      What is Deja Vu?

I just figured I'd get some members opinions on here. After a chat with wer about it, I figured I'd see what you all think. I've got no clue really. I haven't even got a guess per se. Maybe you all have some sort of intelligent guess about it?

Some believe that it is spiritual in nature. Some believe that it is a precognitive sign.
Some see it as a glimpse of the future.

I feel that it is a cross over of the hundreds of similar, often confidential recognitions of previous events. Intertwined with the flow of the ongoing now.
Thousands of similar in circumstance events that spark your memory of a past event that has the same properties of our perspective.

Memories are stored in the brain as a chemical signature of a combination of sound, sight, smell, feel, etc.. If you encounter a situation extremely similar or identical situation, your brain searches itself and finds that same/very similar chemical signature (a natural survival reaction)

With dejavu, the reason it feels so wierd, is because you have lived a very similar experience before, and also at the time of dejavu. It is simply a brain fart when your brain confuses a former memory with a current event because the chemical signatures are extremely similar.

Unfortunately for the superstitious, there is nothing magical or precognitive about it. Sorry...
      I hope this helps

If you're literally asking because you don't know, it's hard to explain, Universal. It's like when you see something, and you could swear and be totally positive that you've seen it before. I was watching a TV show today, and suddenly it felt very familiar. Then I could know exactly what was going to happen next in the show as though I had seen it before. But I never watch any of the science channel documentaries, or just documentaries in general.

That's why I'm confused. I don't know what happened. But I knew what was going to happen in the show a half second before it did for a period of about 6 seconds.

I was joking. I asked the question twice. I have experienced it a bunch, but I don't experience it as much as I used to. But when I have it now, it is far more intense than it used to be. I think it is an incredible experience. I wish I could find a way to have intense deja vu for an hour at a time.

There have been a few studies about deja-vu. I read it in a psychology article. I forgot what it was exactly, but Deja-Vu's are just your mind making a mistake. All it really takes to have a deja-vu is to have some 'recognition' (the ones that say "hey man, we recognize something") nerve cells to be stimulated.

Deja-Vu = mind static. Or something. Nothing super-duper.

And to rainman, on his personal experience: Try to pause the show, then write down what is going to happen. You aren't going to score above average. Just because it Feels like you know what is coming, doesn't know you actually know it. Sometimes, I think I recognize a song, and in my head I try to predict the notes. Even if they are Totally off, the notes I do hear in the song, I pretend to have know anyhow. Total bullshit, I just didn't know the song.

Don't trust your brain all the time.

At times I have recognized deja vu as something I had seen in a precognitive dream; it feels like deja vu at first, but then I remember the dream and the contents.

At other times it is like Neruo said: simply recognition. I have had deja vu many times in the same spot so it's pretty obvious that I do not change my rooms often

In fact both of the above are the same; recognition in any case.
