"Lucid Dreaming is bad for you"

      False

I love lucid dreaming, I know a great deal about being lucid and dreaming in general.

But every time i bring up dreaming with my girlfriend and i start telling stories of when i go lucid she gets all weird.
The truth is she thinks that lucid dreaming is bad for you and that being in control of something when you are supposed to be getting rest is harmful to.. something, i guess.. She dosent have a logical answer.
And she refuses to believe anything i say to her.
She wont look it up for herself, and she wont listen to what i have to say about it.
It's like she tries to make me feel guilty for doing something bad. So im definitely done trying to convince her.
She is super close minded and wont think for herself.

It's crazy, how i cant make her understand how such an unbelievably amazing thing is even possible. I get so excited telling my LD's.

I posted this cause im just annoyed from it all.

What do you think. Is lucid dreaming bad for you?
For now.. ill just keep dreaming

HELL NO! some people lucid dream naturally, are they living an unhealthy lives? of course not! unless you use LDing as a escape from reality...... then you might have problems to sought out

when ever i tell people about LDing, they think i am weird, lol
They say dreaming is dead, no one does it anymore.
It's not dead it's just that it's been forgotten, removed from our language.
Nobody teaches it so nobody knows it exists.
The dreamer is banished to obscurity.
Well, I'm trying to change all that, and I hope you are too.
      By dreaming, every day.

      bad for you??? heck no!

seriously! it is annoying isn't it? some people are just morons. they have the most amazing thing ever and they refuse to even look into it... I have a similar problem, my friend refuses to hear anything i have to say about lucid dreaming because he thinks it's gay and girly.

ah well, these idiots that think it's wrong to lucid dream just don't know what they're missing. their loss.

i think its pretty clear that you area actually getting far better rest while lucid dreaming. i know i feel amazing and well rested when i wake up after a good dream. i think other people are just upset that they have pretty much lost their connection to their subconscious, so they are pretty much slaves to their subconscious without knowing it. sleep is exercise for the soul as well as rest for the body and mind. if you dont dream then you have no way of letting your mind work out the problems and issues of the day without the interference of waking life

funny how those who say it is bad for you are the ones who have never experienced it. a lot like psychadelic herbs i suppose

My Mommy's the same way. "You shouldn't control a dream when you need to sleep. You're trying to control too much." She thinks I have problems with my mind because I like to explore the mental side of things. A lot.

Oh, another thread like this? I have one thing to say.

99.9% of people have probably had a lucid dream before, they just can't remember it. Saying that, no, it's not harmful. She's simply been misinformed.

You're still getting REM rest, and sleep itself, but your brain is aware. What's so wrong with that?
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Lucid dreams are good for you if anything! They're great for rehearsing presentations and speeches you may have at school/college/work, a slighty boring way to use being lucid, but helpful none the less!

I have a similar problem. My fiancee just doesn't care about dreaming. No matter how excited I get, she doesn't ever really want to try. I've convinced her to give it a try several times throughout the years, but it doesn't ever interest her. I guess different things interest different people.

My mother was interested (remember she joined a few weeks back) but hasn't gotten into it at all.

The best (and only...) thing you can do about this, is just not talking about it, keeping your experiences for yourself (and sharing them with people that can understand and appreciate them).
Some people are just not able to understand; their "map of the world" just has no room for this.

I haven't told anyone about my lucid dreaming for these exact reasons It's something I like to keep personal. At first I thought that maybe i'm being selfish, keeping something this big to myself. But then again, i'm very open-minded and some people just aren't. I remember explaining a dream (was lucid but he didn't know that) to a friend and he said "you make it sound like you actually done that." I thought "hmm... well maybe I did haha".

I just can't imagine why people wouldn't think of it as an amazing oppurtunity. As soon as I learned about it, I got SO excited. For ages i thought I would have to just get my adventures with books and movies, and realising that I could actually experience these things was... I can't explain it.

So suddenly when people are saying that it's not good for you... It makes me sad that they can't see it as something to take advantage of.

I would have to disagree. That depends entirely on how you are as a person, and how much you care. I love to tell people about my experiences with Lucid Dreaming, and I don't give a rats ass if they think I'm weird or if they laugh at me. Their loss! I have told all my friends, family and all co-workers, and no one has been interested, but if I do find someone who would, that would be priceless! Having a real life friend to share your goals, achievements and experiences with.

Tbh, I know people are jealous of me because of what I experience when I'm asleep, they're just afraid of showing it. Afraid of being different...

Thank god, im not the only one haha.

Last time we did talk about LDing, and got into an argument. She told me how she was going to a Church study about dreaming.

I thought "O yeah THAT is where you are going to get the most information from".
      A church bible study..

She wont believe me, she wont look it up for herself.
Apparently only someone who believes in God can tell her how to think.
      Sad..

This discussion right here, is why she rejects every informative thing i have to say.
She is seriously so closed to this. I dont even want to get into it.

Sad, but so common. Many people just don't want to think using their own head. They need some kind of "authority" to tell them what and how to think.
      It's a matter of close-mindedness.

well, i don't understand why someone would just say it's occult-related and slam their mental doors. I'm a Christian and i LOVE LDing. i mean, everybody has normal dreams, what's so different about knowing it's a dream? some people are so stupid. i can see not being interested in it, but thinking it's unhealthy or related to the occult is just stupidity... *shakes head*

well it is occult but all that means is that it is hidden to most people. the word occult has developed a lot of negative stigma, but the only difference between people who use it for neutral and positive purposes like ld'ing and people who use it to become black magicians is the intent behind it

What pisses me off even more than people who think it is bad is people who think it isnt real. Who say that I just make up everything about knowing im dreaming.
I accept that my reality is always a dream so if something changes I know I'm right.

easy way to prove the people wrong that say when you lucid dream your losing sleep. it has been scientifically proven that when we dream the our brain activity is the same as when we are awake. so realizing your dreaming is no different than regular dreaming.

ignorance towards lucid dreaming makes me RAGE!

      Not a good argument.

Brain activity during sleep is drastically different from waking brain activity, and lucid dreaming creates atypical brain frequencies that aren't found in any other state of consciousness. Also, there are those, myself included, that sometimes feel drained after an intense night of LDing, as hard as that is for some to believe.

I'll post sources later, if you want them/don't want to take my word for it.

I have to agree with Mzzkc, but I haven't had more than three lucids in a night, and that didn't make me tired at all the day after, just the opposite. But that is all in my head. It's all about attitude when you wake up, and getting a few lucids one night is definitely worth the sleep loss. I wouldn't want lucid each night, and perhaps not more than 3 dreams aswell in the middle of the week. If you go to bed a little bit earlier than usual, you won't have a problem at all.

Alot of dreaming makes me more tired, but also happier, beating the crap out of that tiredness

Wow, I'd really like to know what research document you drew your statistics from.

90% of everyone who's LDing these days? Gosh that's a lot.
