      Subconscious awareness in non-lucid dreams?

I have been wondering about the subconscious and how aware it is in non-lucid dreams.

      What I mean by that:

in lucid dreams our conscious mind becomes aware that this is a dream, but I think even in some non-lucid dreams we get signs that indicate that some part of one's mind realizes it is a dream - it's just that it is not the part of one's mind where one's consciousness is focused.

For example, if a dream character tries to persuade one unsuccessfully that it is a dream, or if one sees a sign that says "this is a dream" but does not take the hint, or as another dreamviews member, Nerq, recently dreamed a voice saying "You need to wake up" which tells me that some part of him knew this is a dream.

Also I could swear that sometimes I get metaphorical dreams: and I am sure it is not just in the post-factum interpretation, because the pieces fit too well together to be just a coincidence. For example I had this elaborate dream about a murder at a company, and I knew in hindsight that it was all about the banning of my friend at the previous online forum I belonged to - all the pieces fit that interpretation including the murder weapon, the motive. Everything was a perfect metaphor and irony woven together into a new plot that stood for something else, but made perfect sense when interpreted. I really believe that some part of my subconscious orchestrated this dream, and it was so elaborate that it would take my conscious mind quite a while to come up with such good metaphors and irony.

So I think there are signs that some part of one's subconscious is very aware even in some non-lucid dreams. And that part is definitely not the part of our mind where our conscious identity is, that part sometimes is totally clueless while another part of the mind is aware.

I find that an intriguing possibility. What do you think?

i feel there is some degree of self awareness in dreams, and some degree of natural lucidity. that partially explains why the mantra « next time i am dreaming i will remember to recognize i am dreaming » works without a clear dreamsign sometimes. it also explains how post-hypnotic sugestions can work.

i think this is very close to an intuition, a remote feeling. we refer to it when we talk about semilucid dreams and false lucid dreams.

can we get used to that dreamy feeling ? i guess so. Dream yoga and Dzogchen are aimed to achieve this, to achieve 24 hour lucidity, the integration between waking, sleeping and dreaming states.

Check your memory, did any suprising event happpen ? does the present make sense ? visualize what you will do when lucid, and how. Reality check as reminder of your intention to lucid dream tonight. Sleep as good as you can; when going to sleep, relax and invite whatever comes with curiosity. Grab your dream journal immediately as you awake and write everything you can recall (if only when you wake up for good). Keep calm, positive and persistent, and don't forget to have fun along the way
