Just slept for a month.

I just had a crazy night of dreaming. I can't even remember it that well because I've been lazy lately with dreaming. But I went in to a dream in one of my dreams (it may have been with some sort of device maybe, or just a normal dream through sleeping), did tonnes and tonnes of stuff. Just live my life and everything, just like a normal dream but going for a week or so, I woke up and I said to whoever was there "WTF????" That wasn't real?? I just dreamed for a week and I'm still dreaming?
Hehe Kinda funny because I didn't even become lucid lol Even though I knew it was a dream.
Then I kept dreaming even more for the rest of the night/morning.

Awesome experience though. Really, really trippy.

I really want to have a dream like that. I once had a really long lucid that felt like it lasted hours but when I woke up, I realized I had only been asleep for a few minutes. That's as far as I've got, not nearly as awesome as a month's worth of dreaming.

Hehe I know I wanted to have one too for ages now. Finally got it.
I think it was induced by Inception. My mum was watching it and I saw that part where he goes to the chemist.
So probably was thinking about it. Maybe you could try that?

This has motivated me to improve my recall again now and get a regular sleep schedule so I can remember every detail of these sorts of anomalies.

That's just what happened in inception. I thought dreams are supposed to happen in real time. How could they not? Are the thoughts themselves sped up or something? That doesn't make much sense, if it feels the same to think in a dream as in real life.

This has been discussed before, but I think it comes down to, yes, thoughts are sped up. But also there is the theory that me and another member thought of called instant gratification. Which is basically that in dreams, we don't actually experience everything that we think we do. Like if you're walking towards a tree, for instance, you will not actually experience every step towards it, but only a couple, and then you'll be at the tree. But you remember it as though it all happened as it would IRL.

Also, think about how you sometimes go in to your mind during the day, thinking about something and you suddenly snap back to reality and think you've missed, say, 10 minutes of what was going on around you but it's only been around 30 second or something.

Time distortion is a common thing if you think about it. I can't count how many times I've been watching a movie and gone off on a trail of thoughts, then I come back to reality thinking I've missed a whole chunk of the move and rewind it to realise I've missed only a couple of seconds.

I would personally go insane if that was a reoccurring thing. that would practically double your mental lifespan if you dreamed you were In real life for a day EVERY NIGHT.

I'm jealous. That sounds like an incredible dream. I know what you mean about the "instant gratification." I experience that a lot in my dreams. I also get tons of extra dream time from false memories. While I am still in the dream, I will remember doing something that never actually happened. My memory just fills in as many false memories as I need for a complete back story. In a few seconds, I can remember years of life that never actually happened. Our memories are so fickle.

In theory you can perceive any amount of time in dreams. Because there is no consistent measure of time in our dreams the length of time comes down to our own perception. If we are activly watching the time and counting it out the dream will pass in real time.

It's like sitting in a class you hate. An hour feels like two. But when doing something fun it feels like 10 minutes. In dreams our perception of time is the unit of time. So you could do a conversion and see how long in dream time each real time second was. This will show you how much information you packed into each second.

If my math is wrong on this someone please correct me. Assuming your dream lasted 20 minutes in real life, and you perceived one week in the dream I can come up with a conversion. Each real second ocupied 504 dream seconds or 8.4 dream minutes.

Now some of this time will be filled with false memories but they still add to the dream experience. And I don't think you can tell them apart. Dreams are strange that way.

This is actually quite amazing.

And as for your OP. If you knew you were dreaming it was a lucid dream. Even if you didn't have control or do anything.

And you may have felt like you went into another dream but it was really just a new dream scene.

I hope this adds some clarity to the discussion.

I would say it different to how you said it though.
Simply, each 42 minutes in the dream equaled 5 seconds in real life.
Makes it a bit easier to imagine. Or if ya wanna round up you could say
every hour in the dream is 7 seconds in real life.

Of course this varies from person to person, but maybe we should set up a protocol for how to write this.

Also, as for your analysis of whether I was lucid or not.
I'm fairly accustomed to lucid dreaming. Dunno if you noticed but I've been here for 4 years now lol
It wasn't lucid. I meant that I realised I was dreaming after I came out of the dream in my dream. Like you know you were dreaming after you wake up every day. Except it was in a dream. I didn't realise I was in a dream at any point. Hence not lucid.

Wow! o.o That sounds so cool. I think I've kinda had that happen before, but time usually doesn't seem slowed by that much for me. Once I had a short nap but my dream felt like it went on for a few hours. Lots of the time false memories fill in some of the spaces.

Right, time doesn't feel slow at all. If time felt slow, you would do LESS in the dream than you would usually.

Well I'm glad I can do math. And yes how ever you want to look at it, it's a lot of time. That makes more sense now that you realized it was a dream after. I read that and was rather confused.

In my experience;

• Dream time can be faster than real time, or it can be the same.
• I am terrible at judging time in real life as some days feel like a week, and some hours feel like a minute, and for a period of a few months, I have actually 'lost' time, when people have apparently left rooms I was in and come back (for maybe 30 minutes to an hour) without me feeling any passage of time (that was when I was 17, and it has not happened again, that I am aware of. And it was not like I get when I am absorbed in a book and just don't notice. I was sitting in the middle of the room with my eyes open!).
• False memories occur in my dreams to fill in the missing bits. For example, I may see a bicycle in my dream, then my brain 'uploads' an information chunk into me/my dream that lets me know that the bike was stolen from me earlier and the person that stole it is still looking for it so I must quickly hide it, but I experience that like a memory, believing myself to have experienced it.
• My dream recall used to be so intense that I would wake up every morning remembering so many dreams that it was exhausting having all these memories, and doing so much every night (the exhaustion was likely psychological, but nevertheless I felt it).

The way I think of it, I can think about something in my mind and actually visualize it happening faster than it would play out in real life. You do actually skip parts of what would have to happen to get to certain points in any given imagined situation - thereby making time appear to move faster - or you can do more in less time depending on how you think about it ;-)

I also had one. Was really cool experience. After i woke up it felt like i slept for ages but then fell asleep again and it started to feel more like dream but still remember tons of stuff.
