      Completely disoriented upon awakening.

For the last three nights, I have been sleeping very well and very deep. Different topics of dreams vivid dreams and memorable. However I have woken a few times in the night with extreme disorientation. I have no idea where I am and I cannot grasp where I am by looking around room. I finally will recognize the room but not know what state or country it is. Then I can't remember my name or any other specifics. It is not a sense of fear it takes me maybe a full minute or so to collect my thoughts of what is going on. Anyone else every experience this?

It could be, because you woke up form deepest sleep stage. Normally it's hard to wake up when in this stage, but when something wakes you up, you are disoriented and it may take you a while to understand what's going on.

I have had this happen to me a few times, when my smoke alarm decided to do a test in the middle of the night. I woke up suddenly to a shrieking sound and had no idea what is going on, who am I or where am I. After quick search I found this explanation.
