I've always thought of the issue of Global Warming as being extremely politicized and therefore it would be hard to sift through what was politically charged propaganda (for lack of a better word) and what was accurate.
"edit" watching the video, will comment after i've seen the first part.
Can you provide a discussion point as well as a link to the full video?
I would rather leave it very open. I don't want to limit the discussion to anything other than the general subjects of global warming, the politics involved, and the claims made in the documentary.
Each next part of the video is to the right of each video. For example, Part 2 is to the right of the screen for Part 1.
Hard... sure makes you think (hadn't heard this yet).
There's plenty wrong with this 'documentary', but suffice it to say a couple of the scientists in it claim they were mis-quoted and poorly edited to make their opinions conform to the premise of the film. Also, some of the graphs you see in the show are completely fabricated because "the public doesn't want to see lots of squiggly lines". The director is a very angry man who displays little if any professionalism. Take a quick read of the criticism page on the wiki:

Yeah, I thought there would be some scientists making claims like that. I feel sort of a need to become a climate scientist myself so I can really know what the deal is. Something very corrupt is going on, one way or another.
I'm not convinced by AGW, but this documentary was largely bunk. There's a really convincing bit in it where they plotted CO2 and temperature on a graph, but if I remember rightly they totally fudged the data, cutting off data from the 80s or some time because it didn't fit, and changing the rest.
There's so much agenda on either side of the debate that it's really extremely hard now to work out what's propaganda and what's science without investing quite a bit of time.
Agreed. It is so easy to be persuaded by one side or the other. To be honest I was impressed with the videos, but to hear that they fabricated data just annoys the hell out of me. It's like the two sides of the climate change debate are the same people just trying to confuse the shit out of everyone for some diabolical reason.
I can't remember, but if you look at the graph and compare it to existing data it's clear what they've done.
Are you sure they are the ones who altered data? IPCC scientists were busted falsifying data.

Yea, the big groups pushing global warming got caught lying and faking data too.
I bet you the political establishment will just create a new crisis such as global cooling or some other farce once this current global warming scam is crashing, the whole point of global warming is to tax globally on co2 output and to punish childbirth because they claim babies have a large 'carbon footprint', many in the UN call for a one child policy for the whole planet to 'save the world' and if you ask me its all a scam for money and power by the ruling class. This whole sham of green 'green' this and green that, its like a new global religion or something, reminds me of scientology or mormonism.
Just like how in a lot of cases, recyling is shown to actually do more damage to the environment than it fixes.
Ive always been skeptical of the whole global warming thing...to me it just feels like a good excuse to place more taxes on us and invade privacy even more. Im not against doing things more efficient for the enviroment...but the global warming fiasco just annoys the hell out of me.
The whole making of this film and especially the host seems very "The Secret"y. You know, pandering, corny, 2 dimensional and full of bunk. All I see in it are claims, exclamations and no science or facts whatsoever.
"The whole thing just stinks!"
Riveting argument. The vast majority of scientists who have been studying climate change for years must be shaking their heads at how wrong they were to not listen to a man in a tiny minority with an opinion paid by big oil industries.
I've only watched the first part, and sometime I may watch the entire movie, but some major red flags are also right in the uploader's description:
Illuminati and the New World Order, huh? Get your guns!!! It's almost as if he was screaming that diatribe while being dragged out of a courtroom by security. He's even got a picture of the pyramid featured in the dollar bill upside down with the word 'resist' on it. And what do you know for the taglines: Illuminati, Freemasonry, skullandbones, bigbrother, zionism... reminds me of the Millennium TV show. Great show, by the way, as fiction playing off the worries of the conspiracy theorists of the 90s. There's clearly an agenda in denying it, one of the major ones being profitable for the biggest corporate polluters and big oil companies (who probably paid for this movie to be made, and in a reactionary rebuttle fashion similar to the conservative FarenHYPE 9/11). There's no conspiracy in acknowledging the reality we see every day with pollution, overpopulation, destruction of natural habitats that any truly legitimate scientist has studied. Conservatives claim there's an agenda in it, but they really have to get creative and abstract about it. The agenda AGAINST it is too real and obvious.Quote:
This film by the documentary-maker Martin Durkin presents the arguments of scientists and commentators who don't believe that CO2 produced by human activity is the main cause of climate change. It's all to scare the shit out of us folks! The Illuminati set this up to make us, the people of the world, the problem. Don't believe it! Resist the New World Order!!!!
Again, I'll probably form a more in-depth opinion once I actually have time to watch the rest.
I think the Illuminati stuff is just meant to be playful, and that is just the guy who posted the video any way. He was not one of the film makers. A reasonable agenda in denying global warming is to stand up to a mass deception aimed at controlling the ever living shit out of our lives.
Controlling? How? By teaching us to be responsible and clean up after ourselves? To respect developing countries in the process of respecting the environment, like anyone should do? That's like saying that the constitution is an agenda to control and scare us all into being civil human beings. It's perverted rhetoric straight out of Fox News.
The "reasonable agenda" you allude to seems pretty unspecified and twisted from the truth. Don't you think that the big oil industries are a FAR more plainly obvious reason to control and pervert this scientific debate? Like I said before, the "pro-environment agenda" is a weak tactic of the far right to inhibit real science and responsible action. They do this to muddy and confuse the debate on purpose-for their own wallets and greed driven ideologies (especially the Christian ideology of nature being below man).
Straight out of Fox News? Why do so many left wingers these days think Fox News is the only media outlet with non-leftist views? No, I am talking about very real proposed legislation that would significantly alter the way things can be done, what kinds of cars we can buy, how many miles we can drive, what kinds of factories can exist, etc. Big stuff. I am not talking about having to throw your Wendy's bag in the garbage instead of on the side of the road.
It's not just the far right. It's a large portion of people who are merely not on the far left. I am all for laws against polluting lakes and cities and laws against littering, but this global warming propaganda has gone ape shit. It gives the Democratic Party an outlet for increasing their power and control, which is what they get off on more than anything else. Don't let them suck you in so easily. All they have to do is go, "Booh! Environment melting!" and the far lefties who love to dress up and play liberal cult members go, "Yeah! I believe you! Republicans suck! Wooooooooooo hoooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!:boogie::banana: This is fun!" It's just way too easy.
By the way, you have probably read enough of what I have said about religion and civil liberties such as drug rights to know that I am not a Republican. However, I am open-minded enough to recognize that they are right about some things. Can you name one single issue you agree with Republicans and disagree with Democrats on? Just one. Name just one issue. If you can't, then maybe you should examine what your true agenda in all of this is. Is it really about getting to the truth? Get back to me on that.
