Smile How can I get extremely fit in the comfort of my own home?

So I've been exercising at least 5 times a week for the past 10 months now but lately my routine consisting of daily 30 minute vinyasa yoga, followed by Tony Horton's ab ripper x video and Ivy Larson's 30 minute workout is getting too repetitive and I find no motivation to do them anymore.

Can anyone suggest any good workout videos, tips, exercise suggestions on how I should go about my workout rut situation?

P.S: I'm not fond of running and the workout equipment I have at home are a pair of 5 pound dumbbells, a yoga mat, exercise ball and a skipping rope.

      Any help would be appreciated!

Are you into dancing at all? That's what I do. It works excellently. It's very fun, as well, so I barely feel like I'm exercising..but if done right it can be a very good workout as well.

Is there any specific dancing you do? And how long do you dance for?

have you tried shadowboxing? you just throw kicks and punches in the air while constantly moving around on the balls of your feet. its a great way to work your entire body. just pretend someone is attacking you and your trying to fight back.

you could also buy a punching bag or reflex bag.

you could use the 5lb dumbbell to throw punches in the air. jump rope is also a good idea. and of course you can always do a variety of push-ups, sit-ups, and squats.

triceps dips and burpees are also great workouts that you can do almost anywhere.

Why do you have to stay at home? You can get much better results going to the gym, or even just jogging outside.

When I lived with my parents and didn't have a membership, I just used a pull up bar and resistance bands.

Yeah, belly dancing actually. The other dancing is just my own invention. I'd say for an hour, more if I have time. I honestly stop because of time constraints, otherwise it's so fun I want ot keep going! The key is finding music that wants to make you dance.

Hm, the Insanity workout has done wonders for me, though I will say that it takes some time to get used to. It's intense, but it works (or at least it did for me). There's a lot of jumping and movement in it, so it's great for cardio and it doesn't require any extra equipment, only you and the video. There are also a variety of different workouts within the Insanity bundle, so that you're doing something new almost every day, and the intensity of the workout progresses as you progress. I think it's a ton of fun, once you get going, though the program is a little expensive. You need a bit of room to do it too, because you're moving around and jumping so much, but otherwise it's a pretty good workout to do in the privacy of your home. You have to be careful though, because a lot of the movements are pretty dynamic and if you don't do it right, you could hurt yourself (I've rolled my ankle a few times). Anyway, hope this helps!

Now that you've watched the yoga videos enough why not try it on your own, setting a new pace and experimenting a little more? I find I always resist yoga, then end up wondering why I would ever procrastinate doing something that feels so good.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

All great ideas here. OP, a lot depends on your goals, but In addition to the aerobics mentioned- one thing, resistance training is really under rated when it comes to getting "in shape". Resistance training adds lean body mass (muscle) which burns more calories than fat and will slowly "tone" you. Also the very act of straining your body burns calories (gets your heart going). Since you mentioned you don't want to run, unless you own or have access to a bike, I would suggest in addition to aerobics, a resistance regimen.

With simple exercises, gradually making them more difficult, you would be surprised at how you can transform your body.

Chinups (these can even be done on a sturdy door frame whilst you wear gloves). Do as many as you can, wait a minute or two, and repeat and gradually work up from there (back and arms)

Pushups (self explanatory and one of the best exercises for arms and chest). Do as many as you can, wait a minute or two, and repeat and gradually work up from there

Squats/half squats/box squats (These are ideal for your legs and butt) Same amount. Do as many as you can, wait a minute or two, and repeat and gradually work up from there

Lunges-(Legs and butt) Do as many as you can, wait a minute or two, and repeat and gradually work up from there

      Simple crunches.. for your abdominals.

Remember, and this is why so many people get frustrated, results take time.
-Remember the importance of variety, workout intensely, but pick different days to work out broader portions of your body so you don't get too exhausted.
-Decide what your goal is, ie: losing fat, gaining a slight amount of muscle (toning),
-Read up, research (not tabloids) about how to time your meals and which workouts to do to meet that goal
-Make a commitment to be patient and stick with your program, even if it's boring, for the long haul..if you can do this, and accept fitness is hard work, tedious, and a 24/7 commitment, you will be ahead of 95% of the population, still behind looking for a miracle food or magic workout.

PM me for a nice program. =)

Try hula hooping. Once you feel comfortable with it, then begin to hoop while doing yoga. Not even kidding - it's an insane work out.

I realized I was watching TV while sitting on my butt. So I started jogging in place while watching TV. I started losing some weight. Then I started having problems with my feet because I was running barefoot -- my doctor told me I had a "sports injury". Go figure. Me. A sports injury.
So I now have a little shoe insert for my shoes.
I've taken up bicycling, and I bicycle in the morning by the local church in the parking lot before anyone is there. That's a little more interesting than jogging in place.
