I think I need to try this.
I mean that seriously too. I have engaged in psychological experiments before, in real life and on forums. Even on this very forum. But nothing to this magnitude... though I've always wanted to.
I will actually undertake this experiment. I'll use this thread to document it and report how it goes.
You don't need to go through with it to know that lie would cause extreme guilt. I really hope no one actually does this, lest the experimenter be a real heartless bastard. Seriously, this isn't science. Find something better to do with your time.
Good idea, I wonder what would happen but y'know what maybe it would work better on myspace.
I never said I would go through with the experiment. I know it would cause extreme guilt. But do I really know that? They could shrug it off as a joke, or simply not care...
Note that I do not take suicide lightly, and I am not a heartless experimentor. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you probably think I'm sick for laying it out with such detail, as if I was going to go through with it. The truth is, you have thoughts like these every day, and, since your mind runs ahead of you, you would, in a few seconds, have come to these lengths in planning it out, if not word for word.
And don't say you don't just to push me out further in my "heartlessness." You know you do. You can casually converse it with your friends and not feel a shred of guilt.
Anyway, so goes the life of a social experimentor, although I am not one. I find it very depressing.
Anybody who does that is despicably evil. It is sick enough just to try to influence people to try that horrible act. Do you really want people going the rest of their lives thinking they influenced somebody to commit suicide? Why be that terrible of a person? Instead of doing that, why not just round people up and torture them or run over some old ladies?
There is nothing experimental about it. Don't give me that shit. As Gestalt said, you already know what the result would be. It is just a matter of doing something awful to people's lives. That's all it is, and you know it.
Dragonoverlord, if you still have any interest in presenting the picture that you actually have some good in you, you will retract what you just said.
God****, don't be so narrow minded. I NEVER said I would go through with it, you twit! Look to my above post! This could be a social experiment in itself for all you know! I am really disappointed in you. Go direct your rambling toward perverted horror directors.
And if you think I do these things in my spare time, retract that from your mind as well.
You made me swear, too.
EDIT: And, if that doesn't convince you, I posted a thread on whether or not it was ethical to kill butterflies for a collection (fancy that, a heartless bastard who debates whether or not to kill a butterfly, he feels so bad) AND stated in advance that this was malicious INCLUDING posting a warning.
So I'm sorry if I've offended anybody. My mistake. Just dont label me so you can step yourself up on the moral ladder. (And in the esteem of your fellow forum-users)
While that statement may have seem abrasive, so is being called a heartless bastard. I don't want a flame war. Why can't we all be happy?

There is a difference between presenting a terrible concept as just an entertaining concept that nobody takes seriously and encouraging people to go through with it. Your first post is an encourgement, and don't even try to deny it. Also, you know people are much more okay with hurting people emotionally than they are with hurting people physically. The likelihood that people will go along with your idea is far greater than the likelihood that people will go through with what they see in Saw or something. You already have a few people in this thread saying they would like to do what you encouraged. If people do that, the others they talked to on the internet are not guaranteed to go back to the site again. What if they commit suicide themselves? Are you some frustrated kid trying to lash out at grown ups or something? This thread is pathetic. Try not to get grounded.
Hey im not retracting anything, I just said its a good idea (as in for a social expriement), whats the big deal? He seemed to put quite a bit of thought into it for a social expirement and it seems well thought out and i said "good idea" lol im a monster for saying that. Its not like im even gonna try it anyway.
Don't take things to seriously jeeze is just an idea.
The big deal is that it could hurt people so bad they need years of therapy. Would that matter to you at all? And stop saying it would be just an "experiment". That's ridiculous. You could go cut off the arms of four year olds and see how they react as just an "experiment". Would that make it okay? Well, maybe you would think so if they are Israeli children. What a crock of shit.
Okay but can her name be something other than Anna? :P
Wait what am I saying, nobody do this. Exo, don't do this. This is serious toying with human emotions. Who knows, maybe you'll make some psychopath feel guilty to the point of suicide. Would the experiment still have been worth it then?
You would effectively learn through doing this that people can get angry and upset on message boards. The thing is, you can look around and see that already.
Malicious and useless. Of course this has been grounded in I think.
if there is one thing I hate and loathe on the internet - its something that ruins the trust.
its horrible for anyone to pretend to be someone they aren't on the internet. the large majority of people online, at least in an interest based forum like this, are being honest. normally its easy to spot the liars, because they are immature 12 year olds and act like it. but for an adult to do something like this, damages the online community more than hostile attacks. because then it creates doubt, that you can even trust what the next person says
at least the hostile attacks are honest, and you know there is a living breathing thinking emotional being on the other line
I have personally met an online friend - with no fear that she wasn't who she said she was. I knew she was, because of our conversations
conversations are real. whether on the phone, in person or online. they are real. they need to be treated as real.
this kind of experiment is really just a question, an answered question for people to think about
Just like we pave over the habitats of animals to make our highways and cities, so too must humans be spent on science. All in the name of progress.
I was once associated with a depression message board. Someone killed themselves there because of some drama there or something (I left soon after). Anyhow, there are people out there who are on their last leash so the idea of toying with people is low.
I was saying what if it happened, not for anyone to do it, and stated my apprehension at doing something so traumatic. So, you had my warning, my caution, my apprehension, and my apology. What do you want? If someone wanted to traumatize somebody he'll do it. I didn't need to post this if someone really wanted to do it. Do you honestly think this hasn't been thought of before? I was saying what do you think would happen if it did, and clearly stated it was malicious. Who the heck would preform a malicious experiment? Grow up, you infant. And don't you dare try to get a leg up on your feel-good meter by shallowly deposing a philisophical question. "I think Plato's cave theory is evil! Who would chain prisoners to a wall for a lifetime? Sick pervert." So don't think I'm condoning this more than someone posing a moral question. And next time you take the sidewalk, take the gutter.
Could someone come in here and set this straight?
There might have been a time when I was interested in what you had to say, Universal Mind.
To all that disagreed maturely, my sincerest apologies. I have removed the scenario, and realize how people would take offense.
To the rest, well, you might as well grow up now and look me in the eye.
All you need to know is that the post realistically simulated what a death would look like online and questioning the forum's response. Let's go catch some butterflies!
:)
