us elections - why vote for him?

The whole world is watching with interest, and with just one day to go, I want to ask all the americans here (actually anybody can join if they want) what is the main issue that they care about when they choose who to vote for as the president. Just to let you know, here (in Greece) the media try to show us that racial issues will be the most important, although I believe that economic crisis and welfare may be more important.

So, I am waiting for some insight in the american / world psyche... :pope:

Domestic regulation policy.

That is, de-regulation especially in allowing for a more free economy. Which is why I like Barr.

Go check out some of the other topics. Racial issues are only important to those who would vote for McCain anyway. The economy is the biggest factor, that and the war in Iraq. that's why Obama won.

Uhhh..... Just as many will probably vote for Obama because he's black than those who won't vote for Obama because he's black.

I think you need to give your ancient voting system an overhaul.

We need it in Canada too.

If McCain wins without more people voting for him we'd better overhaul the system. Everyone remember that even with the rigged election in Florida, Gore still had 30,000 more votes than Bush, but lost the stupid electoral vote.

Let's try to give him a honest answer without having it biased, it's the best way to do it and let him choose his own idea.

I don't think race is the issue, though i see many people at school looking towards Obama more for his charisma and looks then his policies, generally the older population voting for him is more for his policies.

What people are more concerned about is who will be able to pull our country out of this economic issue, Bush does not have a high approval rate (i will not comment my view on this), and so those who do not support him are worried about voting for a man who is being called a "second bush" as they do not know what he will be like, he could be amazing, or horrible. while on the other end people see Obama as a man who can pull us out, but because he is such a young senator they are worried he does not have the political experience to run a country, also the issue of health care comes up which is a issue that varries person to person.

Thats my perspective on it all atleast.

For me, it's someone without blind faith in the Purist model. The purist model, or rather our attachment to it, allowed the last depression to get worse, and worse, and worse.

To an extent, deregulation is a good thing, but our society isn't ready for complete deregulation. The government needs to regulate business to protect the interests of the people, rather than the other way around.

Ron Paul had ideas to implement a more free economy, which is why I like him. Simply deregulating is leaving the economy vulnerable to crooks.

Totally agree.

This is a democratic republic, and yeah, it works as far as senators go. They can bring up issues and decide on laws based on their district's support for said law or issue. But when you're voting for the president, we need to go to direct democracy. It's undemocratic and gives swing states friggin ultimate power to decide. Let's let whoever wants to vote, vote, then count the ballots. Whoever has more votes wins. If someone wins a state they don't get all of the votes, just the ones that were cast toward him. The loser gets the votes they received.

Whoever has more votes when you're done wins.

My main issue is that I want smaller government. Barr is probably a decent choice, but I am going with chuck Baldwin.

2. Economic philosophy
3. Credibility

Obama gets an F on all three. McCain gets better than an F, but he is no honor roll student.

Which is why his support is so large.

1. Joe Biden is the most qualified senator on foreign policy.
2. The democratic philosophy of FDR, JFK, and Clinton created jobs and prosperity. The philosophy of Bush lost jobs and created a huge debt. On a state-by-state basis the democratic philosophies have created the wealth of the northeast and west coast, the conservative philosophy has created the plight of the south and midwest. Stop making assumptions about economics without looking at history.
3. McCain supported Bush 90% of the time. He has credibility?

2. JFK was a big capitalist, and Clinton had a Republican Congress starting two years into his first term. Bush's job losses resulted from the politically correct lowering of loan standards, and you can thank the Democrats for that stupidity.
3. Much more than Obama. At least McCain never became good friends and work buddies with an unrepentant terrorist or had a racist America hater for a spiritual mentor for 20 years. Did you see Obama try to lie about those things? It is beyond me how my country could elect somebody like that. If God forbid we have a terrorist attack or a depression in the next few years, you are going to wish Obama did not get elected. The coffee shop image would seem very trivial and juvenile then.
