      ecological footprint and you!

What do you do to conserve?
ecological footprint test, and resulting discussion....

What type of things do you do to try and not squander the planets resources?
My wife thinks I am too extreme on some points.

I turn of water when I am in the process of brushing my teeth.
I also turn of the water to preserve hot water in the shower when I am lathering up.
(keep in mind I live in an area off wells that are sustained by aquifers. So no aquifer, no water. So it is not just electricity.)
I recycle = newspapers, magazines and aluminum.
I give old cloths to a number of sources.
I turn off all lights when they are not in use,
I hang up a lot of my cloths rather than use the dryer.

      Every little bit helps.
I have a lot of room for improvement.

Ah, that is a good one!!
As for that, I usually eat off of glass plates instead of paper ones, and will not use paper towels (icky texture, anyways). I also find uses for plastic bags and cardboard boxes.

The very fact that we have to come up with ways to voluntarily conserve energy and other resources just proves that these resources are too cheap.

Raise the cost of gas to 8 bucks a gallon and you'll see some serious conservation.

the things you said howetzer (although i use a dryer much more than a clothesline in the winter due to poor planning).

also, i eat no meat, and limited dairy, and try to buy food produced locally whenever possible.
i sold my car, and bike anywhere relatively close. i'll borrow a family member's/friend's care for longer, neccessary trips.

That is true. But at least some of us give it an involuntary action because of the fact that we are aware that another oil embargo could happen.
Others just go around like the earths resources were made fro them and them only.

So true!, I see people do things like that. I had a neighbor old lady, who would take the car literaly anywhere, I mean even if she was gona go two houses down the block that is just wrong.

For me, I am a veggie, but I eat meat every once in a while, although I don't do this as much because of resources, but because I'm not a meat fan; I don't own a car, I recicle, I've worked on street cleaning campaings, etc. anything that comes this way
      Here and there...

Oh dear!: on saturday I bought a new light/fitting for my room. It looks very nice, but uses 230 watts - at night my room is brighter than day light.

I try and make up in other ways. I don't really fel the cold so I rarely have the heating on, and I enjoy cold showers.

You could grow vegetables all year round to make up for it.

heh, you remind me of one of my friends. he doesn't give a fuck about anything from what i can glean except having a good time. but i can never fault him for it, even knowing he's intelligent enough to see both sides of it. he just chooses to live for himself, which is fine i guess. each person chooses however they are going to live and die.if life's all there is, might as well enjoy it.

      Hmm...
I only have lights on in the rooms that i am using, ie, the one i'm sat in, and i always turn them off.
I only have heating on in two rooms, the sitting room (which is thermostat, not storage) and the bedroom, (which is fairly low, because i have a big duvet to snuggle up under.
Also, i try and do my tumble drying after eleven pm at night, because it's cheaper then.
I also turn the water off when brushing my teeth, but don't turn off the shower, i'd freeze!
what else do i do..well, i don't recycle, becuase it's only me, i don't generate that much rubbish to recycle, it would take me a long time to make enough to send to the recyclers.
Newspapers get used for my birdcages, or wrapping things up and putting them in storage. I save carrier bags from the supermarket, and use them again when i go shopping.
