The old saying Blood is thicker than water mentality along with two other examples has really gotten to me lately because it has personally effected me.
• My brother is a rapist but I will stand by him why? Because he is my blood brother?
• I am a cop, so regardless of the reckless behavior and abuse of power, I will stand behind my partner.
Why??
Can someone explain this mentality to me?
United we stand devided we fall maybe.

Goodness is thicker than blood.
I would still love a family member if he/she(:confused:) were a rapist, but I would at least try to have the person committed. I would work really hard to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Cops who don't report corruption are complete scum. I don't even consider them real cops.

Well, not all of them, but unfortunately the people who want to do that for a living have something really wrong with their personalities in most cases. It is a chance for rednecks to finally feel some power in the world, and they abuse the Hell out of it.
I am also really pissed right now because my brother got harassed by cops the other night over nothing. The idiots pulled him over the moment he pulled out of a restaurant parking lot, refused to ever tell him why they were fucking with him and got mad as Hell when he asked, tore his car apart and found nothing and acted pissed that they found nothing, gave him a field sobriety test that he passed, acted pissed that he passed, still tried to get him to beathe into a breathalyzer, and gave him a DUI refusal charge when he would not do it. He got taken to the station and had to pay a $300 bond to get out plus $125 to get his car back. He might lose his license for a while and get his name in the paper. The cops in the safe areas around here are a much bigger problem than criminals are. The cops are bored, so they fuck with every day folks over absolutely nothing. I am really fed up with it.
hmmm, on the contrary, I think it's appropriate to disown even a family member if they cross a certain line.
but then again, I wouldn't know how I'd feel unless someone close to committed a crime as atrocious as rape.

Well, you have to really think about it. A lot of us probably haven't been in the situation where a family member did something like rape. In any case I am sure I wouldn't be able to stand by anyone if they had done that. Now that I think about it, it also depends on how close you are to this family member..
I definitely wouldn't be able to continue loving someone though. In fact, I'd hate them. Speaking from experience here.

This whole thing is a disease of society which goes a lot deeper than just standing by people who are close to you in some way who transgress your moral boundaries and commit injustices.
The problem is that people tend to treat people depending on what they are, not who they are.
