Feels Like Vein in Neck Moving

I've had this problem for years. When I turn my head to the right, something happens in my neck. It feels like a vein or a nerve moves, as if it were plucked like a guitar string. It doesn't hurt but it is sharp and unexpected. This must have happened to me three times today while I was working. The Internet can't seem to give me any answers, so I'm turning to here. Thanks.

AHHHHHHH!!!! Is it at the very back of your neck? If so, you're much stronger a person than I am. The pain could drop me to my knees and bring tears to my eyes.
To this day I still don't know what it is, what causes it or how to prevent it. But, for me anyhow, it's gotten better with age.
When I was a teenager, I would get them every couple months. Now I get them once every few years.

No, it's on the left side of my neck. It's not painful but definitely abnormal. But it feels weird and catches me by surprise every time, and it makes me stop for a moment and wince.

Hi Youssarian...I have the same problem, but it happened to me about 5-6 times in three months? Did you get any information on why that happens?

I've got the same in back of my head. Not very often though. It really feels like if someone is tearing you'r head apart. Makes me to stop every movement, happens usually when i turn my head very quickly.
(On me, the pain in particular phenomenom "stretches" itself from the upper neck to the back of the head)

But still, i've had the same feeling as yossarian! To me it usually happens when i swallow with head in quite low position. Might be caused by some "lag" in muscles needed for swallowing. I'm not sure about that.

Geez, i have so many problems with my neck.
