I'll start w/ the 1st time I can remember an experience.
I was 7 and staying at my grandparents house (a home they only lived in for about 6 months). It was just the 3 of us there. We were in the living room watching Wheel Of Fortune it was just starting to get dark outside. We heard a baby crying. The crys were coming from the back guest room. My room for that weekend. I looked at my grandma and asked what was happening. She said not to be scared and that they heard it all the time. Well I was 7 and I was scared. Later when it was time for bed I begged grandma to sleep with me in there or let me sleep in her room. She said no and everything would be ok. So I just laid there under the covers scared outta my mind until I finally went to sleep. I woke up hrs. later and first thing I remember seeing was the face of the digital clock blinking 3:00 am. A movement caught my eye at the foot of the bed but it was still to dark to see anything and my eyes were not quickly adjusting to the dark yet. I heard a man's whispering voice but the words were spoken in jibberish that I couldnt understand. I was terrified and can remember feeling anger in the room. I screamed as loud as I could for my grandparents. My g'ma came in and turned on the light. I was crying and told her what happened. I didnt go back to sleep that night (morning rather) and I went home as soon I could get my dad to come and get me. We (g'ma and I) havent really talked about it since. It makes her uncomfortable. All she would say was that something wasnt right about that house and it scared her to be there.

Excellent! I LOVE real-life ghost stories. Too bad I don't have any to contribute, but I will thoroughly enjoy readings everyone's experiences.
When I was in high school, one of my friends found out that I could ‘see’ things that other people couldn’t. Like just about everyone else who finds out, she didn’t believe me. So when I attended a sleepover one weekend, she and another friend told me there was a house in town that they wanted me to see. They wanted to know if I could feel anything from it. I’ve never been eager to prove myself to other people, but they were my friends and they seemed to be interested in something I had always been told was ‘weird’ and ‘evil’, so I agreed. And besides, there’s just something cool about prowling around in the dark when you’re fourteen.
We reached the house (which was all boarded up and abandoned and just screamed “I’m haunted!”) and I immediately got a powerful feeling from it. The neighbors must have been completely oblivious because the house had a virtual aura of hauntedness. I was scared, but I think I was more curious than anything. I always question this sort of thing... why me? Why do I feel this stuff? Why do I see and hear things other people don’t? Is there a reason for it or am I just doomed to be different?
I walked closer to the house until I was finally close enough to touch it. As soon as my skin brushed over the cold wood, I felt a ‘flash’ (I’m not sure how to describe it) and I saw a single image of a teenage boy standing over a girl. She lay in an old-fashioned bathtub that was filled with red water. I pulled my hand away from the side of the house and turned and ran. I was so scared that I kept running until my friends caught up with me two streets away. I sat on a curb and told them what I saw. No one said anything for a while. They later explained that a few years before, some guy had murdered his girlfriend in the bathtub.
Apparently he’s still there...
I've had an experience, though a minute one. There's a house beside the house I live in now that my family used to live in. Once, I was sitting on the floor in front of the television (I was about 13) and I saw a translucent black figure that had a big hat on. It was obviously a man. Of course, he walked into another room and vanished. I followed him into the room, and he was nowhere to be found. I wasn't scared. I've never been scared of those sorts of things, rather intrigued. Anyway, the same type of thing happened to my dad, with what we believe was the same 'man'. He was laying on his bed. From there, you can see into my brother's room, which is diagonal to my parent's bedroom. He saw a man by the window. He got up and went into the room and it wasn't there. The event was repeated several times in a row.
While I was living at my mothers house, she, and her boyfriend kept telling me they thought there was a spirit in the house (both being quite spiritual people). One day, while they were both at work I was sitting on the couch watching TV and I kept hearing this banging noise coming from downstairs. I was freaked out, but something drew me down there, so down I went to investigate. I didnt find much, so I went back upstairs into my kitchen. The living room has two solid doors in it, that lead to the kitchen. I was just about to go in and I heard the banging noise again, I turned around, shrugged it off and started towards the kitchen and the doors slammed shut right in front of me. I decided it probably wasnt the best decision to stay in the house, because I probably would have pissed myself. So I went outside and remained there until my mother got home. I did alittle inspection after words and found that the window in the kitches WAS open, and there was a light breeze outside. So im still not really sure what that all was. But yah... Still freaky.
The night before last I had to work the night shift at the funeral home I work for. Its a really old home and back in the 1950's the owners of the home installed an elevator (the embalming room is located on the 2nd floor- hence the reason for the elevator).
Anyway, were not really busy there at night unless we get a call about a "passing" so I mostly just read books on these shifts. It gets boring. Its just me there alone 80% of the nights. When I am alone I do get freaked out sometimes but I try to ignore it. Heres what happens:
The 1st night I was there by myself the elevator started desending to the 1st floor. I walked around and went down the stairs to see who had pushed the button for the elevator b/c it never came back up. No one was there. I went back up -via the stairs- and thats when I heard the elevator start going back up. I made it back to the hallway to see the elevator doors open and nothing inside. This happens every night Im there.
A co-worker there says he hears the elevator moving like that all night long too.
Other times im there alone and I have this feeling like im being watched. I'll look up sometimes from my book b/c something catches my eye - a movement. A shadow. Its hard to describe b/c Its never a clear image- just a glimpse of something moving around the corner.
I dont ever feel threatned there, but ive promised myself that when I do I wont be working the night-shift any longer.
Wow - being in a funeral home is freaky enough without having to work the night shift all alone and have the possessed elevator keep going up and down all night long! :shock: I'm with you - I wouldn't be working any more night shifts unless someone could be there with you!
Well, I don't know if this qualifies as a ghost story, since I'm not sure what actually caused the disturbance that night, but it certainly qualifies as "scary strangeness of unknown origin".
The setting: This fall I was teaching at a 400-acre environmental education center in rural Mississippi. It was 5 miles from the nearest town, and even that had only 200 people. The center rested on the shores of a 20-year-old, 6600 acre man-made lake. The land was originally Chickasaw territory, but for the past 150 years or so, it was farmland for a few different families which worked the land for generations. The original farmhouse was torn down only a few decades ago, and the family cemetary is still on the property. We liked to scare the kids by bringing them out of the woods right in front of the old cemetary at night on the way to and from campfire when the moonlight would reflect off the worn stones like so many squat, silent sentinals. 17 year old boys would scream like 9 year old girls. It was hilarious, but sort of beside the point. Anyway, the Army Corps of Engineers took over the land about 30 years ago and the EE center went up. There are 4 cabins on the property, separated from each other by about 50 feet, and each of which holds 25 students. One intern stays in each cabin. When there are no student groups, we are the only ones in our cabins.
This place made me uncomfortable from the moment I arrived. Although I was raised in a city, I've always felt more peaceful and relaxed in natural settings. I never felt relaxed there. It was a constant feeling of naked vulnerability. Perhaps it was from being alone out there without a telephone that worked or police within 20 miles, but I've been camping before and it wasn't that "the bears are gonna eat me" sort of vulnerability. I don't know. I can't really explain it better than that, so I'll just leave it.
Anyway, I jotted down what's pasted below only a couple of days after the actual event while the memories were still fresh. At the time, I would have given almost anything to make it stop, but hindsight is always calmer, and that half hour ended up becoming a fairly decent 22-page story, so all's well that ends well, I suppose.

These weren't the usual clicks of the ventilation or groans and thumps of wood contracting and expanding. They weren’t the clunks and rolls of acorns and branches falling on the metal roof, but rather clapping and banging coming from just outside of my suite, from what sounded like the lobby of the cabin. The door to my suite was locked. The main doors to the cabin were not. These claps and bangs and taps, like two boards being clapped together (only not so loud, and the tappings were like something tapping on glass to get in perhaps - but whatever it was was already in) came in bursts that were irregular in duration and in the length of time between them.
The sounds weren't even exactly like I described them b/c I couldn't for the life of me figure out what they were. But they were coming from the lobby of the cabin, and I never heard any footsteps or creaking. The entire cabin is constructed of wood, planks on the floor and on the walls, beams and more planks on the ceiling - it's practically impossible to walk across the lobby floor without creaking the floorboards or having your footfalls echo under the 25-foot vaulted ceiling. I’ve certainly never done it, although admittedly, I’ve never really tried. I also never heard the two sets of outer doors open and shut. Usually I do - I heard it every time one of the other interns came in to visit, but perhaps I was too absorbed in the book this time. Maybe. Possibly.
These noises went on for about half an hour, during which time I had my pocket knife and my metal Maglite in my hands despite the fact that I didn't have a real gut feeling, "mortal danger" reaction. I was just seriously weirded out and nervous. I thought maybe someone was trying to lure me outside of my suite, trying to get me to open the door, so I sure as hell wasn't going to go check out what was going on. This is Mississippi and everyone has a gun. Everyone but me. I have a pocket knife and a flashlight. I had formulated exactly what I would do if someone did try to break down the door. I was already sitting on the floor beside the bed, out of view of the windows even though the blinds were shut. If I heard the door being tested, I would scurry as silently as possible and crouch just inside the bedroom door. As soon as someone came through, I would shove the knife into his groin in a smooth upward motion while standing and follow through with the Maglite pistol-whipped to his head. It was a good plan, I thought, given the circumstances and tools, but I didn't really think it would come to that.
And I still couldn't identify the sounds. It didn't sound like something a person would do - I mean, what the hell were they using to make those sounds, and why didn't they make any noise when they came in, and why weren't they making moving-around noises now, and why hadn't they tried to break down my door yet? But if not some drunken, violent, horny local, then who? What? I was locked into these thoughts when the gunshot came - close, it sounded like it was less than a mile or two away. At this point, I tried to call Amy on my limited-service cell phone. I got through, but it was scratchy and went to voice mail. There wasn't enough of a signal to carry a two-way conversation, and the only landline is up at the lodge - a quarter mile run through the lobby, outside, across the bridge, up the hill through the dark woods, across the parking lot, and into the equally pitch black, empty (I could only hope) and echoing lodge. Not an option.
I tried to call Deb. Voice mail again. I started to wonder if maybe my gut was wrong about this not being a serious situation and whatever was in my cabin was a patient, silent killer who was trying to lure me out because he'd already gotten to the others. I dismissed this idea (or tried to - really, I only managed to vanquish it to the background) and tried to call Rob. Voice mail. I returned to the possibility of the waiting killer while sitting on the floor beside the bed. A few minutes later the phone rang. It was Rob. I asked whether he'd heard the gunshot and he said "no," but asked if I'd like him to come over and have a look around. I told him "no, it’s fine," that I'd just heard some weird noises in my cabin and that gunshot and wondered if any partiers had pulled their boats up and were having a bit of fun at my expense.
I didn't want to sound as freaked out as I was. Half an hour of unidentifiable noises of unknown origin and unknown intent fucking with me with only an inch-thick piece of wood, a tiny deadbolt, and a half dozen yards between us had unnerved me quite a bit more than I was willing to admit to someone who sounded like he'd just woken up from a nap. It had been partiers - it had to have been partiers, I told myself. Quiet ones who can make noises of no known origin without making a sound as they moved about. Rob said that he hadn't heard anything, but if I heard anything else, I should give him a call. After the gunshot, the noises stopped. I was on high alert, listening for any sounds even during the call, and I never heard whatever was making the noises exit. No creaking. No footsteps. No doors opening or closing. It simply stopped, stopped for an intermission as it had been doing for the past half hour, only this time, it didn't come back.
Yesterday morning at breakfast, Rob admitted he'd come over and had a look around after I'd called despite my instance that it was unnecessary. He hadn't found anything - no boat parked at the cove behind the cabins, no one sneaking through the woods, no one laughing and partying - just the dark, quiet woods and the wind rustling through the dry leaves that still clung to the trees. Amy said she might have heard the gunshot, but she wasn’t sure. I’m don’t know how she could “maybe” have heard the gunshot – it was pretty damn loud – but perhaps she had music on… No else heard anything out of the ordinary that night.[/b]

Willow...I'm so glad you decided to make this thread and moderate it. All of these stories have been extremely interesting to read and I look forward to reading more. I often wish I could see things and hear things the way that you can dear...I suppose some would see it as a blessing, others as a curse.
Ok, here’s a quick one (because I should be working right now, lol):
Last summer, when I lived with my brother in El Paso, there was a guy in my room. He was small of stature and had Latino (is that the right term to use?) skin, dark hair and dark eyes. He wasn’t always there, but when he appeared, he would stand in the doorframe of my closet and I could see him even if the door was closed. He never moved or said anything. He didn’t even watch me as I moved around my room. He just... stood there. Doing nothing. I can’t express this enough. He stood there doing nothing. Well, he blinked occasionally, but except for the usual body-wobble thing that we all get when we try really hard to stand perfectly still, that’s all the movement he ever made. He never felt unfriendly or threatening. He just felt... I don’t know, there. I tried to talk to him quite a few times, but he either couldn’t hear me or couldn’t respond. I didn’t understand that particular ghostly experience and I still don’t.

Well, this happened to my brother, but I thought it was kind of creepy...
My brother was spending the night at his mum's house. In the middle of the night, he woke up with a start because the dog in his room had started barking. It was pretty dark, but my brother could clearly see a strange-looking man in a top hat staring at him from the other side of the bed. He fumbled for the lamp switch and turned it on. As soon as he did, the apparition disappeared. The dog also had stopped barking and ran over to where the man had been, sniffing the exact spot where the man had stood.
I have a couple
Wierdest one was when me,my dog, my mom and my little sister were in my moms room, on the second floor, sitting there watching tv. All of a sudden we heard our front dorr open and shut, someone walk upstairs and go into my sisters room. When my mom went to check to see who was there, there was noone, kinda freaky
The second was when one of our shandaliers was swinging back and forth for no apparent reason
I remember when I was around 8 I was riding my bike, and I saw this girl who was completely black (not like African American, like the color) appear and walk behind this shrub where she disappeared. And there's a good foot of space between the branches of the shrubs and the ground, so you'd be able to see her legs, but she just disappeared.
Earlier this week, one of my friends committed suicide. Now I keep catching glimpses of him around school, and hearing these odd noises. I think I must be the only one too, because it's pretty obvious and no one else does anything. Like on Tuesday, which is the day we found out he died. he was just standing in the corner for a while doing nothing, and no one did a thing.
I have lots of stories from firsthand experience and from friends experience. I'll start with something from myself. It's not very exciting but you get the idea. :D
I was at my friends house, which is known by most of my other friends for being haunted (it was built on an old, dried up lake), and it was sometime in the morning. We were all hanging out, watching tv and talking. I was sitting in a chair near the doorway. Suddenly I felt something comb through the back of my hair (this is when I had really long hair - should length), and it wasn't like a light brush, it was like something was putting their fingers through my hair.
I turned around, thinking that it was one of my friends joking around, but nobody was standing there. Nobody had even exited the room - I would've noticed considering I was right in front of the doorway. I just turned around, laughing, and told my friend "One of your ghosts is coming on to me!"
And now for a more exciting one.
My friend used to live in the house down from me in my old neighbourhood when he was little, and he has a plethora of experiences that he's told me about. One inparticular was that about every month or so, he'd be sitting on the couch that had it's back to the banister that led downstairs. From this position on the couch you could look down onto the first floor.
Well, about every month, he'd be sitting on the couch, watching tv, and he'd hear some strange noises coming from the downstairs. Like, heavy breathing, or footsteps. Everytime he'd hear these noises, he'd look back down the stairs and see a long, flowing black shadow slowly glide into the basement door.
I have more stories but I'll let other people go before I exhaust all mine. :D Keep up the good stories, guys.
These are wicked cool! I know it's like months since this thread started but I'll add my stories anyway...
When I was about 10 or 11 every weekend I'd spend sleeping over at my one friends house, we were best friends. At night, his mom would put him and his brother in his brothers room (a double bed) and me in his room (a single bed). His room was right on the end of the passage, right next to his parents room.
Anyway we would normally end up going to sleep at like 1 or 2 in the morning, and often (I say often meaning like maybe 20 or 30 times in 3 or 4 years) lying there in the dark I would look up at the roof and there would be this black shadow like thing, blacker than the black in the room and it would be swirling around (almost like mist or dust swirling) the roof towards the window, and I'd hear this whisper calling my name incredibly softly, but coaxingly, drawn out like "Brreeeeetttttttt" it would really freak me out, I used to tell my friend about it but he denied hearing anything or ever seeing that in his room, and the first few times I would rush out the room instantly to see who it was, and there would be nobody.
That was scary!
When I was 17 we moved into a new house, a farm house that had been built by the previous owner. The first night we spent there the picture we'd hung up in the passage flew off the hook and the glass broke (there were no windows near the passage, although the bathroom window is sortof nearby it would have to be a really strong wind to blow it off), then another night my aunt was sleeping in the one room reading, and said she thought someone was standing behind her looking at her, at like 2 in the morning.
Another time, I went over to my aunt and uncles house, and was sharing a room with my younger cousin. My aunt and uncle told us in the morning that they woke up thinking we were fighting or breaking something, because they could hear the chest of drawers being moved around, like hectically as if someone were shaking the drawers in it around. Apparently everyone in the house was woken up by the noise (thats 4 other people) and when they came into the room to tell us to shut the hell up, we were both fast asleep and didn't know a thing had happened.
Weird!
I don't have anything that good or scary worth telling, but my dad and brother had a really scary experience in my parents house.
My parents live in a house that was built in 1918 and a woman once died in it (from old age).
Anyway, my dad was in his office upstairs and my brother was in his room, which is directly next to the office.
My dad and my brother heard my mother call his name. He answered, "What?" and again he heard his name and again he answered, "What?!"
He called for my brother and asked him to go downstairs and see what my mom wanted. A few seconds later my brother came running upstairs and said that Mom hasn't come home from work yet...
They both heard it. Weird, huh?

I only just learnt that the place that I work at it haunted. Although its not known whethere the ghost is a male or female. Also one of the waitresses that work there supposedly had a meeting with it one night on the way to the toilet. She saw some one walk past her in the corner of her eye but there was no one there.
After a bit of research I learnt that the resteraunt used to be where people put bodies in bags, like a morgue or something.
I haven't had/don't have time to read all these. I'm way to busy working.
jI grew up in a haunted house in Salt Lake City. What i experienced is very frightening and something you would find in the movies, the amityvill horror and the exorcist...for real no joke.
I still have allot of dreams about this house.
i had the covers throne off of me with nasty faces screaming at me and picking me up and even throwing me around the room, I would wake the whole house up from screaming. Things would be thrown across rooms and dead people would crawl out of teh floor and reach for me, I remember sinks/tubs, lights, doors, cabinets, and windows opening, closing, flickering, turning off and on.
I remember allot of times where I was holding my mom's had begging her to turn the light on while all I could see where mad faces ugly snarling and screaming at me coming from all directions around me top, bottom, and sides like a bubble I could hear my mom and see nothing more than the light bulb. (I've correlated these experiences with my mom and they are real). These where always the same figures I remember one particularly an old man with white bear and black face and mean as hell. I saw him night after night for years. I would hear the sound they made just before they would show up, an eerie sound I cannot describe. I still don't know what the hell happened with me, why I saw/interacted with them more than my siblings. They would see them once in a while, they all saw/heard lights and doors etc. I learned to control these things to some extent, to keep them at bay at least but they where still there. All this stopped after we sold the house and moved. It took me 10 years to overcome the fear if left me, I was scared of the dark until I was 18 or 19, before I finally faced that fear.
This makes me really question whether or not ghosts/spirits exist, or if their beings that exist we are somehow unaware of. Something is there! I've never gone back to the house to see if their still there, or to find out if the new occupants have the same experiences. I've often thought about it.
Alright, here's my contribution.
My old house is haunted. The dog would bark at random spots on the walls, and sometimes just look at a spot and wimper. At night the hot water heater (IDK what it is actually called) would turn on and pump water through the house, even though no one was running water. We checked and it's not supposed to do that. The lightbulbs we put in anywhere always burnt out quickly, like in a week, and only when someone was in the room to see it. Stuff would go missing, and then re-appear in obvious places, where we already looked. Once I lost my watch, I woke up and it wasn't where I put it. I spent a fair amount of the day looking for it. I came back into my room later and my bed was made and the watch was laid out on my pillow. No one else was home. The laundry room (which was a creepy room) door always shook in the frame, even when no one was upstairs. I seemed to notice these things the most, but everyone else noticed them to a lesser degree. Even my best friend.
My friend was over at my house, and we were sleeping downstairs. At about 2 in the morning, we got a strange sense of creepy. I don't really know how to put it. The feeling I'd imagine a person standing in front of a bear den, and hearing a bear growl behind them would feel. I turned and looked at him and he was freaking out too. The door to the laundry room started going CRAZY! Like if a person had been doind that the hinges would've snapped. We freaked out and went upstairs and turned on the kitchen lights and pulled an all-nighter.
Once my little sister was crying, (my mom told me this one, as it happend to her) she was like one or two at the time. She had been crying hardcore all night and everyone except my mom went to bed. At 2:22, (she told me the time) she was in her room and she heard me on the intercom. (WTF! I was asleep in my room!) She heard me close the door behind me, and walk into the room. I said to my sister, stuff like "Calm down, it's okay. Shhhhh... Go to sleep..... Mother (I never say that) will be here soon." When she heard me say "mother" she started to freak out, she said later that my voice sounded off. My sister stopped crying, and she heard more footsteps walking away. She never heard the door open. In the moring the went to check and the door was closed, my sister was asleep and no one was in the room. She asked me If I had gone into her room last night and I said no. Then she told me this story. I was sufficiantly creeped out. This is the only story she's ever told me of her experiances, but I think there's been more. Just call it a hunch.
We would often see people on the deck out of the corner of our eyes, and look and see no one was there.
I sometimes saw sillouhettes in strange places in the backyard. Ocasionally when one of us got out of the shower, there would be hand prints on the mirror. Once there was illegable writing.
And the peice de la resistance. Once I was watching TV in my room. It was 2 in the morning. Or three. It was early, I remember that at least, the times not really that important but I'm sure it was two. Anyways, I'm watching TV with the sound low, so I don't wake anyone up, and I hear footsteps upstairs in the kitchen. (My room is downstairs, and after a few years I had learned to distingush who was walking by just their footsteps.) This was not one of my family members. This was a slow, sinister walk. I got a chill and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. The footsteps walked to about where the stairs started, then stopped. Later, I heard my mom's footsteps, and she came into my room. She asked me if I had been walking in the kitchen. Uh oh. Now I got scared. I thought (hoped really) that it had been her. I told her that I heard the footsteps and it wasn't me, she said it wasn't her. She said she was freaked out and I was on my own. (Jee thanks mom!) She left and went to her room upstairs. I turned off the TV and grabbed a book. I turned on the light on my night table and started reading. A few minutes later I heard the footsteps again. The hallway light was on and I could see out the door. It was casting a door shaped light box on my wall. I heard the footsteps start to go down the stairs. I turned off my light and laid down, pretending to be asleep, but with my eyes open. The footsteps stopped outside my door, and there was a sillouhete of a person on the wall. I freaked out and looked into the hallway. No one was there. The shilloute walked away, and I stayed in bed, frozen in terror. I got like zip sleep that night. That was the last weird thing to happen before we moved like 2 weeks later.
Adanac, those stories seriously creeped me out! :eek: I got goose bumps just reading them. I can't imagine living somewhere like that where you're freaked out all the time. No wonder you moved shortly after that last occurance. Very interesting stories, though! I bet you're not one of those people who thinks ghosts are make-believe...!
I don't know if this counts as a haunting but it is an experience with a ghost...........the ghost of my father.
I am the oldest of five daughters. My parents wanted a son very badly and finally gave up after the fifth girl was born.
My middle sister was the first to marry and have a child. A boy!! My parents were extremely excited and even more so because the baby was a boy. My father loved to take pictures, so he took many pictures and started a photo album of him. This grandson(named Brent) was very special to my dad. He is the only grandchild my father knew because he (my dad) died one month after Brent turned one year old.
My dad died in March and a few months later, my sister and her husband were in the family room watching TV. Brent was in the kitchen and all of a sudden came running out of the kitchen crying and jumping all around, "Dat Man!" "Dat man in dere!" (you have to understand that Brent was only 15-16 months old, so his vocabulary was limited). They went into the kitchen but whoever had been in there was no longer there. "Where was he?", my sister asked and Brent showed her where the man had been standing. My sister asked him "What man?" and Brent went over to a family picture that was on an end table and put his finger on our dad standing there in the picture. "Dat man", he said. We do not doubt that Dad came to pay his grandson a last visit. Brent has not had another experience like that again. He is now 25 years old.

He kept getting more and more cross because it wasn't him, so eventually he took his finger off the glass and shouted "F#ck this, it's not me!", at which point the glass shook violently, flew up into the air and shattered.
They haven't played since, and my gran won't let anyone even think about it.
Another story she told me, was of her mother in law. They used to stay in a house that was on top of a shop, and to get inside you would park your car outside, walk up the stairs in front of the shop, open the gate, walk past the living room window, open the door, then come into the living room via the kitchen door. The living room was pretty close to the stairs and the road, close enough so that you could hear the cars on the road, and the footsteps up the stairs.
My great grandmother was getting sick (she was dying, basically) so my gran and grandfather helped her sell her car to someone who lived nearby. After a month or two, my great gran was in hospital and it was a matter of days as to when she would die. They were sitting in the living room with friends, and around 5:15pm (the usual time my great gran would get home from work) they heard the car stop outside (she said they heard her car, the way you could hear specific cars by the sounds they make), the footsteps up the stairs, the gate at the top of the stairs open, footsteps past the window and a figure walking past the window, they heard the front door open and footsteps into the kitchen, and they all stood waiting to see who it was that had arrived.
After a while no-one walked in, so they went outside to investigate, and my great gran's old car was in front on the road, and the new owner was standing with the bonnet open trying to see what was wrong. According to him, he was driving past and the car just cut out in front of their house. After finding nothing wrong inside the bonnet, he tried to start the car and it started fine, so he drove off.
They went back upstairs, and the phone rang: it was the hospital to say that my great gran had passed away.

This one happened in the church I used to go to. I was playing around w/ a couple of friends of mine and running up the stairs and into the choir loft of the church. I had made it into the loft, one of my friends was in the middle of the stairs still, and the other one was around the corner of the stairwell and therefore saw none of this. Anyway, I was about to go back down the stairs, when this white entity suddenly appeared in the doorway between the stairs and the loft. It was about 2 ft in diameter and stayed there for about a second or two. Well, my friend and I completely freaked out and ran for it.
After moving to our new house I had one more paranormal experience, though this one for some reason did not freak me out at all. :? Anyway, it was the night of my birthday, and I was woken up at probably 2:00 AM, by a male figure grabbing my arm. I was halfway asleep and didn't know what was going on, but really was not that concerned about it. Anyway, the figure told me "Happy Birthday" and then let me go back to sleep. In the morning I was sort of wondering who on earth visited me, but other than that, it still did not bother me. Some people might think that was just a dream, but having had many LDs in my life, I know the difference between dreams and real life, and I am sure that happened.
Anyway, though I have had many other paranormal experiences I will not bore you people w/ all of them. Adios! :bigteeth:

One of my friends lived in quite an old house about one mile from me, it stood out on the street as it was a tad worn. Anyway i had been around a few times but never for a sleep over. He used to tell me he had a suspision there was something wrong in his house as he heard things and thought he saw things sometimes, his little brother( 8) also screamed almost every night and said a man was in his room but he disappeared when he turned the light on.
Anyway i went over ignoring all that, just to have a good time. We played a few online games of age of empires, he had a LAN set up. After a three games his little brother came in, he is quite shy. He told his brother to show me some photos which he said proved the man was real. When i looked at these photos all i saw was odd circles of light on some of the walls and stuff. Interestingly there were very round and my friend said it just happened every time they took a photo which included the stairs or livingroom and it didnt mean anything, but his brother said they were the man( remember he is pretty young). Anyway the evening went normally and it was time for bed. We talked for a while about stuff but there were no noises or anything odd..so far. After about a two hours of being asleep my friends little brother woke me up( they share a room, one bunk bed and one single, little brothers in single). He was shaking and said to me he heard the man. My friend was still asleep, but unlike him, i wasnt going to be mean to his little brother so i pretended to listen at the door. To my slight suprise i did hear what seemed to be a noise on the stairs. I thought i'd listen for a few minutes and it did sound like footsteps, and the stairs were not the creaking kind. I thought i'd my friend quietly to hear his logical explanation, which i was sure there was. So i woke him up and told him to give it a chance and just listen. The room was silent as we all listened, and there it was again. I stopped my friend from saying anything until we had all heard it a few times. He actually seemed quite suprised, he said to be honest he'd never tried to actually go to the door and listen or anything but stil said it was probably wind or something along those lines. His brother was nearly crying and so i thought i'd go out into the hall quietly with him and prove to him it was nothing, so we could sit on the stairs and listen or something. So i opened the door very quietly and we went out making no noise, my friend didnt bother. So we get to the banester to have a look and, if you believe me here or not is up to you, i saw what his little brother had said. It couldn't say it was a man as it was totally black, like a 3D shadow. My heart was pounding at this point and a had to hold my breath not to shout out in protest. The shadow took one step up the stairs, which cause the sound, then just disappeared into thin air. His brother screamed and ran back into bed, i stayed for about ten minutes completly still but the sound had stopped and the shadow didnt return.
Even though i saw this a still remained slightly skeptical and in the next sleep over nothing of the sort happened. I don't know what i saw, but i know i saw it. A few years later, after i left primary school and he had moved away. I found out that the circles of odd light a had seen were supposedly something called "Orbs" which are said to be present in houses whichc ontain spirits. After some research i still remain unsure, i'm usually 100% with science in that when the brain dies it dies and nothing like that could be created. But i saw that shadow man and i wont forget it.
Wow, that's pretty freaky. :shock:
Oh, and if you ever watch Montel, Silvia Brown is on there constantly. Even I am pretty skeptical when it comes to her, but if you put any faith in anything that comes out of her mouth, then the orbs in the pictures are most likely angels. That's what she says anyway. Personally, I'd say they're probably ghosts, but really, who knows?
It's weird - every time I see Montel on, Sylvia Browne is on his show. SHe must be on it quite a bit. I enjoy watching those shows. I believe some of the stuff she says, but necessarily all of it. It's all very interesting and I am open-minded, though. I'm not sure what to think about those orbs, I've heard so many different explanations for them, and who knows if any of them is right?Quote:

I asked my sister if she had any dreams last night at breakfast today. She is five, and was 3 when we left the new house.
She said she had a very scary dream. She said she was playing with a toy, when she looked over at her favorite toy, (one of those littlest pet shop bobble-heads) the head started shaking by itself. She got scared, and then it started screaming really loud. "Like a Ghost!" She said. I thought that it was cool she remembered a dream for once untill I started to walk away and she said, "And it was at the old house." I was like :eek: . Just thought I'd share that. I've had a few dreams of the old house too, and they've been more surreal then freaky.
my ghost stories in a nut shell - but first id like to say I cant stand people who think that every single person who has seen a ghost is a liar or delusional. concidering that thousands of people have seen ghosts and have been throughout time, I think its damn logical to think something is going on. Even if you dont believe in spirits, im willing to accept the non-spiritual explanation having to do with time/memories.
Age Ten - Visual Experience
When I was ten years old I was terrified of the dark. It was late evening, my parents werent home and I was with my sisters. We were all together in the living room/kitchen area. After getting ice for my drink I looked into the dark hallway.
I saw a woman with a white gown and long hair. She was glowing. Her face was distorted. And she floated from my room to my moms bedroom.
I was terrified! But I didnt scream or say anything, I more like choked. I turned away from the hallway, so now my point of view was the living room wall. Dashing all over the living room wall were round lights. They were like flash lights, dozens of flash lights dancing on the wall. After the flashlights faded, I ran to my eldest sister's side. She was watching TV merrily, so I guess she didnt see the strange lights on the wall.
I was so terrified I thought I was going to throw up on myself. My heart wouldnt stop beating.
My other sister came from the kitchen with a very greasy grilled cheese. She stopped walking though when she was across from the hallway. She stood there staring into the hallway for five minutes. Finally I got the nerve to speak
"Whats wrong?"
She said she had heard something in moms bedroom. I didnt tell my sisters what I saw at that time! Instead we did what our parents told us to do if we thought a burgler was in the house. My sisters grabbed the kitchen knives and I grabbed a pot. (I wasnt allowed to handle a knife)
Holding hands we went to my moms room. I ofcourse, wasn't expecting anyone, but my sister was! XD
There wasn't anyone there. Instead the bathroom window's shade made its way to the floor and the window was open. I told my sisters later what I saw. They believed me, becuase my sister had closed the window earlier in the evening since no one was in the room (safety reasons, paranoid parents). And she didnt understand how the shade had made its way to the floor, several feet away instead of falling straight down.
Ten year olds can have an unreliable memory, but my sisters were young teens. Several times that summer we went through this routine of hearing a noise and checking the house with knives in our hands. But this was the only time we 'found' something.
Age 17 - Visual and Experiences from Others Including Cat
So much for the good old days of living in a nice house. We now live in a shitty apartment. My room is upstairs - the source of evil aparently. No one liked to be alone in my room, day or night. I thought I was just being a scardy cat. But even my dad got goosebumps if he was in my room alone *he was there for three days alone cleaning after we moved out*
Even my CAT was afraid to be in my room alone. And my cat is not afraid of the dark - she prefers it.
The experience started with my mom. On a couple of nights she would run down the stairs to scream at us - becuase we were making noise in the kitchen with the pots and pans. But when she got to the kitchen, there was no one there! She didnt think much of it at the time and thought maybe she was hearing the nieghbors or very large roaches..but roaches cant bang pots and pans!
Then the experience led to my cat. My cat hated to be in my room alone. And several nights, she wasn never in there. (My cat likes to sleep near me, im her mommy!). If we left her alone in the room, she would eventually RACE down the stairs. Sometimes she ran down the stairs soooo fast she smashed into the front door. Not Joking. I didnt think much of it at this time. I just thought I had an idiot for a cat.
My cat would also look up at the staircase. Make a whine and run away. Sometimes she would just look up the staircase as if someone was there. It pissed me off really! Especially when I was trying to go to bed, I hated her weird behavior and her staircase paranio. It made me so scared, I didnt want to walk up the stairs alone. So I would try to bring my cat with me. I would try to push her up the stairs, but she wouldnt go. I would try to carry her, but sometimes she squiggled her way out of my arms.
I didnt think much of it at the time, meaning I didnt really believe there was something at the top of the stairs. I just scare easily.
My experience started with nightmares. They were all the same. A demon was in my bedroom. I run down the stairs and escape out the backdoor. The demon was always male.
I did not connect my nightmares to my cats behavior until, one night. I turned over, and there was a girl in my bedroom. She was about my age. Short brunnette hair, cropped at her shoulders with a very simple hairstyle. Jeans, t-shirt, pale skin and her face was very - almost jewish.
She walked up to my bed, to wear I could see her eyes and smile. She disappeared. She didn't frighten me at first, I was more like in 'awe'. But right afterwards I was scared shitless, and hid under my sheets!!
That same week, my dad heard a girls laughter in his bedroom, actually by his bed side. He said the laughter was 'delightful' but of course, it terrified him. The same night my dad heard laughter, my sister saw a face - by her face. She would later describe the face as how I described the face.
Now my sister was SOOOOOOOOO scared, she moved downstairs. So part of the living room was her bedroom. She testifies that nothing bad happens past the staircase. But just to be extra careful, she said a prayer. The prayer was asking Christ to remove any unwanted guests from our home.
Round Two - The Neighbors
My nightmares went away, and none of us heard or saw anything again. One day, our neighbors were moving out. We've never spoken to them before except today. My parents wanted to know why they were moving, just to make sure it wasnt higher rent.
They were frank! And they didnt beat around the bush. The wife just said
"The truth is, my husband can't sleep at night. A girl keeps visiting him. And the children keep hearing her laugh."
So then my dad asked them to describe the girl, it was the same as how I describe her. It looks like our prayer only moved the ghost. . .to the next apartment.
We moved later on ourselves. Like I said earlier, dad was in the apartment alone for three days. He kept feeling. . something. . near him. . and was too scared to sleep upstairs. Instead, he slept in the living room :bigteeth:
Thats the end of my ghost story. I must say, after my nightmares went away I realized how NOT normal it is to have the same nightmare over and over. What misery! It was like something was lifted.
Also, the demon in my dreams was a male, not a girl. I dont think our girl ghost was evil in any way - but im convinced who ever did her wrong was male.
Wow, there are some amazing stories here. I'm only about halfway through the second page so far, I'll read the rest when I get some time later, but I figured I'd post a couple of my own/my families.
Ok, I'll start off with one that happened a couple years ago to me personally. Well, it was like 3am in the morning. I couldn't sleep, because a few years ago, I was a total nightowl, like I hardly slept. I'd go to bed at like 3am and wake myself up at 6 or 7, because I felt like sleep was a waste of my time (ha, how wrong was I, after discovering lucid dreaming?), but anyway. I felt kind of this creepy coldness, and I didn't really know what was up with it.... Suddenly, I heard a big BANG on my window, like just a sudden THUD.
I gasped for a second, then quickly jumped up and pryed open the blinds, where I saw this illuminating white robe slowly skulk past my window and out of my view, only for a few seconds. I was freaked to shit, when all of a sudden, MY PHONE RINGS! The instant ringing of the phone right after this happened SCARED THE HELL out of me, and I couldn't move for a few seconds, but the ringing just wouldn't stop. I didn't want anyone else in the house to wake up, so I grabbed the phone and answered it to make it stop ringing. I picked up; "Hello?". No reply. I sat there for a moment, but no noise came into the phone whatsoever.
Now, this story kind of adds another piece onto that story.... I'm not entirely sure how these things connect, but I'm pretty sure the girl in the robe I saw outside my window is the same one in this story.
Anyway, it was this past summer, and my parents went out for the weekend. Being your typical teenager, I took advantage of this of course, and had some friends over to chill. We stayed up all night, until around five or six in the morning, at which point we decided to head off to bed. Two of my friends stayed in the room outside my room, which has the wood stove and everything, while I stayed in my bedroom.
I was just beginning to doze off, like literally could feel myself just starting to slip entirely out of consciousness when I heard one of my friends cry out, and he came running into my room screaming "Dude, your house is fucken haunted!", over and over again, he was practically hysterical. At first, I kind of laughed at him, like "Yeah, whatever man" thinking he was just messing with me. But I could tell how serious he was about it from his tone and just how he was acting. So, I got up, and went out, it was approximately 6:06 - 6:08am. He told me that as he was laying down on my couch, he was watching the vent directly above it (there's a large grate that gives a clear view to the upstairs floor right in front of my parents room), and he said that a little girls face appeared there, and she was screaming to him urgently, repeating "Help me, help me! I need your help!".
My other friend claims to haven't seen or heard anything, but he was asleep until my friend began yelling, so I don't really know the story there.... The friend this happened to has always seemed kind of prone to this type of thing, and I wasn't really sure if I ever believed him about it until that night, but he seemed totally serious and freaked out about it.
My friend also claims to have woken up several times through the night in his house, and seen the shapes of people as he described it. Figures with the shapes of humans, but without the intricate details such as fingers, and with no facial attributes. He also has a really old family photo, in which you can see a faded image of an unknown man in the background of the picture, and nobody else can identify who this man was or what he was doing there, which is kind of creepy.
I have lots more stories, my family has kind of been in contact with ghosts/spirits quite a bit, dating back to a time when we lived on an island called Devil's Island.... But I'll get into those stories later, when I have more time. You can find some of them in a novel called The Bluenose Ghosts, it's really quite good, it's a collection of true ghost stories that have occured around here on the east coast of Canada.

He told us that once he saw the eyes he grew really scared and jumped it into the front cab where there were 2 other guys sitting. He told them "Hurry up, there's something out there!"
Aparently when they got back to the camp the guide told them that a while ago a guy had tried to make it over the border through the Kruger Park, and near their camp had been mauled by a lion, and had died. There had been a few sightings of the "white thing" as well.
Haha okay I remembered to post. And 13redfan that "white thing" sounds beyond creepy. :shock:
This is a less interesting ghost story, and it's more of a town story then a personal experiance. It starts about 110 years ago, when a poor boy steals bread for his family, and is hung on this huge tree (which was small at the time I guess). The tree is on top of a hill called Belvadere Hill. Now, there are houses on the hill, and it is a relativly pricy area to live. The tree itself continues to grow, but has no leaves. It has 4 or 5 branches total. It's big, and almost a stereotype of a scary tree. Now it's been cut down, but before, people noticed some strange things. People standing near the tree, which was near a path to get to the beach, often heard soft crying. At night, sometimes screaming and running footsteps on the road, although this could be just kids, (Not many kids in my town go to bed lol :content: ) as I said it is a pricy area and this is unlikly. Sometimes people saw a small boy carrying "something" running down the street.
I was intrigued by these stories, so I went to check it out. I didn't "feel" anything, not even the usual "freaked-outedness". None the less we took pictures of the tree. I had also taken control pictures before and after the visit. When the pictures developed, there were orbs on the pictures of the tree, and none on the other pictures. Any pictures with people and the tree, had more orbs near people.
It was about 3 am in the morning, in a possibly haunted house, in the freezing cold lounge that the guy told the story. It was creepy then!!!Quote:

My first story happened to myself, and it is the only one I have experienced in person (if you except a flickering bulb here and there;) ).
I was young, maybe around 6 or 7. My bedroom is right under the roof, and there's a window in the roof itself, with a streetlamp right behind it. At night, when I didn't cover it with a cushion, there was a path of light on the carpet neart the foot of my bed.
That one night for some reason I couldn't get to sleep. At some point I saw a black shadow-thing crawl very quickly across the patch of light and then disappear. It looked in shape like a spider, or a ball of wool with legs. It was black and had no visible texture because it was so dark, darker than the darkness around me.
After a few seconds it jumped at my throat and clung to my skin with 2 legs/fingers. It wasn't properly trying to strangle me, but I was terrified anyway, so I tore it away from my neck and threw it away, probably onto the floor. It was back on my neck in less than a second, far too quickly to be natural (almost as if it had been linked to my neck with an elastic band or something).
I tore it away and threw it on the floor at least seven,eight times, until suddenly it touched the carpet in the patch of light and disappeared for good, as if it had been absorbed by the floor.
I was too terrified to move. I was afraid that if I touched the floor with my feet, the thing would reappear and attack me again. I stayed in my bed all night and in the morning, until my parents came in the kitchen and I could call them.
Of course they didn't believe me and refused to let me move to another bedroom. So I just avoided to step on that patch of carpet for years.
However this is the only weird thing that happened in my bedroom. Sometimes my parents hear footsteps in it, even though I live hundreds of miles from there now, but this has always happened. The attack of the shadow spider was the only threatening paranormal event. Only 1 person can potentially haunt my house, and it is my great grandfather who died in it, but althoug he lived in my bedroom, he died in the kitchen, down the stairs from my bedroom. And I don't see why he would have attacked me.
I'm also pretty sure it wasn't a dream. I've never been the kind of child that has nightmares, and the dreams I had never took place at home.
OMG! I've killed a thread! Come on people, where are you ghost stories?
Well, here'si one that happened to my grand mother. Apparently she was some sort of medium, or very sensitive to the afterlife, like her mum was. She had some experience in her youth, but because of her religious education she seems to have been traumatized and refuses to try again.
A few dozen years ago, her family shared their house with another owner. It's a semi-detached if you want, but in no way comparable to British ones - it was just one huge house shared between 2 owners.
Anyway, the other owner, Camille, who was a grumpy old man, died. That evening, while my grandmother's family was at the dinner table, still under the shock of his death, someone knocked at their backdoor very loudly. After a few seconds of shock, my grandmother went and opened the door: there was nobody there.
For a very good reason: 1 - that door opened on the back garden. Only them and Camille had access to the garden, which is surrounded by 250cm/8ft tall walls. 2 - that door was never used because it was 50cm/2ft above the ground (the steps had been demolished).
My grandmother is convinced it's Camille's soul who 'greeted' them on its way to the sid. Shortly after, while she was climbing up the stairs to the 1st floor, (the staircase was common to them and Camille), she felt a very strong presence behind her, while there was, once again, nobody. Since then she's been going up there as little as she could, she was really scared of it.
This is a really interesting thread, and I would like to read more of your stories. I have never had a paranormal event happen to me before. Sometimes I see things in the dark that look like faces, but if I decide it looks like something else it will start to look like what I think it is. The faces in some of your stories might be an illusion, but some of those stories really freaked me out!:eek:

i have a story but it happened to my mam.
she said ever since her mam died when she was nine, every so often she said she would be ina peacefull sleep (really peacefull) then she said she would get a sharp thud on her chest and it would wake her up immediatley.
she told me one morning (2006) that she was in the most peacefullist sleep she has ever had and the sameting happened but this time she said so was so at peace she didnt open her eyes for about 30 seconds and when she did she said she say a woman with long dark hair hovering over her. she said she disapeared straight away, but gave her such a shock she hardly slept all night.
i asked her who she thought it was? she thinks its her mam? i asked her why would she do that though? she said she doesnt know.
i do feel a prescence in the house and i dont like to be there alone. (was glad when i moved out)
any ideas what it could all mean?

I thought It would be interesting to post some actual Ghost stories or Events that have happened to you or someone you know.. I got this idea because i was visiting some old friends of mine...Ive known these people since i was like 13 (im 22 now) and I knew their daughter has long as I knew them..She ended up dieing in a car accident last just over a year ago..
Now the mother was telling me that her Daughter (who is in the 7th grade) and her son (who is going into 9th grade) Came to her on seperate occasions and asked if they could speak to her privately..
So the mom took the Daughter into the bedroom and asked what she wanted to talk about.. She said that "Tracey came to visit me last night.. I had woken up in the middle of the night and I saw her in a white dress on her knee's by the foot of my bed praying.. She had gotten up and walk outta the room..I got up to go see but no one was there.."
Now she didnt think much of it until the Son came to her later that day and asked if they could talk in private..she again said yes, and he had told her "I saw Tracey...Tracey came to visit.."
Now the two events were on different days...The strange this is..Is the mom had a dream after the events (not soon after) but with in a months time, where She was talking to her daughter who died in the accident, and the mom could feel herself waking up and was like "Cant You stay a little bit longer"
And Tracey said "No Mother....Because your waking up..."
I guess one of her friends at her job had a dream, and Tracey was in it and she told her to tell her family not to be sad and that everything is ok...
I had talked to the mom about all this stuff 2 days ago..
Now I have had my own 2 seperate incidents
One day I was in my bedroom on my xbox 360 and my step mom had ran to the store.. She was gone for 30mins and I had stayed in my room the whole time..She came home and had asked me if i had been up stairs, i told her no, and asked her why..She told me because the Tredmill was on and it was moving at a slow pace.....
Just recently when i came back home from a small vacation (a day ago) at dinner time i hear from my step sisters that while i was gone they were in the bathroom (our bedrooms are connect by a bathroom) They were like doing their make-up or something and all of a sudden my TV would turn on...They went over and shut it off...a couple minutes later, it would turn back on..They went, shut it off..and a few more minutes later, it came on again...They shut it off and it didnt happen again...
Now Im not sure if my 2 incidents are GHOST or what not..Its just strange coincidence's, I cant prove to you that they were ghost..Another thing that leaves it as a WEIRD is because our house is new... We are the first people to be living in it.. Its over 4,000 square feet..So it doesnt have much of a history....
So the top part of this about my friend is a GHOST incident.. my 2 incidents I cannot prove, but thought I would share...Maybe my incidents is my good friend trying to visit me...After all, they say Ghost (Entity's) Manifest themselves through electrical objects hence:TV/Tredmill..

Actually it doesn't really matter whether the house is new or not. Because you don't know what's buried in the ground it was built on. I lived in haunted house for 5 years, the house was brand new and we were the first ones who lived in it. But the area that the neighborhood had been built was right near the Spanish Trail, a route Native Americans use to take. So I believe that many of those that died during the trip were buried in that area.Quote:

Anyway, my girlfriend's aunt and uncle went on holiday recently somewhere in South Africa, on the same day as the Super 14 final (if any of you watch rugby you'll know) and they stopped at this hotel which had a tent with the game on.
So they get a room (room 13) and while they're sitting at the bar they hear that room 11 (the one next to theirs) is apparently haunted by an old prostitute who would sit waiting for a lover to come back from the Boer war, and on some nights at around 2 in the morning you could hear her wailing.
So they get to their room, and one of the window frames is a bit loose, and bumping around in the wind. They put a whole lot of wads of toilet paper in behind the frame to stop it moving, to stop the noise (it was airtight, in her words).
At about 1:30am the uncle wakes up feeling a bit funny, like a weird atmosphere in the room. He looks over and his wife is sitting awake looking at the window frame strangely, and he looks over there and the window frame is moving around, bumping like it's loose in the wind, but all the toilet paper is still holding it firm.
Then about 5 minutes later they hear this wailing coming from the balcony of the room next door :o

Anyways, my friend smoked meth for the very first time, and at around 3 in the morning he decided to walk home (which was an extremely far walk) but not before stopping by at my house. He started throwing rocks at my window, but freaked out when my mom turned on the light and decided to run to the adjacent cement path. He ran down the path and looked back up, and saw a white figure standing there at the top.
Thinking it was my mom, he tried to hide behind some trees, but the white figure just stood there, staring at him. When my friend crouched, the figure would crouch, and when my friend stood, the figure would stand. My friend stared at the figure for a good twenty minutes before he ran away. The twenty minutes is what ruled out the hallucination possibility; a meth hallucination wouldn't be that still for twenty minutes.
Anyways, he told me about it, saying it was my mom, but my mom never said anything about going outside or hearing rocks against the window. When I asked my friend where he was when he had stopped at the path, he said it was right behind a yellow house.
Well, turns out the yellow house was the haunted house on the street, and the white figure was one that another friend used to see when he lived there.
I don't really know if this counts (probably me just over-reacting to nothing). Anyway, I was alone in the house - my parents were off on holiday and my sisters were both out - and I was emptying the dishwasher. I put a glass on the table that the dishwasher was under and left it there as I carried on with everything else. About ten seconds later the glass slid slowly across the (admitedly slightly wet) table and moved about a foot across. My first theory was that the surface was uneven and caused the glass to slide down a small unnoticable slope on the table. I used my dads level on it a bit later on and it was perfectly flat. I'm probably stupid for thinking that this has anything to do with ghosts, but I've just never seen something move like that on it's own. I don't know - does it sound normal for something to be able to move like that across a slightly damp tabletop because of a slope that can't even be noticed using a level?
Oh i shall put something thats been happening right now to me( as in the last few days, not this second).
I've never had anything weird in my house before...but things are starting to happen, unusually in the day. I'm home alone now as im on hols and my mum is working. Anyway i keep hearing quite loud banging noises, maybe 3 a day, not the cats and neighoburs are on hols.
Also i was going to the cinema yesterday, i was late and was in a hurry and stressed out cos my hair was still wet. Anyway i had the news on quite on the TV. When im bent over looking at the comp screen(msn) i hear a womans voice whispering(but kinda loud) " Hurry up, hurry up". It cant have been the news because it was one guy talking and they woulndt let you here people whipsering in the background. It sounded like it was coming from my bedroom door anyway, but there as no one there.
Although im a mega skeptic i have asked out loud in day and night, if anyone is there can they show themselves or make two bangs on the wall. But no response, its kinda weird though, im not scared, just its weird.

There's this stoplight intersection. I think someone died there because there's a small memorial there. When I'm driving home late at night during the 1AM hour I get the red light, and the WALK light turns on for the other direction. It's strange because no one is around and no cars are there either.
It only happens during the 1AM hour.

Since I just replied to a post about Ouija boards, I'll talk about one of my experiences. I was in the 6th. grade. My friend Sherry and I were playing with the Ouija board and we started to ask it questions about itself. No one else was home.
The spirit said her name was Sandra Woodlawn and that she was burned at the stake for witchcraft when she was 17 years old and that it happenned in 1918. (a date definitely too late for that to have actually happenned)
Anyway we asked her for proof of her existence. The Ouija board spelled out "go to basement", "hold hands","wait 5 minutes". So we did all that but we ran out of the basement in a few seconds scared to death. We went back to the Ouija board and told it "to make the time shorter". It spelled out "count to 10"
So we went to the basement, held hands at the foot of the stairs and counted to 10 out loud. As soon as we said 10, we heard a long scratch on the wall by the door that sounded like it went from ceiling to floor!(like someone scratching their fingernails on a blackboard.)
We ran out of the basement screaming of course. I was afraid of what was in the basement(it was my house) so we asked the Ouija board how to get rid of it. It spelled out "pour water in a circle around the pole". So I filled a pitcher with water and Sherry wouldn't go back down there with me but she was kind enough to stand at the door and watch for me. I zipped down the stairs, poured water around the pole and raced back up the stairs and Sherry slammed the door behind me. We looked under the door into the basement and in the corner of the room there was steam rising.
I didn't play with a Ouija board again for about 10 years.

One thing, I'm not sure it was a ghost, but when I was in grade school I saw a white ball of light dancing outside my upper bedroom window. Not knowing what the hell it was I was scared and didn't say anything about it to anyone for a while. When I did mention it my sister (who shared the bedroom with me) said she'd seen the same thing but didn't say anything because she was scared.

well theres a little starter before i get in to the storie as you will have no idea whats going on ....i was in my room one night and i disided to see if there were any orbs in there by recording it....nothing was there so i just played back the vidio and it was all blurry as if it has a really bad megerpixles and it looked as if there was a face figer starinh right in to it. so i was like okaii then and went to bed.... then in the middle of the night i woke up and my flashing badge was flashing so i got up and switched it off and went back to sleep. then a few hours later it was on again i turnt it off not even thinking about the vidio earler that evening. i showed my friend at school the vidio and she was like omg when i come over we will recorde it again i was like ok. be fore she came over a few weird things started happening.. my flonny ( like a ballon filled with flower with eyes you can make faces out of) was smiling and i was like wtf so i asked my brothere did you move it he was like no ? my tiara sits on my shelfs and it was on the floor, all my pens were all over my desk and yeah.....when my friend slept over we both got out our camras and stared filming. she whatched hers back before i did and she was like omg rhianne look at this we played it again as i watched every thing was black in my room. the cammra moves along to the door and the hallway light is on so you can see but its flashing green and red. it turns away and you can see a flash of skin. the cammra moves aroundand you can see a figer standing in a hoodish thing it looks aroung and you can see its face slightly it smiles an evil smile and thats the end of the vidio. we ran out of the room into were my brother was we showed him the vidio and droped the camra on the bed i sad delet it!!!! but no one would touch the camra then my brother deleted it.then we all sat talking and the we all got a pain like a stich in the stde closest to the window in our stomachs. after a bit me and trudi went to sleep n the spare room as we went i tryed to turn on the light it wouldnt turn on so we left it and got into be then the light was flikering on and off really fast. i was feed up with this so i turnt off the light and asked the spirt to go to were it was supost to be and to leave this house. then we went to bed it never cam back...
Within the last six months, I have been having numerous dreams - some lucid, most not - in which I am helping earth-bound spirits cross over.
In these dreams, I always go to the same place: a bed and breakfast somewhere where the inn keeper knows me and knows that I come there to help Spirits continue their journey.
I believe this "inn keeper" is actually either an Angel or other Spirit Ally, because she has helped me on a few occasions when the troubled spirit didn't want to go.
In any event, in one dream, I arrived at the B&B and was met by the inn keeper who told me that there were several new spirits here.
I checked into my usual room and was immediately in the presence of the spirit of a little girl about 7 or 8 years old. She was caucasion, had long, dark, brown hair, was dressed in what looked like a nightgown and was holding a long-eared stuffed bunny with a pink nose and pink satin inside the ears.
I tried to talk to her, but when I approached her she disappeared.
I then went out to the garden where I encountered a very hostile spirit. It appeared to be a white man in his late forties, early fifties with coarse salt and pepper hair, about two days worth of stubble on his face, and dressed in a blue and white checkered shirt, dark pants (I think denim, but not sure) and black work boots. He was about 5'10" and probably about 180-185 lbs.
He grabbed me by the shirt and started to pull me towards him as if he was going to attack me. At this point, I should say that in this dream I was a woman, and a pretty big, rough looking guy like that was pretty scary.
I could smell his sour breath as he jerked me toward him. I grabbed his hands on my shirt and could feel how thick his fingers were and how rough and callused his hands were. He let me know that he was a rapist.
Even though I was afraid, I kept calm and asked him how he had died. He didn't want to talk at first but I kept asking him questions about his death. I asked him if it was sudden or if he had been sick. I asked him if he knew he was dead. His anger began to dissolve and uncertainty replaced it.
He showed me a lot of blood. I asked him if he had bled to death. When the vision of the blood had cleared, he wasn't a middle-aged man any more, he was an 18 year old boy.
He said that he had raped a girl and that one of her older male relatives (I wasn't sure if it was a father, or an uncle or an older brother or what, but it was an older male relative) had caught him and castrated him and then left him to bleed to death.
I told him that it was time to cross over. He was very scared but seemed like he would go.
I turned us towards the back of the garden waiting for the gateway to open but it didn't happen.
The inn keeper came from behind me and said, "Here, let me help." She waved what looked like a wand (not a sparkly fairy princess kind of wand, but more like a stick or a Harry Potter kind of wand) and a column of sparkling light appeared at the back of the garden.
I walked the young man back towards the gateway. When he got to it, instead of stepping in, he looked in and then just kind of cringed and ran away.
I looked into the gateway and saw two figures there waiting to receive him. They didn't acknowledge me, but as soon as I registered them, the dream ended.
NOW... here comes the kicker....
About two weeks later, it was just before Christmas and my family and I were at a shopping mall finishing up our shopping. My daughters had their allowance money and wanted...no... NEEDED to spend it before they just busted! So my wife took them to one of their favorite stores; Build-a-Bear Workshop.
I wasn't particularly engaged so I was just kinda wandering around off in my own little world when I hear my wife say to our six year-old, "Honey, you can get that one if you want to, but it will take ALL your money and you won't be able to get any clothes or accessories for it." My daughter responded, "But Mommy, I REALLY want THIS one!"
I glance over to see what all the fuss is about and felt like I had just been kicked in the gut. There was my beautiful six-year old daughter, whom I love more than life itself, holding the EXACT same bunny as the little spirit girl from my dream.
Please understand, I don't mean a bunny that kinda looked like it; I mean the EXACT SAME bunny. Same pink nose, same pink satin in the ears... SAME BUNNY.
I wanted to scream at her, "NO!! Put it down! Don't touch that! Run away!!" But I couldn't talk and somehow, I knew that she was supposed to have that bunny. I know I must have looked like hell, because my wife looked at me and said, "What's wrong?? You look like you've seen a ghost!"
All I could manage to do was shrug my shoulders, turn around and walk out of the store.
I told my wife later that the bunny was freaking me out and that I had seen it in a dream, but I never have, nor will I ever tell her the rest of the dream or the context in which I saw the bunny.

I know one of the ghosts is a cat (probably one of a few who have died) because my cat always stares at nothing or follows things many times a day. Like for example she will be on the bed and she will be staring at a certain area on the floor for a long period, and it's not just the fact she looks at it it's the expression on her face (intense focus) and you can't distract her.
The ghost seems to have certain places it likes to go.

There is also a ghost that isn't an animal in the house who also has certain places it goes, and one of my cats always talks to people (will makes noises) and if it's sitting on the floor downstairs in the night sometimes it will look up at human height (as if it were looking at someone ) and make a noise/s (exactly like it does to people) i also hear noises all the time on the t.v computers, and pretty much everywheres. I go cold suddenly in closed doors with sometimes tingling or there will be a sudden breeze, or there will be a sudden coldness on a part of my face which will spread up my face, i will also have a strong feeling there is a presence standing over me. (often in bed)

As i walked put the room the t.v knocked off
My cat dived up and stared behind her for about 30 seconds when there was nothing near it.
I felt something poke me really hard which made me jumpa mile, i was sure it was my brother who would be hiding somewhere but he was in bed (only one in the house)
Objects, clothes falling on floor without any wind or anything near it.
Light came on by itself
There are many more
As i am typing this i have gone extremely cold and i am tingling in certain parts of my body, and i have a strong strong feeling of a presence/s standing very close by. (feeling very uncomfortable right now)

Encounters with ghosts should be as normal as ever. They are here watching us, and we are here to spot them.
Millions of people encounter them, what will we believe in, a terrorist who noone saw before such as "Usama Bin Ladin" or our own human population and its experiences. Counting the millions. I had some experienced with ghosts on my own. Its fascinating ! i will post my story's later on.
I haven't had a ghost experience yet really but I have a cool one to tell about my mom.
It wasn't really a ghost, but rather someone in her head telling her something. When she was a little girl (about 7) she woke up in the morning and heard a voice telling her "Debbie go check on your dog." She ignored it and went on with whatever she was doing. Again, she heard "Debbie, go check your dog!" in a more serious tone. She finally went out to check on her puppy, who at the time was on one of those dog runs that don't allow dogs to run into the road. When she went out, she found her dog, lifted off its feet, being strangled by its own leash. (No, someone didn't do it, the dog simply tangled itself up). She ran in to get her dad (my grandfather) to cut the rope and free the dog.
She saved the dogs life no doubt, kind of weird having voices in your head like that, right? Somehow this was brought up again in a conversation and she is pretty positive it was her passed on grandmother telling her to check her dog.
I don't really find it freaky, but cool.
