Tell me why legalizing drugs would add a 75 billion dollar stimulus to the economy, in the U.S.

I heard legalizing drug use would provide a 75 billion dollar stimulus to the economy. That seems like much more money than I would think. Explain to me why either this figure is wrong, or this figure is right.

Hmm it's probablly close to right. It's really quite simple they would be able to tax drugs. And as such it would all be profit. Essentially think of it this way it's like getting profit off of a crop. In essence they would be making money from selling it. And with quite the consumer base, that's quite a bit of money to be made right there.

Look at the tax revenue from Alcohol. It's insane.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

Well, so many people want drugs, and they don't get the drugs in fear of getting caught, and the illegal dealing doesn't get taxed anyways. If youthink about it, drug dealing is a big business, so many people are a part of it. Allowing people to buy freely would mean more people buying drugs more frequently.
But on the other hand that also mean our population gets decreased=lots of people goez do teh grave.

Eel thats not true actually, in countries where pot and mushrooms are legal the national level of smokers decreased over time, less and less people smoke because its not the forbidden fruit anymore, its just another buzz like beer.

if hardcore drugs were legal I think it should be through rehab clinics or something, not in stores or anything like that...but pot on the other hand should be sold like loose tobacco in smoke shops or cigar stores etc.

People that want to do drugs already do them.

And what does legalizing pot have to do with death, Eel?

No one in the history of ever has died because of cannabis.

If you legalized drugs, it combined would profit the economy more than tobacco or alcohol. Not to mention the benefits.

OP: Legalizing alcohol seemed to provide a boost to the economy. What's the difference?

I never said there was a difference. I only said that the figure seemed high to me, and asked why the figure of 75 billion dollars is accurate.

Anyway, if you'll notice, the topic of alcohol has already been brought up. Or I should say the point your making has already been made.

Where did you get that figure to ask the question in the first place?

I heard it on an online commercial, I think. I remember watching a video online when I heard it. When I searched online I didn't find anything really talking about it.

Edit: Seems like this site talks about it, http://rinf.com/alt-news/contributio...cannabis/2777/ but is only in reference to cannibis, rather than drugs in general. Its figures are considerably lower. But I have no clue who this organization is, or who his sources are, so it is basically just someone rambling.

So you heard a number spouted by an untrustworthy source that wasn't backed up by anything, and you want us to tell you why that number is correct?

      Let me try.

I say that legalizing child prostitution will provide a 100 billion dollar stimulus to the Singapore economy. Why is this number incorrect or correct?

Because those two things are so similar. Guess what, when you don't like a thread, you don't have to enter it. I know, amazing concept right?

And, in fact, if someone actually said that to you, then you would have a legitimate reason to ask for information about the truthfulness of the claim.
