So, i got to a point where i felt i could not go on anymore, like LITERALLY could not keep going the way i was going or i would not last much longer. I have had some help at work about this and some stuff to eat and do etc, but i want some more answers. |

Any type of aerobic exercise will help greatly. So swimming, biking, running/jogging would be good activities to take up. |

If you read and do what I say next, people will think you're crazy. Also you might die, especially if you have a history of high cholesterol or high blood pressure. You will surely die if you're a diabetic. Also don't bother reading if you are a jew or crazy vegan. When in doubt, consult a doctor. |

Just keep moving…
My dad is on Weight Watchers, and he dropped a lot of weight over 2 mos. I think he used to weigh 260ish, and he's now down to 200ish. However, he bikes a lot. He's been doing it for about a yr and he's kept the weight off. Honestly, I would do a Weight Watchers program along with exercise |

Well, i have been doing this walk for about 2 weeks now and have lost maybe 5 lbl, so not the fast start i was hoping. I was hoping for 20 lbl loss in the first 2 weeks like i normally do when i decide o lose weight. I wanna do this slowly instead of as fast as i can that way i wont lose intrest in this because this time i have the feeling i am ready to do this. 1 long hour walk 4-5 days a week is what i am doing now, in a few months or less i'll be buying a crossbow (similar to a bowflex) from a guy at my work. I have RARELY drank any pop in the past 2 weeks, but mostly water and a lot of it from dasani and brita in my fridge. I eat good stuff still but not always, i'm told it's fine if sometimes you eat your normal stuff every once in a while. But...i REALLY do not want to rush this, my changes should hopefully be done in a year (not fully but alot of it), so next June. When i rush things i lose intrest in them. Besides...once i get my crossbow hopefully i'll start gaining muscle in 3 months. I noticed a huge difference lifting heavy stuff when i lifted my 20 pound weights 20 times per day for 3 months. |

Hey, you are doing very good so far. You just need to adapt to your situation; if your knee is damaged you should use a bike or an elliptical or a stair machine, those do much less damage to your bones. Also never be afraid to push yourself; your body will know how to adapt if you start jogging. Obviously be careful and do not strain yourself either. I would also advise against a bowflex type machine and invest into some cheap dumbbells if you are planning on using weights. |
|
I am taking my time with the food thing. I eat salad now but i also eat a few things i used to eat. I'm planning on doing it slow like i said. Just got home from work, smoked some weed with some work buds and did my hour walk home. |

You got the right idea with the weight lifting and stuff. Weight lifting helps you lose more fat in the long run than running, since the muscle you build up burns fat all day long. With any sort of knee or leg trouble, swimming is a great way to go instead of running. |
|
I dont completely agree with that. A good diet is where you are always full, just full of the right ingredients. A snack is a very good thing if instead of a brownie you take an apple or some salt-free peanuts. The goal of your diet is not to starve every day; it is to provide you with the right nutrients. So obviously dont eat candy for snack but do take snacks during the day. |
|
I meant the cheating junk food snacks hehe. The ones that you say to yourself, "Oh just a little bit wont hurt me." Just a little bit can set you back hours of working out though. I think any one who has been on a diet, knows what I mean. |
|
yeah well i appologize not to be one of those people that starts a diet and still eats brownies. I didnt realize that you were stating the obvious... I mean i dont come to some thread and tell a person that is trying to stop smoking that it isnt healthy to smoke one per day, I think they already know that. |

You think it is common sense, but you would be surprised to find out how much of it isn't. So many people try to lose weight all the time, and tons fail, over and over. Its why weight loss plans and diet pills is such a huge industry in the US. |

No you didn't. there are 3500 calories in a pound and calories are a measure of energy. You would have to burn 17500 calories to lose 5 pounds. And to lose 17500 pounds in 4 miles, you would have to weigh about 7000 pounds to be able to expend that much energy in such a short distance. |
|
Weight lifting does not burn many calories. Just because you have stronger muslces doesn't mean you'll be using them all the time either. Weight lifting does make you stronger, but does not change you're daily routine. What I mean by that is even if you start weight lifting, it's not like you'll be moving all your furniture around every day and lifting up tables for the hell of it. If that were the case, then you'd be right, lifting weights does help you lose fat in the long run but I don't believe that's true. |

Just finished walking around the golf course, 4.6 KM's in 1 hour. Had a nice bowl filled with fruits i washed. |

You burn energy even if you don't do anything at all. Just living and being alive burns energy. The heavier you are the more you burn just to stay alive. A person who weighs 200 lbs burns more energy standing than a person who weighs 100lbs doing the same thing. Muscle is pretty dense and increasing your muscle mass does in fact burn more energy in the long run. |
|
the amount of energy you burn just by being alive is insignificant compared to what you burn while you exercise. Also being heavier is not exactly proportional to the energy you burn. Because then fat people would lose more weight. On the other hand you are right that with more muscle mass you burn more fat but that is because muscle tissue requires more energy so basically like a 6 cylinder engine will burn more fuel then a 4 cylinder engine. When you jogg most of calories are burned in your legs and core, which means having more muscle there will increase not only your endurance but the calories burned during workouts. |

So i am still doing this walk all the time 4-5 days a week but i am at a point where im seeing little to no results anymore. It's been like 3 months now but everyone is telling me i have lost alot of weight even though it has only been 25 pounds, but it's also been on the hips and stuff. I am like 2 notches lower belt wise then i used to be. Next week i will be hooking up my crossbow that has been sitting in the other room for like 2 months and i'll be in better shape. But no problems breathing anymore. |
