Can thoughts manifest?

I read several articles saying that if one puts too much attention on a thought it's bound to manifest into their life in some way. They gave an example of how when people keep thinking negatively about something or replaying the worst case scenarios of what could happen in the future, it usually does. In one article, the author explained this by saying that thoughts are merely forms of energy, and by thinking of a thought repeatedly, you are reinforcing its energy, and thus enabling it to materialize. Is there really such a thing? if we focus our thoughts and energy on something we want, or just something in general, we are reinforcing it to happen? Also, I heard of people using a method called "wish programming," basically it's the same as thinking of what you want to obtain, materialistic or otherwise, and supposedly, if done right, and all your energies and thoughts are aimed on this wish, there is a possibility it will happen. I figure there are limits to such things, even if this method works. I'm sure I can't just "wish program" for anything that I'd like. But anyway, I would like to get a constructive discussion going on this topic, so if any of you can add something to my post, I'd like to hear it.

You can google the "Copenhagen Interpretation" of quantum physics. It hints at this, in no certain terms, but may just be what you're looking for.

As far as creation goes, when someone invents something, it has to start as a thought in the inventor's mind somewhere along the line. Some have extended that idea all the way back to God, reasoning we are all just thoughts in his/her mind. I don't see any reason not to do so.
There is also cause and effect, which says nothing happens by chance. Wouldn't it be wonderful if you actually had the ability to control your own life? Having things happen because we want them to happen? I think people do have the potential, but rarely are aware when they do it.

Anyways, I do believe that theory. Too many times things have happened in my life that are far beyond chance. Most would write off as coincidence. I have a good memory too, so I can recall what I was thinking about it then, now that it has happened.

Now why would you want to think something that way? You did just theorize that how we think controls things. Being close-minded is the only possible limiting factor. I feel that's the big problem with people. They think within the box and say "It hasn't happened yet", well that's because they don't want it to happen. Such a statement is meaningless, even mathematically.

Sure they can in some sense. You keep thinking "I'm gonna do so badly at football practice today..." well, you probably will. If you think "I'm gonna try to get really good grades in school," then you probably will because you will try very hard.

But other than that... the collective energies of peoples' thoughts, if this were true, during 9/11 would probably bring people back to life/turn back time/annihilate Iraq.

Iraq had nothing to do with al Qaeda or the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the US. If the US had actually wanted to attack a country other than Afganistan that in some way contributed to the 2001 attacks, it would have chosen Saudi Arabia, the country from which 15 of the 19 hijackers hailed. But Saudi Arabia has valuable oil which Americans in their road tanks who sneer at alternative forms of transportation and who crank their home thermostats up to 75F in the dead of winter like to drink as a 20 gallon power smoothie before noon and to which the United States, and especially this current administration, has rather intimate ties. Iraq was a war of choice, not one of necessity or even of revenge. During press appearances and public speeches, George W. Bush habitually mentions al Qaeda and Iraq in the same or adjacent sentences, but asked directly what the link between the two is if such actually exists, and even he is at a loss.

ataraxis, what I said above to LucidNightFlight really applies to you too. In many of your posts, I see you take an idea and just arbitrarily stop with it, as far as it is qualified. Instead of extending an idea to always be true, you just artificially apply bounds to your ideas. Perhaps you should keep a tally of how often you do this, you might be surprised. Besides, I don't think it can do any more damage to think on the whole instead of in halves. It may only strengthen your argument.

Also how reasonable is your statement about collective energies? The typical hurdle with manifestation is that it takes time for events to be created. Some say it would be easier to travel forward in time rather than backwards. I would think similarly it would be easier to change the future rather than the past. If we do change the past, how can we really know we did anything unless we time travel backwards to verify it?

As far as manifestation goes I think the concept of the ‘tulpa’ is the epitome of physical manifestation.

A tulpa, is an entity created by an act of imagination, rather like the fictional characters of a novelist, except that tulpas are not written down. It involves intense concentration and visualization. It can grow from first being a mere subjective entity, then slowly to a imaginary ghost like quality and finally becoming indistinguishable from objective physical reality.

As far as manifestation to accomplish a goal in life, or to perfect a task, professional athletes do it all the time (visualization, which is a form of manifestation) to ‘perfect’ and hone their skills to their ideal. The mind and imagination are among the most powerful tools available to man, much more powerful than a Pentium 4 or the internets. The quickest way to become the idealistic perfect person you always want to be, is to imagine in your mind with absolute exact clarity and vividness just WHO that person is, capture the essence and soul of the person, feel the energy of the person and his/her radiance and expression. You will become that person, that person is your higher true self.

Visualization can also be used to cure diseases, or to heal a certain part of your body. Don’t be skeptical or it won’t work, faith and belief often changes a lot of things by (apparent) magic.

I think manifestation/visualization/guided imagery works something like this.
There definitely is an effect, even if it’s only emotion that affects people too.
(Otherwise evil drug giants that make Zoloft and other mood artificial enhances would be out of business)

Well, there's a problem with the test. You need to do a blind test for this, something like ten cups of water, five of which have been on that grid for a day, and five that haven't. Then someone places it in a random order and calls for a second person, who doesn't know which is which, to perform a taste test.
Otherwise you'll just end up thinking the water tastes different because you expect it to.
