      Metal Music has lullaby powers?

My brother and I found out that metal music can cure our headaches!!! My brother has loved metal music for like a year.... A LOT I learned to love it 2 days ago on my vacation in NYC. My brother had a 3 day roaring headache and i had a 2 day not so much roaring headache. SO my brother BLASTED metal music in his earphones and his headache stopped O_O. Same with me!!!!!!

Also, whenever my brother listens to metal music, he can fall asleep really quickly....

      hoooooow is this possible???

If you're tired enough, you can fall asleep to any kind of music.

Curing headaches? Probably just a coincidence, or placebo. I doubt metal music is more or less likely to cure a headache than "relaxing" music.

Well that sounds about right for me, Maybe not curing headaches.. (because i havn't tried) but it can make me feel tired, depending on the melody. Same with racing sports with noisy cars, it gets drowsy after a while, and almost comforting. There could be something behind all that. I think that could be interesting to do more research about though

I have a similar effect, metal allows me to do my homework and stay on task better. Its probably just because its the music I like, but still, interesting what music can do for us no matter what genre it is.

Actually I remember reading that heavy metal type music is the worst for a person's health, and classical music, specifically from the baroque period is the best. If you like metal, then I doubt you care about this, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless. Also I think that metal made people the most weak physically (they tested people with different music and lifting weights), so there might be something to this "lullaby" effect you mention. Unable to find my source atm but here's something similar Music and the Brain

Nina, do you happen to remember what kind of metal they used in that study? There is a very large variance in what is considered "metal" and I would dare say that a lot of metal contains solos and musical prowess that stems directly from classical music.

No clue. I can't seem to find the study either.

Probably a few tracks by 'Cannibal Corpse'

An English TV program studied the effect of blasting different kinds of music to some cows in a field. I can't remember what electronic equipment they had strapped to the cows but they liked Indian classical the best and they hated punk rock.

Please click on the links below, more techniques under investigation to come soon...

After reading this I did some research and found these articles which explain why metal music is good for you:

-How heavy metal music can actually be good for you « Exploring Infinity
-Why heavy metal is good for you - Houston Metal Music | Examiner.com

I'm not sure about it's ability to cure headaches. Good it works for you, though! Nina, I would be interested to read about that study. I don't think metal music would really be bad for your health. I think listening to the type of music that you enjoy is healthy whether it be metal or classical.

I like a lot of metal, but blasting it tends to induce headaches... However, I've seen people say going to the gym "cures" hangovers. I always would have expected the opposite. Case in point, I'd expect blasting metal would just make a headache worse, but I never tried it.

An intense bike ride did clear a mild hangover for me. So, I'm sure it's possible.

I only get headaches when i don't listen to metal. I can't confirm the falling asleep apart because i can't fall asleep when there is music or noises (f.e. bird noises)
