bones stuff
well here goes.
Pretty much, my wrists "pop" alot. as does my neck, shoulder and fingers. I don't know why, i mean it doesn't hurt, but they just "pop" alot, and my neck does as well... I know why my wrists used to hurt but I don't know why they pop. my cousin told me not to pop them because it causes loosening of the joints and ligaments.. but I really don't know how to stop. I guess it's more of, I have a bad habit with poppiong my knuckles, wrists, thumbs, neck and shoulders, but it doesn't seem normal. Could someting bad result from this?

I've been told by people my entire life to stop popping my knuckles. They say it leads to arthritis but I've since read articles that disprove such beliefs.
For me, it's a "chicken and egg" type question: which came first. I have Ehlers Danlos Disease (type 3 most probable) which is just hypermobility. I've popped all my joints for as long as I can remember. They hurt (ached) so I popped them and got relief.
So... are some people "self-medicating" an ailment by popping their joints, or does the popping itself cause the problems lol
Personally, I believe that popping is both good and bad. I think, with certain joints, overly stressing them by popping them can weaken the joint. I don't know if that is medically proven though.
I have no problems with my fingers (I pop all three joints of my fingers and my thumbs 2-3 times go figure lol) all the freagin time. They get achy at times, but they're more achy if I don't pop them.
My hips, however, are an entirely different matter. I don't pop them often. When I do, I sit with my knees side by side and my legs bent to the outside of my body and I just lean in one direction or another to pop them. Sometimes I cannot walk unless I can sit to pop the joint. The pain is unbearable if I don't.
My elbows will also start hurting BECAUSE I pop them, but only sometimes.
And don't get me started on my toes lol. I'm almost constantly popping my big toes. They cramp when I don't.
But again... the side effects I've mentioned: do I cause the pain by popping or would there be pain anyway and I'm merely relieving it?
Who knows lol

My shoulder popped a lot ( if I moved wrong ) and I went to a orthopedic (sp?) Dr. He said if it keeps popping it loosens
I also used to crack my knuckles all the time and it hurt when I didn't crack them.. if you can get passed a day without cracking them they don't hurt anymore.

I can understand that! I can pop my shoulder almost out of place. It looks freaky/cool lol and when I was a kid, I always had to gross people out by doing it.
As I got older, doing the trick caused lingering discomfort. I looked it up and discovered I'm weakening a socket (? or somesuch) and the more I do it, the worse it will get.
So I stopped.
But my shoulders never pop. I pop my joints even in my sleep. I couldn't go an hour let alone an entire day :O

Cracking or popping your knuckles doesn't give you arthritus. It actually means you have good bones.
