I see this constantly posted on my Facebook wall and it always annoys me. I wish I could just lay down in the bed for 30 minutes whenever and insta-lucid dream. Even if you do get a lucid dream that way, it'll still be during your first period of REM so it'll be a really crappy and short lucid dream. (in my experience anyway)
If you do this later on in your sleep cycle, like for instance waking up six or so hours after falling asleep, you can do this and it's basically WILD. But the little picture doesn't tell you that, it only tells you to lay in bed and just go for it.
I also don't agree with the "If you have an itch don't scratch it!" and similar. When I have an itch and don't scratch it, it just gets worse and doesn't go away xD
I'm seeing no helpful tips, just blantant inaccuracies.
It's a start, at least. People might see it, try it, and the results might get them more interested in lucid dreaming and how to do it so they'll look up websites or books on it or something =)
Oh Hypno, how I despise that picture :shakehead: It really is inaccurate and unfortunately it shows up all over the place. As Ashikael mentioned, you would want to do that on a WBTB, at least, and forget all the junk about sleep paralysis, the weight on your chest, and not moving. I would check out Sageous's WILD class if you are interested in WILD, or the tutorial by Mzzkc.
I've never read that before and i do agree that most of it is wrong. But in my experience I have been able to become lucid that easily before. I just closed my eyes after the first dream i had(Somewhat similar and i woke up after like an hour of it I think. I was lucid in that one as well.) and lay there until i started hearing voices in the room(Happened after a few minutes) and noticed that i couldn't move.I was semi lucid as i slipped from awake to in dream mode though. However not being able to move is what made me fully lucid. Than i waited till i could enter the void that would open behind my back so i could go to a different setting in the dream. I wouldn't call what i had in the dream sleep paralysis though. Not being to move on a bed is just a dream sign i made a long time ago that helped me to tell when i was in a dream. I can appear in different beds/rooms too. Besides i have other signs than that.
Oh gees everytime I see this picture I cringe at how inaccurate it is, please do yourself a favour and forget everything you red from it haha
It's not that bad! It has that "advertisement feel" to it, but surely it's no more cringe worthy than the average car advertisement. Some people apparently find astral projection to be pretty much as stated there (unless they are blatantly lying about their own abilities of course). If you read the books by Robert Monroe you'll find that he AP'ed (or OBE'd) routinely after lying down for a mere 5 minutes or so (lucky him).
And the tip about not acting on your impulses is completely in line with buddhist meditation practice - and it helps to realise that all things have a beginning, a middle, and an end (yes, even itches are not forever ;) ).
Yeah, I think these work mostly if you're doing WILD.
I have to agree with Voldmer. Why is everyone saying the picture is inaccurate? Every website you may find with tutorials basically say the same thing:
Lay in your bed
Don't move a muscle
Ignore all distractions (itches, etc)
That's exactly what the picture says. Just because it doesn't include things like 'do it only in WBTB', doesn't mean it's inaccurate. The picture looks perfectly accurate to me, just incomplete.
There's a difference between inaccuracy and being incomplete.
Without that "tiny detail" all you will keep getting is sleep paralysis, you will never be able to enter a dream, because it wont get formed properly.Quote:

Who knows how many people tried following the picture and never had a lucid dream BECAUSE of it. Some maybe even lost hope.
Boo to the picture maker - he probably only needed some facebook likes.
I so wish you could +like posts more than once. I would like your's a +100, ThreeCat.
Not sure why OP chose to post these "helpful tips" on a lucid dreaming forums that over the span of years had accumulated dozens of helpful tutorials that are not full of misinformation like the picure in the first post.
Please everybody do yourself a favor and if you want to have a good chance of lucid dreaming, please read the tutorials linked.

Induction Methods and Techniques
Also, moved to ED.
Oh come on! This is in the "extended discussion" section, and it certainly is not where people go to educate themselves on the finer details of lucid dreaming. OP specifically gave the thread the title "Hehe, this picture isn't exactly true :\", thereby providing early warning of some error in the picture.
And, let's face it, the picture is an appetizer, clearly meant to draw people into this field. What do you think it will do? Scare everyone away from lucid dreaming? More likely the opposite. And once people get attracted to lucid dreaming, it does not take long before they realise the inadequacy of that picture and come looking for some deeper insights somewhere. Maybe even here at DreamViews.
Now, obviously, we wouldn't want that to happen, would we?
How did you all get attracted into lucid dreaming - by overhearing smalltalk of the brilliance of Sageous's writings, and Mzzkc's tutorial?
Things wrong with it
-If your extremely tired you will most likely just end up falling asleep and not having a lucid dream.
-The moving your eyeballs part was was unnecessary.
-If i feel like moving into a more comfortable position i will move. Even after laying for a while than changing position i still ended up having a lucid dream. You don't even have to be laying face up to have a Wild. This isn't even a WILD/WBTB tutorial its suppose to be a in general lucid dreaming tutorial.
-You don't need sleep paralysis to lucid dream. Feeling a weight on your chest is garbage info.
Many things wrong with it being a tutorial for lucid dreaming so its not helpful at all even if it has tiny truth in it. The truth being that you can get lucid while laying on your back, not moving, with your eyes closed. That's obvious though.
If more was added it would still throw people off. ^^''Quote:

I honestly wouldn't want newbies reading this. Not because of fear but because of the misunderstandings it has in it.Quote:

That might have actually happened for some people. XD Not me since i've been lucid dreaming long before i came here but even so as long as their learning the right way than its all good. Also, I haven't read the other tutorials so i guess people just pick their fav or what they read before. Although there are probably other tutorials out there that are helpful and could use some credit as well. I wouldn't know which ones though. - w -Quote:

Yeah there's not really any good advice in that picture. It's just the worst WILD tutorial that I have ever seen.
