My brother and I found out that metal music can cure our headaches!!! My brother has loved metal music for like a year.... A LOT I learned to love it 2 days ago on my vacation in NYC. My brother had a 3 day roaring headache and i had a 2 day not so much roaring headache. SO my brother BLASTED metal music in his earphones and his headache stopped O_O. Same with me!!!!!! |

Well that sounds about right for me, Maybe not curing headaches.. (because i havn't tried) but it can make me feel tired, depending on the melody. Same with racing sports with noisy cars, it gets drowsy after a while, and almost comforting. There could be something behind all that. I think that could be interesting to do more research about though |

Previously known as " Dead "
I have a similar effect, metal allows me to do my homework and stay on task better. Its probably just because its the music I like, but still, interesting what music can do for us no matter what genre it is. |

Actually I remember reading that heavy metal type music is the worst for a person's health, and classical music, specifically from the baroque period is the best. If you like metal, then I doubt you care about this, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless. Also I think that metal made people the most weak physically (they tested people with different music and lifting weights), so there might be something to this "lullaby" effect you mention. Unable to find my source atm but here's something similar Music and the Brain |

Nina, do you happen to remember what kind of metal they used in that study? There is a very large variance in what is considered "metal" and I would dare say that a lot of metal contains solos and musical prowess that stems directly from classical music. |

Probably a few tracks by 'Cannibal Corpse' |

I like a lot of metal, but blasting it tends to induce headaches... However, I've seen people say going to the gym "cures" hangovers. I always would have expected the opposite. Case in point, I'd expect blasting metal would just make a headache worse, but I never tried it. |

I only get headaches when i don't listen to metal. I can't confirm the falling asleep apart because i can't fall asleep when there is music or noises (f.e. bird noises) |
