      Medical Explanation for "Heart Break"

Does anyone have a good explanation for the concept of "heart break". What is the medical reason why it feels like your heart is being ripped piece by piece and dropping into your stomach? What causes the vertigo? If it is considered figurative speech then why does it feel so true? Slash offered the idea that it could be muscle stress, or heart rate... Is there anyone else who knows the facts?

Just plain curiosity... maybe if there is a medical explanation there could be a medical cure?

Lolz. I love it when I get to explain medical stuff to a layman. Inotropic Agents = Drugs that alter muscular contractions.

It makes no sense to me how a heart can break- even after going through that very thing right now. I'm not a hopeless romantic at all, and a scientific explanation would be appreciated. It's like I have a dull ache in my heart ever since i lost someone, and it's just so strange ;/

You get a head ache when you experience brain stress. You get a heart ache when you experience heart stress.

Makes me wonder if those things that resemble lobes are of a stereotypical number for Heart ganglia to have...
