Anyone Else Think About Not Getting Married?...

I think a lot about if I want to get married. If I get married I'll lose a lot of freedoms and won't be able to do certain things. I'll have to settle down and think about what my wife needs.

But if I don't get married I'll miss out on what that's like and it'd be nice to have someone else in the world that really cares about you. And you won't become lonley and crazy when you turn into an old grey person. You'll have someone to grow old with.

I'm not sure of whether or not I want to get married but marriage seems like something you're "supposed" to do in life.

Anyone else think about this?

Don't worry about it, dude. Seriously. If marriage is right for you, you'll find out. And even if you don't get married, it isn't the end of the world. I mean, you love yourself, right? YOu'll have plenty of friends that are growing old alongside of you, and you always have your family.

When it comes right down to it, what's marriage but a tradition? The only reason marriage becomes an issue is when the person that you love feels it's an issue, then it's something you should both talk out, taking into consideration each other's feeling on the matter.

You should never get married just because you may feel "obligated" to. I plan on getting married someday, but I'm in no hurry. It's no more important, to me, than expressing your honest love and dedication to another person, regardless of whether or not there are rings on your fingers.

Just because you get married doesn't mean you'll be with that person forever. If I believed in marriage, I'd be married and divorced like five times by now. But I feel like I'm married because I've been with the same person for ten years. I think it's crazy to willingly add unneccessary legal complications to your life. I really have never understood why so many people do it.

(Conversation with my Dad--
Me: I think you need to go out with somebody like for a year before you really know them.
Him: No, you don't really know someone until you marry them.
Him a few years later: No, when you divorce somebody, that is when you really get to know them.)

Married or not, any long term relationship you're in requires all the things marriage does, in my opinion. To me, marriage is merely a legally binding contract whereby your partner and you are seen as one in the eyes of the law. You don't just automatically start thinking about the needs of your partner once you're married, you should be doing that before you're married. The spiritual connection should already be there. That's how i view it anyway.

As for me, i used to think i didn't want to get married. My beleifs don't align with any ceremonial marriage or anything, so i didn't think it was for me. But i've since thought it would be nice to make a relationship that official, that symbolically solid. Even though, as i said, it wouldn't make me change the way i approach or feel for my partner. At least i don't think it would. So maybe the registry office is for me :P

Ive seen how married people act. The woman mooches of the man's money and sucks his soul dry. She continues this activity and occasional sex. The man phenes for this occasional sex so he continues to impress the lady with rings, gifts, and vacations. The mans soul is sucked completely dry and tries to constantly out do himself by doing everything the woman wants for hope of more sex. The woman keeps her sexual pace of semi-abstinance forcing the man into a spiral of the aforementioned behavior, resulting in what we call being "pussy whipped"

Wow. That's pretty fucking ignorant. I don't think you 'know' half of the stuff you think you do. Marriage is not all about sex and the lack therof, and not all marriages are comprised of the sick games you have described above. I would even venture to say that most are not. You are pretty cavalier to down the woman, but it takes two people to ruin a marriage, and let me be the first to tell you that men are just as much a part of the problem in the marriages as women. I suggest that before you go yelling your sexist bullshit at people, you make sure you know something about the topic. You apparently know nothing about love.

This may sound ignorant of me, but I sorta plan to be dead before I have the chance to become "old." I'm not to crazy over the idea of slowly passing away, feeling yourself get weaker, slower in terms of mental function, and the usual symptoms. (I do realize that there are a lot of "healthy" old people who aren't affected by this, but I think I'm safe in saying the majority do.) Besides, I'm sorta known for doing stupid stuff and I plan on join the military in some form, so..anyway.

But I wouldn't worry about it, if I were you. There's a good chance you'll be dead before you have to worry about it anyway...Not exactly sure that's comforting. >_>;

EDIT: By the way, you can still grow old with a person and not be married, from what I've seen marriage screws the majority of couples up.

That's very true..And marriage is not for everyone's tastes. But, it is a viable option for those who do want to be together also.

If you REALLY want to be lonely, then get married.

Nothing is more socially isolating than a jealous and possessive spouse.

Single People actually have more active social lives than married people.

If you want to grow old and you are happy sitting at home, then that is what makes you happy. But if you decide you don't want to be lonely, then off you can go to the races or anywhere you like, with no spouse to hold you back.

Crazy, I was just telling my mom yesterday about this girl I used to work with who said she didn't want to live past the age of 30. She just wanted to party until then and then she didn't care what happened to her after. I mean, 30?!?!?!? What the hell?

If I were to get married, I'd want 30 to be the absolute earliest that I did it. For now it's beer, pills, and football hooliganism running alongside the BBC.

Oh, hell no. I want to live past thirty and I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs and never am. What I meant was that I don't really think living past 40-50 would be all that great. I mean, like I said, you find yourself getting weaker and all.

You make a good point. If you die at 30 you lose out on two thirds of your life, I'd say it's when you reach 60 that things get really bad. To me, 60 is the official "old person" border line.

To be honest, you're missing out. The occasional smoke, snort, or swallow (hehehe) makes the world go round. It fills what would be the most horrible place you could imagine into nothing but sunshine and daisies :) .

Yea getting old would suck. Getting to the point where you cant walk and your grown-up kids have to change your diapers everyday.
