There is a thing you can do to make yourself pass out by starving your brain of oxygen, is this dangerous or does it have any negative side affects? (except from drowning, hitting your head on something etc)
1. sit in squatting position
2. breathe in breathe out heavily for 20 secs
3. stand up 4. blow on thumb as hard as you can
5. Pass out

Well, obviously it burns brain cells but I thought we had loads extra that we never use in our life so it wouldn't really affect anything. I really don't have a clue about this kind of stuff.

When I was about 7 years old, someone told me if you tied a rubberband VERY tightly around your finger and then went to sleep you would wake up to find your finger fell off.
That night, I tightly wrapped a rubberband around my finger and went to bed.
My finger didn't fall off but I vaguely recall that I was in agony for some time afterwards.

People also told me that if I hung upside down from the monkeybars for too long my head would explode. I started hanging upside down every moment I had and even slept for years with my head and most of my body upsidedown off the side of my bed. I would even sleep on a top bunk like that. The adults were always terrified I would fall off and break my neck. I never fell off and my head never exploded (interestingly, whenever I get a certain type of super horrible headache, the only way I can get rid of it is by hanging upside down from the furniture. But it only stays away for as long as I'm upside down.).
I know THIS topic isn't quite the same as the stories children tell... but my brain is perverted that way. I need personal proof. For some really odd reason, I don't really care if I have to die to obtain that proof. :hmm:
It's really not that big of a deal neither it should be considered as a "cheap drug". For me it's just a thing you do once or twice just to see and that's it. It should be like that for everyone who wants to TRY.
I can also see the mature, moderator view though. People get addicted to the stupidest stuff and freak accidents CAN and DO happen, so it's not really something that should be taken lightly.
I was once into "whippets"- just to "try" and see what they were like. One balloon wore off much too quickly, so I filled 2 or 3 in advance and hit them one after the other.
I researched the dangers and found I had been walking a very thin rope across a slippery slope of death (my experiences while high were different from my friends so I looked it up and it terrified me how close to death I had come).
So, even though my brain is perverted and I always want to push the line to see how far I can go... and all of my earlier silliness aside... the mom in me has at last come to her senses.
If someone actually feels completely compelled to try this, RESEARCH it first and don't do it alone.
And yes, I'll be taking my own advice as well :D

If you're talking about experiencing that moment when you've been sitting down too long, suddenly stand up, and feel all discombobulated, that's one thing. Starving your brain of oxygen on purpose is something else all together. I'm not going to get into a discussion about drugs, but some people get addicted to the feeling of being high through whatever means they're using, including starving the brain of oxygen.
I know someone who died because of this. His name was Ben. It wasn't the first time he'd done this, only this time he went too far. His little brother found him in the bathroom a short time later.
Actually, it's not dangerous at all. You should do it.

When I was a small kid, I took a large cloth and wrapped it around my neck REALLY tightly. I wanted to see how red I could make my face.
It got red. Really red. The pressure was nearly unbarable, but I wanted to see how long I could go on with it. I woke up on the floor with blood gushing from a wound on my head.
I still have stained bedsheets, and a scar that will forever remind me that deliberately passing out is not a wise thing to do.

The method is actually hyperventilation, but still reduces oxygen to the brain. Here is how it works.
During the rapid breathing, you are simulating hyperventilation. Hyperventilation means breathing too deeply or too fast or both, either obviously or subtly over a period of time. This excess breathing causes a reduction in carbon dioxide. This causes alkalosis (High pH--opposite of acidic) of your blood. The episode, usually starts with a tingling feeling in your diaphragm, spreading to your whole body, you start to lose vision by either white out or black out. Then after standing up, you lose all vision. Noises get fainter, and suddenly you collapse, although you probably would not know you collapsed.

Then I woke up rather confused, dizzy, and slightly nauseous in a laying position. It was weird.
Temporary hypoxia (on the scale of a few minutes) is not harmful. Still, deliberately trying to achieve this would be extremely dangerous and unbelievably stupid. People die over that sort of thing.

I made myself hyperventilating alot in highschool because it was fun. But not enough to loose consciousness, but just enough to get "high". I never blacked out, but I heard it's a terrible feeling.
Yeah, sora, my sister said she hated the feeling. Didn't hurt me much, but it is somewhat unpleasent.
I like to go to swimming pools and breathe in water so I can go unconsious, and the lifeguards have to bring me back through CPR. It makes me black out and stuff. All the cool people are doing it.

During class in the 2nd grade, I was standing in front of the room with a few other kids for a demonstration and the teacher was talking so I started to make my face red(I can't explain how to do it-like pushing out your crap) to make my friends laugh, and I blacked out for a couple seconds. The teacher started yelling at me and I couldn't remember much =/ she thought I was playing around.

Twice, unintentionally. If I get very focused I sometimes just stop breathing. The first time was just before my foot surgery last year. I hadn't eaten that morning so that was likely part of it, but then I was watching the nurse try to put the IV needle into my arm and on her third attempt I felt like I was going to hurl and my vision went black and my hearing started to go. I didn't know I'd passed out at first, but then I realized that I was laying down whereas I had been sitting up.Quote:

Well, there's pot that is even more intense than Kush. Have you ever heard of Blue Hawaiian? It is supposed to be in second place after Skunk. It is also the type you are supposed to smoke one hit of, and it is creeper, which means you don't notice much until after a while. I was at a party and some guy I didn't know offered me some tokes of of weed but didn't tell me it was Blue Hawaiian. He had to go talk to somebody he saw, so he told me to hit it as much as I wanted because he had tons of it. After my usual four or five hits, I didn't notice a thing. So I kept smoking and smoking. I ended up smoking twenty hits. Then I suddenly got slammed by down by it like I had been hit by a freight train. I couldn't see a thing, and I started sliding down the car I was leaning against and couldn't do anything about it. People started crowding around me and trying to get my attention, but I couldn't talk. I was completely convinced I was about to die. After a few minutes, the nightmare ended and I was just really stoned but could see, walk, and talk.Quote:

Yeah, panic attacks on weed are the worst. I've never fainted while having one, although I'm sure it is easily achieved by the increase in blood pressure/heart rate.
The closest I've come to fainting is when I was in a steam room for a long time. I was taking deep breaths and for some reason I decided to hold it. The black started filling my vision and by the time I exhaled I was blind and as I breathed my vision came back. I didn't try that again...

When you first started smoking weed (and I mean the first four, five, six years) , was it something you could stop on a whim and go for without months? Or could you simply not stop smoking it.
I am young, and it's true I haven't seen where the majority of my heavy pot-smoking friends are going to end up, but I'm observant enough to see it happening to them in the future. As for myself, I can go from smoking it every single day to going without it for months. I've smoked weed maybe five times since September - wish I could say the same for friends of mine.
I know plenty of weed addicts. I was one myself for a solid year. Practically stoned all day everyday. I don't know what it is, you don't view it as a bad thing really because it's not like heroin or cocaine so you're just kind of like "whatever". It doesn't affect your ability to do most things either, you can easily support the habit of smoking everyday with a minimum wage job. One of my roommates would smoke a bong whenever he woke up in the middle of the night...Often two times or more a night. He would smoke one before work so he could gap out while taking the bus and train to work. He was a great friend, but smoked a lot of pot lol. I'm sure a lot of it had to do with the tobacco they would smoke it with, although I was still addicted even though I never smoked with tobe.
I smoked pot once when I was 12 and once when I was 15, but it didn't really do anything for me. My first time to really be stoned was when I was 19. Back then, I did it about every few weeks and didn't care if I came across it or not. It was just a matter of somebody passing it to me. It was never something I looked or hoped for. That went on for three years. When I was 22, I started smoking it a lot more. I moved to Baton Rouge, lived off college graduation money and had no responsibilites stopping me from smoking, and had a roommate who was an every day smoker. I was in Baton Rouge to have fun, so I got stoned every day. Eventually, I started buying my own bags. I was stoned pretty much every day from the summer of 1994 to the end of 1995. At the beginning of 1996, I gave my first major attempt at quitting. It lasted four months, and then my habit picked right up where I had left it. I had a few more multiple month breaks in the 90's, but I don't have them now. I might go one month, but not four. I'm too addicted now. Howeve, I recently made the decision to stop buying my own bags, and I think I can at least pull that off. It should make a big difference.Quote:
