Does anyone have a good explanation for the concept of "heart break". What is the medical reason why it feels like your heart is being ripped piece by piece and dropping into your stomach? What causes the vertigo? If it is considered figurative speech then why does it feel so true? Slash offered the idea that it could be muscle stress, or heart rate... Is there anyone else who knows the facts? |

The treatment of takotsubo cardiomyopathy is generally supportive in nature. In individuals with hypotension, support with inotropic agents or an intra-aortic balloon pump have been used. In many individuals, left ventricular function normalizes within 2 months. Aspirin and other heart drugs also appear to help in the treatment of this disease, even in extreme cases. |

Lolz. I love it when I get to explain medical stuff to a layman. Inotropic Agents = Drugs that alter muscular contractions. |

It makes no sense to me how a heart can break- even after going through that very thing right now. I'm not a hopeless romantic at all, and a scientific explanation would be appreciated. It's like I have a dull ache in my heart ever since i lost someone, and it's just so strange ;/ |
