      Shakey hands

My hands/arms shake when I'm trying to hold them still. In school, we do activities that often require us holding/lifting each other and it is kind of embarrassing, as it looks like I am too weak to hold them up, which is not the case. When playing cards, people think I'm mad or unwell because my hands shake. It does get worse when I am nervous, but it also occurs when I am not, or when I am lifting something heavy. Oh yea, and my handwriting has always sucked. This has been happening as long as I can remember. I looked it up on the web and all I saw was old people stuff. Is this supposed to be happening at 17? It's pretty weird. Anyone heard of this? Can I take a pill and be able to hold things steady?

I guess, but not always. It does correlate with anxiety, stress, etc. I don't smoke but that's exactly the kind of stuff that causes me trouble.

Do you exercise at all? Do you eat a balanced diet? Virtually every physical issue someone can have can be solved by eating healthy and maintaining their physique. Pills might alleviate the problem, but they won't solve the underlying cause.
I know before I started exercising and eating healthy I would shake when lifting things that I could easily handle. But now I can lift something at the max of my capabilities and hardly shake at all.

Try to push yourself both mentally and physically. Meditation is also a very useful tool.

My diet sucks but I exercise pretty often. Although many things can, I doubt this can be solved through diet & exercise as it has been happening for many years and through good/bad diets and periods of high activity and less. From what I've found on the internet, it seems to be some sort of brain issue. I wish I drank because it I am curious how alcohol would effect it.

i think you hit the nail on the head mate, i used to be some kind of energy junkie haha, (energy drinks) so that got me thinkin, but after quittin/cutting down and also meditatin i found my shakes were definately decreasin so it would be wise to get an exercise routine going, good luck.

I would think it's just natural. I have shaky hands too but my diet is OK and I'm not unfit or anything. Personally I think it's related to innate levels of dopamine in your locomotor system; restless leg syndrome (which I had when I was younger) is linked to lowered dopamine levels. Additionally Parkinson's disease (a symptom of which is tremors) is mainly caused by dopamine deficiency; and I'm not saying that this means you'll get Parkinson's, I'm just saying that it is well known that dopamine is heavily involved in movement regulation, and slight differences in dopamine levels may affect your steadiness.

However it's probably not harmful and just one of those things like having a faster metabolism or being short-sighted.

EDIT: also I should clarify that Parkinson's probably isn't related to an innate dopamine deficiency, and is due to the loss of dopaminergic neurons themselves through various complex pathways, so no need to worry.

Sounds like you have a tremor, like I do. Mine was worse when I was younger, but I still have it. I don't really notice that much, but once in a while a person will ask why my hands shake so much. XD

Have you maintained a healthy diet and exercised every other day and maintained it for at least 3 months? Saying 'well sometimes I'm healthier than other times' doesn't mean shit. It takes awhile months for your body to adjust; and it's not something you can half-ass either. Until you've maintained a strict healthy lifestyle for at least 3 months you don't have ANY room to discredit the idea.
You say it's possibly a brain issue? You do realize that your brain benefits from a healthy lifestyle, right?

I find it quite funny you posted this thread asking for advice, but then the only comments you agree with are ones saying there's nothing you can do. Pretty fuckin counter productive wouldn't you agree? Just because you're too damn lazy to maintain a healthy lifestyle doesn't mean that it won't have a positive impact.

Sorry I kinda went over the top. But it makes me so steamed when people say "I have this problem; how do I fix it?" but if the answer requires effort they simply discredit it and either continue living with the problem, or take a random drug that has the potential to have an even bigger negative impact....

      Assuming you're being sarcastic;

Whilst it is true that changing your diet may have some impact on neurotransmitters, it will probably not significantly affect dopamine levels, which as mentioned in my first post are probably responsible for shaky hands.

Oh you mentioned that in your first post did you? Thanks for the reminder; I had forgot.

Thanks for the sources; very interesting. I admit then that I was wrong about that. It's just that in my studies into Parkinson's disease, diet changes were never suggested as treatments (at any rate, not as effective as L-Dopa), so I assumed that diet would not have a significant effect on dopamine levels.

But yes your second link especially shows that's probably wrong.

One more thing; watch your attitude. There is no need to be so inflammatory just to feed your ego.

Both those articles are BS. More mass produced media crap. When these people don't know the answer to a question they use the totally flawed generic BS about fat and a "Healthy Diet". Take this quote for example:

Avoid eating fatty red meats, such as bacon and sausages, that clog your arteries and make it difficult for dopamine to flow to the brain.

Read more: Foods That Affect Dopamine Levels In The Brain | LIVESTRONG.COM
This is totally made up BS, what they are saying there is spewing incorrect bull about a bogus theory. They don't have any advice to give, so they say the generic response.

Do you take any medication? when I took anti-depressants I shook like a mother fucker all the time.
Also, as Sero said, when rolling a J. But I think that's just nervous anticipation of the good feelings to come lol

There *is* a pill you can take, if you actually really want to. They're called beta-blockers. They basically just stop adrenaline, they work really well.
Don't get Propranolol though, it is the most common, but it is not selective and can damage the heart. Atenolol, I *think* is the safest one, but do a little research. Atenolol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

umadbro? Simply discrediting an idea without offering any sort of counter argument only further proves your ignorance. Next time try forming a real argument and maybe you'll earn some credibility. Sausage and Bacon are terrible for you; how is that "made up BS"?

      Here, take more drugs.

Great idea! Patrick has already diagnosed him with low levels of dopamine, now we should also suppress epinephrine! I'm sure his body will function just fine after we limit all of the chemicals his body readily uses.

I'm all for less unnecessary use of meds. What I'm not for is the baseless and false chant that saturated fat is bad for you.

Sausage and Bacon are terrible for you
That statement is simply not true.
