Help\ Why do i have such strange dreams while people have normal ones

If you could help answering this, i would be so happy

I dont understand how people have such normal dreams, normal as of:

• Dreams where people they usually see are present, such as parents, familiars or known friends
• Dreams where the events take place in common places, such as houses, in their rooms, or known places.
• Dreams where the events are totally common, and happen in real life such as applying to a job, or being gifted with a cellphone
• Most importantly, their dreams are not wicked and full of dark aspects.

My dreams could a lot of times be considered nightmares, though i dont call them nightmares because they became common and no longer scare me (like when i am awake).
I usually dream of death/life situations, where i have to survive or something like that
Some summary of my last dreams could be:

• In one i was somehow gambling in a tent with a man and a woman, but the stake were body parts, i was about to have my leg ripped off because i lost, and i couldnt escape because of some technology used to not let me escape until i panicked and could break free and escape
• there is this other dream where i was at a huge park, in the distance there were very exotic animals, including lions which then chased a girl who ran into the crowd, everyone ran into the buses as they were looking for shelter, there were two buses, and in one of them the lion went in and the rest were gore scenes
• and lets see, another recent dream.... Some sort of natural catastrophe had happened and i had to fight for my life through some sort of "stages", like in videogames, well, it was damn hard and i almost died

Also, this dreams always take place in grimdark (not places that make you feel comfortable or warm, totally the opposite) scenarios . Except for the one of the Lion, the park looked extremely beautiful though it still had this abandoned part which wasnt nice at all, anyway gore and death was all over the place at the end.
Lets say i am not complaining, i am just damn curious why this happens, im totally okay with feeling such extreme experiences :P

A lot of my dreams are like yours. I've had so many "horrible" dreams and they barely scare me, so I'm not sure if they count as nightmares or not. I've died so many times in my dreams that it's actually funny. :P

I've never really thought about why there are people that dream about simple things before. I'm too lazy to find the answer though. :lol:

Ooft, this is interesting. Most people would say that nightmares relate to your everyday life and challenges you're trying to overcome. Some dream theorists would say that nightmares relate to your childhood and others that such dreams are to prepare ourselves mentally for what may happen.
Personally, i have a lot of fantasy dreams dreams aswell that could no way happen in real life. Do you watch a lot of gore movies? Did you ever have petrifying experiences when you were younger that may have started this gore-chain? (e.g. Scary movies, gore stories, one scary dream that you've been scared of ever since it's happened and possibly leading to this)

nah, i dont do anything related to petrifying experiences.... as much i like to see creepy vids and such, and then show them to ppl and see their reactions xD but that is something recent. The only part of my childhood that was horrid, was the one made in my head.
The dreams are more about grimdark experiences than "gore" itself, gore doesnt really affect me as those other situations where i am about to die and feel as real as being awaken.

Exactly, i dont know if those count as nightmares, lol, at least they scare the shit out of me while i am experiencing them xP it is so awesome when i wake up all agitated , haha.
though i have NEVER died in a dream, how is that even possible? lol, you will still be there, know you are there, but you are dead? XD I think i never die in a dream because it would break with the "reality" of the dream.

Nightmares are perfectly common. Id say dreams are the outcome of all your thoughts, therefore if you've ever watched a fantasy/horror film/tv show you now have that thought it in your head, the more of them you watch the more common they become. For instance if you have never seen a film about zombies, youve never even heard of them or imagined them up yourself, I highly doubt you would have a dream about them. Dreams of traumatic memories are the same, a thought, all it takes is something to remind you of it in the day and you are thinking about it again. If you think all day about something you will more than likely have a dream about it. To answer your question why you have strange dreams- because you have strange thoughts.

Lol for someone to answer that question you'd have to lay on a couch and talk to them for years and pay them thousands of dollars. Just enjoy the fact that your dreams aren't boring!

I would say.... i am a person who likes thinking a lot, so i just like thinking of what sort of stuff can happen, and horrible experiences really frighten me, so i think of them the most, and since i am pretty creative, it happens. There, i just figured it out XD i guess....
I still dont understand why people like things ..... lol

Most of my nightmares aren't very realistic, but of course dream logic can make anything seem real at the time. Most of the time "dying" in a dream means being shot in the head and waking up. I also have dreams though where I die and view my body from a third person view.

I'm good with dream control, but I know there are people that are far better than me. Most of my dream control is just a reflex to something "dangerous".

like all of my LDs happen when i am drowning, and i still breath, so i say "hey, this doesnt make sense... it is a dream!" hahaha
i wonder why something like that makes me realize it is a dream, but other crazed stuff doesnt xD

Well, i am bound to the reality of my dreams unless it is a LD, so i dont get any control, not even in a nightmare, what i can probably do in a nightmare is that when i panic i can break with what is going on a little to escape, or wakemyself up (that was when i was a kid, because i got soooo scared)

I get pretty strange dreams too, though not necessarily scary.

One I remember because it was just soooo ridiculous, is the one where I'm gambling in the neighbours' letterbox, while Japanese musician Hyde is sitting on MY front porch, just watching me.

I love that dream because it's just so silly.

And one of last night's dreams:
I'm with a bunch of friends (whom I don't know IRL), we're doing something of a game but it'll be filmed as well. It involves some of us being shot with a paralyzation powder gun. So my friends get hit, and I pass out simply from smelling the gas. We wake up and we all look different, as if someone performed plastic surgery on all of us and it healed real quick.

..and of course, my most beautiful/sad/strange dream yet (all-in-one!)

Spoiler for Dream:

A girl is in front of a mirror and sees herself, dress and all. But she's a ghost and only her chest and upper body are actually there. She says "..is this all they found?" (asking if this is all they found OF HER), to which a man nods, sad expression on his face.


She becomes suspicious, and her suspicion leads to her being held captive. As she's being brought back to the room with the mirror, she secretly tears a tiny bit off her dress and drops it on the ground in the hall. The captors mention something about her baby and she flips out.


After her "episode", one of the guys sits down with her and says "..it was your choice, to walk out into the corral.."


Turns out it was all in her head, and she's actually committing suicide by drowning.


I can now see her feet on the bottom of the sea, as coral crystals climb her legs quickly, up to her chest. She's now conscious and tries to grab something on the ocean floor (I think the piece of her dress she cut off, but it looks more like a note.), but the crystals are now already up to her arms. She's "frozen" in a cross-shape (much like Jesus Christ in the Bible, except there's not cross, only corals), closes her eyes and open her mouth, allowing creatures and crystals to enter her body, and kill her.

There is no such thing as a strange dream. All dreams are strange, even normal sounding dreams are weird if you dig a little deeper. Dreams can get really crazy, and everyone has the really weird dreams, they just don't always remember them, or all the details.

Hmm... I've got a feeling probably your dreams meant that you were "fighting" with something in real life.

But anyway, I've normal dreams and weird dreams and a couple of sweet dreams. And my friend was asking how do I manage to get such unusual dreams? I've dreamt of myself preparing for my own funeral, hugging a naked person in a jacuzzi, and just recently I dreamt my head was chopped off by a ghost who wants revenge, and it was later glued back on.

Asking why you have scary dreams while other people have "normal" dreams is kind of like asking why you're from Costa Rica and other people are from the US or Singapore.

Or kind of like asking why you have brown hair, and other people have red hair.

Everyone is different and we all dream about different things. Your dreams are just a part of who you are and your thoughts. They're a product of your mind at work and your personality.

Last night I dreamed about trying to buy a Pinkie Pie figurine from a store, and the night before that I dreamed about my teacher flipping out and yelling at us all in class. Then the night before that I dreamed about some guys trying to murder me on a baseball field.

What you dream about is personal to you and related to who you are and your selective and personal experiences. Something about you causes you to dream whatever you dream, and you can find that out much easier than we can. You know you better than we know you, of course~

I've had similar dreams, but i don't know i find it scarier how i find them exciting like i've had one of a zombie apocalyse and i was killing them with blood going everywhere and i had nothing but an axe, it was exhilerating but scary at the same time.

I've had a lot of ones of seriously bad affects of random unknown drugs in my dreams like people turning pale white and dropping dead on the spot or one of me being over dosed in a dream.

ive had dreams of me dying and becoming lucid from a death.

wierd ones of my inner energy exploding from out of me in desperate times.


wiiiierrrd dreams i have too man, but really the wierder the better, use your rediculously wierd dreams as a form of escapism, a way to leave a normal boring world in which we live in to experience scenarios which you may never experience in waking life good or bad. Even so if you are trying to become lucid the wierder they are the easier is may become to distinguish a dream to real life.

I have had very weird dreams too. I think it has to do with the stories I grew up with (ie. Classic stories)...and in somecases what's in the newspaper. I used to have a lot of Kidnapping & Princess dreams but I don't have them so much anymore.

I've stopped trying to figure out why most of my dreams are so insane, a long time ago. I've always had a lot of nightmares. (It's what got me into lucid dreaming, as a kid.) They are probably tied to things like anxiety, exaggerations of stressful situations, 'creepy' media (tv, movies, books, music, etc)...who knows? I also think that we tend to gauge our dreams/nightmares as 'weirder/wilder/crazier/scarier' than other people's dreams, even when it may not really be the case. You should browse through the 'Share Your Dream from Last Night in One Sentence' thread. You'll see just how common these "WTF??!!" dreams really are.

Yours are no stranger than most other people's. Believe me.

I like my dreams "normal".

I've always had very intense, strangely dark dreams also. I remember them specifically from about 7 on, but I vaguely remember some when I was younger too. I think each individual dream has to be explored in depth if you want to find real meaning in them. Even though there might be a lot of similar themes working across multiple dreams the more intricate you can be in recalling them the more interesting the puzzle gets. I used to think I dreamt in such vivid detail because that is simply how my mind operates... as in deep, intelligent, and more self-aware people have more interesting dreams while the dull majority of people dream ordinary stuff. I think that has a little bit of truth to it but 7 yr olds are hardly self-aware, so there is a lot more at work obviously.
Your dreams seem to feature a sort of "dismemberment" theme (decapitation, gambling for body parts). Mine were the same types of things. I heard that dismemberment is an almost universal initiation experience among shamans throughout the world. They experience being torn apart on a psychic level, and when they put themselves back together they often have a few extra bones or something that are responsible for their power. I believe shamans were just people that shared a very similar personality type. They are extremely sensitive to energies or spirits (moods) of all kinds and they are acutely aware and perceptive of larger scale trends or movements, or, if you know anything about Taoism, the Tao (or the Way, or the Way God/nature moves). Anyway, even though our culture doesn't give much credence to "the shaman" people definitely still possess these vulnerabilities and sensibilities naturally, and it maybe drives some people crazy but I think it's a gift.
Either way, sorry about the side track. Dismemberment tends to suggest rebirth on some level. For me it involved a period of deep, dark struggle with hellish beasts, but for a lot of people it's just a simple, defining crisis that forces you to change radically as a person. A person's nature determines a lot of those twilight (not the movie) attractions or reasons for mysteriously liking certain things and dreams are sometimes brilliant or poetic clues or signs to help get what they are all about.

OP, I'm in a similar situation. My dreams aren't always dark/creepy/gothic ect. but I really rarely have normal dreams. Actually, I've never had a fully normal dream that I can remember - for example, my most recent "normal" dream was set in a real environment (my school), with no surreal entities, except that I had no shoes and I was slowly wandering around the school looking for my shoes, digging through piles of other students' shoes, thinking I had gone insane because I couldn't find them.

Other than that and a few others, my dreams are often in completely made up locations or stages which hardly make sense, and I find myself in extremely absurd situations. The other night I was travelling between different realms in a book (each page was a realm) and each realm was really weird, it's a shame I can't remember what it was.

Everyone has different dream styles, and I think that people with similar personalities have similar dreams and nightmares.

It's simple. Crazy dreams are easier to remember. They leave more of an impression, just like witnessing an accident would. The mundane stuff just isn't worth remembering.
