the supposed Atlantean named Thoth, who then fled to Egypt after the destruction of Atlantis.

He has an alternate name of Hermes Mercurius Trismegistus and is the supposed author of the Emerald tablet(s).

I hear really good, and really bad things about him. I'm wondering if the bad reputation is because of Aleister Crowley and his book about Thoth, and Hermeticism.

Apparently he was self created, which is kinda strange. He is also the inventor or founder of Magic(k).

There are lots of stories about him, and even mosaics of him in churches

I think Thoth is a pretty cool guy. Eh does magiks and doesnt afraid of anything.

That is what my general consensus is of him, but I think there is the possibility the modern occult orders such as the likes of A. Crowley, and others that have perverted his teaching for their own purposes. I have not read it, but Crowley wrote a book about Thoth, and people seem to now view him as some kind of evil being, but what is interesting is the name he had was "Trismegistus" or thrice greatest because he supposedly save mankind, or certain parts of mankind from destruction three times. Why would an evil entity do that? There is an interesting account of Lemurian and Atlantean civilization that goes into great detail about Thoth/Hermes M.T. and that he had to intervene to help save atlantis from a race of warmongering beings that supposedly came from the planet Mars and came to Atlantis and set up residency if you will. The race from Mars supposedly caused problems from the moment they arrived and tried to take over Atlantis, and that their plans had to be thwarted.

Apparently things got out of hand when the martians attempted the so called "lucifer experiment" which was the possible reason for the destruction of Mars in the first place.
