It could still be the dollar becoming worthless. That seems more likely. i think seeing aliens wouldn't freak people out in ways that much more potent than 9/11, watching people getting burned alive by terrorists and/or our government is pretty intense. If it was just one ship, even if it's impossible to cover up this time I doubr it'll send people into a crazed panic for more than a week. If the ship came and say... dropped off some hostage after performing experiments to turn them into a living pretzel; or maybe hovered over Bush and melted him on live TV, then that would probably do it.

Other than that though, I would assume it'd take an economic disaster to really screw things up.

I am a real psychic unfortunately, you don't know how hard it is to be psychic in a world full of skeptics. The truth is, absolutely nothing special will happen on the 14th. I looked into the future to see and sadly, no aliens, nothing. Just another dull day.

I heard those guys on c2c last night. good stuff.

Here's my prediction of the future: a well-known "channeler" is about to be out of a job, in about 22 days.

It is odd that a "well known" channeler would make such a specific date and not leave any exit holes for him/herself. That being said, I've come to three possibilities. 1. This channeler isn't a scam artist but genuinely believes in these "inter-galactic messages"...but mentally incompetent nonetheless. 2. There might be some merit to this message after all. 3. Something staged is in the works.

I think as a "well-known" he does have his reputation to consider which is completely on the line because no one will ever listen to him again after this if he's wrong. If it was someone with obscurity, hell, why not pick October 14th? Good a day as any to declare a horrible event if in accidentally being right you become famous and probably rich, too from hiring ghost writers to make books for you. After that, though, you can't do it a second time because it's like winning the lottery and if you lose people stop buying the books.

Maybe people stop buying his books so he decided to do this as a last ditch effort to save his career.

Independence Day 2 comes out on October 14th, I bet.

Believing channeling is like believing lucid dreaming, people who do not understand LD think we are mad, vise-versa. Afterall in ld we only have our own word saying it's true, nobodies ever recorded a dream and played it back on TV to show it really is real,prove to me you can lucid dream.

Actually, LaBerge did prove lucid dreaming with an experiment that asked experienced lucid dreamers to indicate their lucidity by moving their eyes a certain way in the dream. This movement was carried out by their real eyes as well, and was picked up by cameras or EEG.

I would like to add, everyone already knows that you can dream, since everyone has. The most important difference is this. No one says lucid dreaming is mystical, magical, or based in reality. Lucid Dreaming is purely in your mind, not from anything else. It is only a concoction made in the mind. Channelers however would like you to believe that what they are doing is in fact something we can rely on and use in reality.

I'm surprised most people don't know that anymore.

And besides that lucid dreaming is extremely easy to believe if you look at it right, it is no different then dreaming about being in school and saying "I am in a school" in the dream, except for your saying "I am in a dream" both are environments that you can be in, both require no supernatural unheard of super power to be aware of it.

I happen to go on a field trip in my digital media arts class on October 14 out taking pictures, maybe I'll get a photo of the mother ship :banana:

But seriously does anyone actually seem convinced this will happen my guess there is around a 0.001% chance.

It helps that everyone dreams, not everyone can put themselves in a transcendental trance.

Also, lucid dreams are entirely internally generated and jive with all known laws of nature, but channelers claim to be receiving external knowledge without any explanation as to how that is physically possible.

We created the laws of nature AROUND our observations about dreaming. If we observed the trascendental state channler's speak of we'd incorporate those into physics as well.

Anyway, the channelers can't seem to agree with each other, this makes me think they're all bullshitting.

You have to be careful here with the meaning of "observe". The way you've stated that, you can very easily fall into a pit of illogic and not realize it.

I think the point was that whatever is going on in the channeler's head is for them alone to experience, whether they are lying or not. It's true that LaBerge has given evidence of lucid dreams, but really its impossible to really 'prove' the existence of dreams at all; at this point. We can show that someone is capable of moving their eyes in a predetermined way while their brain appears to be asleep, but there is no way besides a subjective description to tell what a person actually experiences in a dream. The only reason why we accept that someone isn't lying when they relate the events of a dream to us is because we have experienced the same thing.

I'm not saying the channelers are definitely telling the truth, and I'm sure even if any of them believe they are, many of them are probably lying. What I'm saying is that without the technology to verify their claims, its impossible to really say one way or the other whether its a story or something that is really happening to them. I'm sure that if aliens are watching us, and if they are going to show up on October 14th, then its not that much of a stretch to think that they have the technology or capability to communicate with someone in ways that we can not yet understand.

My point is we see how the world exists and then make natural laws, natural laws don't create the world, the world creates the necessity for us to have natural laws. They are based only on what we've seen so far, so unless you can go through a chaneler's mental processes yourself, you will be unable to prove it does not exist.
